I am looking for people using a SiS6326, 620 or 530 video card/chipset. Development of my SiS-XFree-driver for the named devices may stall because I don't have any reliable testers at the moment. The SVGA one or the SiS one (the SiS one I found has a different prefix in the name and seems to have been built by some company, I don't have the box in front of me right now). | manually. I have the same card (8MB model) and haven't yet gotten X configured the way I want it (so I'm still using it console-only, but I have gotten even more proficient with bash :-)). I was able to get 800x600 at ~16 bit color, I think, but I want 1024x768 at 24 or 32 bpp (which I used to have with my previous ATI Rage LT Pro). Then I saw nice pink blocks when a window or menu was closed. I'm not sure if it was the card or the monitor since I was using an old monitor that I don't have any specs for. (I did read the man page and was configuring by hand, but I don't think I quite "get it" yet) -D

you have to use xf86config (NOT XF86Setup program). as far as i remmeber configuring this card, most problems i had were related to resolution and refresh rate. anyways: 1. when you run xf86config you should get to the screen where you actually choose your graphic card - IT IS on the list (the number is 628 - i remember that). 2. the graphic server for this card is XF86_SVGA. (this card does not support VGA server, so you should NOT use the default graphics server which is VGA.) 3. you MUST NOT probe this card - when you get to this option, choose NO (there will be two screens related to probing your card - in both cases choose the negative option) 4. memory size is of course 4096 Kbytes 5. as for monitor options you should use your exact figures - remember not to overclock. the setup under xf86config isnt that complicated as it seems to be. remember to follow above rules - i have the same card and it worked for me perfectly (potato 2.2r2). later you will have to work with you display modes... quite embarassing.. any more questions, feel free to ask. i hope i helped you a bit... :) lates - Original Message - From: Peter Paul Millard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Wednesday, June 06, 2001 8:20 PM Subject: SiS6326 > > Hello All > > I have the above card which fails to get started. > Storm does not have it on the web site as supported > progeny debian also said that they have had problems with all SiS cards but > will get it sorted on the next release > > Does not mean it does not work I have been trying 2.2r2 to get past this text > mode which xf86config will not work any ideas any body my monitor I have all > the vert and hoz figures. > > Many Thanks > Peter Millard > > > -- > To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > with a subject of "unsubscribe". Mine works, sort-of. when i first log in, it wont render text, and i have to switch to console, then back. when I log out, it barfs all the textures left in the ram onto the screen and i have to go console, then back, and it works.

Re: SiS6326 problem
Try different configuration programs, and if you have X 3.3.6 now, try 4.0.x. This card works for me with X 4.0.1 and 16 bit color depth. Some options in the config file are necessary to make the screen look good. Read www.xfree86.org/ And search the archive of this mailing list.
SiS6326 problem
ive got this graphics card (SIS6326) and i have a big problem with setting the resolution and size of the screen. im working with XF86Config file and im trying to put those modes, but i always get too big screen for my monitor. i dont have any virtula lines in the file.. but i just dont know how to properly set those settings in Screeen Section. the card has 4 megs of ram, monitor specs are: H-frequency 30 - 70kHz, V-frequency 50 - 110Hz. im using 1024x768 at 85Hz refresh rate unred windoze, and i would like to run that under potato as well... i used -bpp 16 option in the Xservers file (i still have xdm by the way, but its a different problem...) once when i used bpp 24 i could set the resolution and size i wanted but the right part of the screen was like scrambled or so, of green color, and duplicated image of the desktop. so i changed to bpp 16 but now i have no idea how to fix it. and one more thing. ive read somewhere that every time i change XF86Config file (placed in /etc/X11) i should copy it to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11 for the changes to take effenct. and i noticed that if i dont copy it there - i got same stuff.. is it right?? because i taked over that problem with some people and they told me that they didnt have to do it.. well enough.. If anyone similar to this problem could help me, please? i bow to the masters of linux..

Alex, Not sure of a solution, but here at work we've had the same problem with those cards (usually when using Netscape to access our intranet site), but running Windows NT! Our W98 machines don't have that problem. Haven't tried it with Debian, mainly using ATI cards there. Good luck! Aidan O'Reilly __ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages & get email alerts with Yahoo! Re: SiS6326 chip and XFree86
The SVGA server in slink does not support this chip. You can just download the SVGA server from XFree86 website, and manually link it to /usr/X11R6/bin/X. Then edit your /etc/X11/XF86Config. You will need to set the following options on: Option "sw_cursor" Option "no_bitblt" Option "no_imageblt" Option "noaccel" Good luck. Re: SiS6326 chip and XFree86
Hi I have an SiS 6326 up and running X, thanks to Carl Mummert. He down loaded the Xfree server for 3.3.3.1 XVGA16 and XVGA servers. He copied them over the 3.3.2 servers then edited the XF86Config file. We could not get the setup to run until we got that right, you likely will have to work in the dark. You can look in the mailing list archives for Carl's message regarding this. Or mail me back, I'll send you my XF86config file, and once I get my mail reconstructed from my crash of the mailer, I'll send his message to you. --David Teague: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Debian GNU/Linux: Because the support is free and cheerfully given, not to mention almost _always_ correct and useful. I downloaded it from SuSE at late October (It was dated Oct 5 or so) from SuSE, but it looks to be removed, so I think it must be already added on XFree distro. BTW, the 6326 support is not complete, all hardware functions just give image corruption, but it is better than nothing, and I'm using it on my PII-266 with 16bpp and works fine enough.
Re: SiS6326 chip and XFree86
I got one working a little while ago. Here's how: You have to go to xfree86.org and download the new XF_SVGA server (latest version). Put this somewhere, and make it mode 755. (You have to untar it, etc... ; put the actual X server somewhere) Now, edit /etc/X11/Xserver and change the first line to match the path and filename of the new server. You have mo make an XF86Config file. Use the text-mode xf86config program (note the case) to do so. At this point, it will start X but things may be very ugly. If they are, look in the README.SiS file on the xfree86.org site, and add all of the 'debugging' options listed there into your XF86Config file. At this point, everything should be pretty. If you like, you can try commenting out the debugging options, one at a time (with a # at the front of the line), until you see exactly which options you need. I believe that I had to turn on the 'no_bitblt' and 'sw_cursor' options; you may get diffreent results. This worked fine for me a woeek or two ago; hope it helps. If you have difficulty, mail me privately and I'll send you my (working) XF86Config file. Carl
