Ok.
It doesn't matter which account to log in first.
Skype on my account doesn't recognize microphone for some reason. Other

Skype also use Pulse audio and from ver. 4.3, skype only works with

Bret, just note that skype 4 won't work properly with pidgin-skype for

Glad it helped.

Thank you for that URL.

I was not previously aware of the web page existence.

Neither was I aware of Debian packages being available for Skype,
after the ones for Skype v2.2 (Beta), which is what I have on Debian
6.

I have also Linphone and Ekiga installed on Debian 6, but Skype 2.2,
is the only videocalling software that I could get working.

And, with my Skype 2.2, I, on my Debian 6 installation, have been able
to successfully communicate with other people running Skype on both MS
Windows and Linux.

https://wiki.debian.org/skype may help. Skype 4.2.0.13 works for me
on 64 bit debian wheezy using alsa and libpulse as described in the wiki.

Here's another clue - Please post your reply below quoted text (bottom

Is there a driver needed for the microphone? Is said driver missing?

Ok, I had almost given up on this but now little update.

As i could not make skype's microphone working on debian wheezy 64 bit,
I have been using linux mint 17 for skype (4.2, everything works fine
there).

I was just trying to use skype (Now ver. 4.3) on debian once again but
this time from my wife's debian user account.

Surprisingly, microphone works just fine from her account
i checked skype setting, pulse audio setting, looks everything is
identical to my own account...

I just don't have no clue whatsoever what is the cause of this problem...

Any thoughts, anyone?

M.W.C.

I missed the start of this thread, but I have Skype working just fine on
Debian Wheezy 64 bit. I am using ALSA, not pulseaudio or anything, and I
have Skype installed inside a 32-bit chroot (using schroot) so I don't
know if for your purposes that counts or not.

Just install kernel-doc- and you will have the documentation
in /usr/share/doc/kernel-doc-/Documentation.

Herbert really does make some good packages :-).

you could use modconf. Install modconf if not installed and type:

#modconf

Then you can search for the needed modules and install them with this tool.

If this won't help you: You could download the kernel sources. This is not
a very good idea if you don't plan to compile a kernel cause kernel sources
have more then 20 MB. But in the sourcetree of kernel sources there is a
directory named Documentation. On this place are all docs for kernel and
his modules.

If you tell me which sound cards you have i could look into my kernel
sources to find out which modules you need to install.

Thanks. That worked. Now I will try this tool at home and see if I can get
sound on that machine.

Sound revisited

2001-09-05 Thread Brian Schramm
OK, I know that this cannot be this hard. I have two machines that are
running Linux and I cannot get sound to work on ether of them. The one is a
Dell optiplex gx110 running unstable with kernel 2.4.7 The sound moduales do
not load at all. Is there a place I can go to look for info on how to get
this to work? I tryed looking up under the archives in the mailing list but
I could not find anything.

Thanks.
