Toner level checking
Hi. I bought a new laser printer, the Samsung ML-1915. I managed to make it work under Debian: see http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=16t=57364 , without installing Samsung Linux software, as it is discouraged from: see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=341621 The disadvantage is that now I have no way to check ink toner level before it is almost out. The command `escputil -i -r /dev/usb/lp0', that used to work with my old Epson inkjet, doesn't work now. Can anyone suggest a proper tool to do so, working with Samsung? Can anyone suggest a proper tool to do so, working with Samsung? Samsung has another driver for that (Smart Panel), not sure if it is available for your printer model. Tangential to the OP's question, this is another huge advantage of inexpensive network (workgroup) lasers over their direct connect siblings. All such information is available in the printer's web interface via any browser, as well as most/all parameters that can be modified. -- Stan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-user-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. If the printing is light in some areas and has failures, the toner is low and needs replacing. First thing to do when the prints get grey etc. is to shake the toner cartridge. Normally this enables you to print several hundred more pages. Groetjes uit Arft, Dirk -- D.
