Trouble with dselect.

2000-01-16 Thread Jussi Mattila

My aim was to build a custom kernel, so I installed the kernel-source
package for 2.0.38 kernel version. I propably should have also installed
the headers package as well, but I did not notice it since it is located
in the base section, not the development.
It was after this that the problems occured: dselect refuses to install
or remove the kernel source packages. Here are the error messages that I
got last time:

installation script returned error exit status 139

unpacking kernel-source...

dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/kernel-source-2.0.38_2.0.38-0_all.deb (--unpack)

subprocess dpkg-dep --fsys -tarfile killed by signa (Segmentation fault)

Errors where encountered while processing: /var/... (the same file as
above) ... _all.deb

E:Subprocess returned an error code (1)

( some text like: fix the errors and install later)

Press enter to continue

inst script returned error exit status 100

The system seems to be just okay otherwise. dselect even installs other
packages than the source or the header packages.
Please, help me. I am xtremely grateful for all the assistance I can get
for fixing this thing (=getting the package installation going again.)

Trouble with dselect: Hangs

1999-10-04 Thread Christian Dysthe
Hi,

I am running potato and have upgraded my system using dselect/apt
without problems for a long time. Now I have problems though:

dselect downloads the selected packages, the message
Fetched kB in XXmXXs (B/s) shows up and then it hangs. Nothing
happens, no error message even. It seems like the command to start the
unpacking and installing aren't given or something.

I then have to terminate dselect and manually install the packages
using: dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/*.deb

This is the ONLY way I am able to upgrade now.

What might be wrong, and how can get dselect to function normally
again?

TIA

Trouble with dselect

1997-11-12 Thread Jim Kennedy
The dselect program is having trouble seeing the packages for
installation; I put them in a directory named install on the c drive,
and also copied the packages file into the same directory. Only 20 or
so packages come up in the screen for selection. How can i get dselect
to see all the packages that are there?

Well, the packages file is constructed for an archive directory structure
that you have not duplicated. If you have all of the .deb files in one
directory, and you wish to install them all, you can do this with
something like:

dpkg -iR /pathtopackages/*.deb

(It may work without the *.deb, but I have never actually tried it this
way, so you may need to experiment with the proper command line.)

Luck,

Trouble with dselect (packages ignored)

1997-02-23 Thread Kevin McEnhill
Howdy,

I have had two problems with dselect v.1.4.8 for a couple of months now and
I am at my wits end.

1) After I upgraded to 1.2, I have had a problem with packages that I select and
dselect silently ignores them. The three files that I have found are
'menu', 'macutils', 'gv-3d'. The last one, gv-3d, didn't work but gv did.
Is this a problem with my database or is this a problem with the server
(ftp.debian.org)?

2) After I have selected the packages that I want and I have downloaded
them, dselect looks for old/corrupt files. In that list, I find two
packages (actually, one package from different releases) that I had tried
to install but later purged them. Later, when the packages are actually
being installed, I see them again with the message Skipping previously
deselected package: gnuchess-book. After the installation, it deletes
installed package files, but it skips the two gnuchess-book packages. The
two files are in /frozen/stuff I don't remember and
/Debian-1.2-fixed/stuff I don't remember. Can I just delete them manually
without running either dselect or dpkg, or do I have to figure out how to
get rid of them with either program?

Thanks for listening.
