Issue: Slack no longer shows tray icon
Putting it here in case someone needs it. Issue: Slack no longer shows tray icon Background: I user Slack and follow the usual workaround in order to install the deb package: - download libindicator3-7 - download libappindicator3-1 - install slack-desktop Problem: Started maybe a month or so ago - the tray icon doesn't show anymore. The app installs but no tray icon Solution: use libayatana-appindicator3-1 instead of libappindicator3-1 by unpacking the slack deb file. There's a script on github that does this exactly.

[...] Assuming Gnome: IIRC, update-manager has been removed from testing, and I don't think it is installed by default in Wheezy (stable). It has been superseded by another graphical update manager: gnome-packagekit. This new update manager (part of upstream Gnome) also has an icon in the 'tray', but looks different, also it doesn't pop up at the same frequency as the old one, there might be some delay. Regards, Steven Stephen - Thanks. I am running sid. Gnome 3.4.2 Is there any icon for that? There should be, I run testing, the migration from Gnome 3.4 to 3.8 is happening now. But you should have a look at Software Settings in the system tools, make sure it checks for updates. Mine is set for Daily and Automatically install is set at nothing. The icon pops up from time to time, but it's not orange as with update-manager, it's gray. Otherwise they are pretty similar in shape.
