Run pppconfig as root and configure your ppp connection.  Then use pon to
bring up the connection and poff to close it down.  If you must have a GUI
program use gpppon to start and stop ppp.

Why do they don't work?

I've just installed potato 2.2r2 and flooded this list with questions and 
problems.
Now, I'm trying to use "Gnome dialup utility" and it just doesn't work as I 
noticed many other  ppp programs under X.
Why does it happen? It's my fault or there's something wrong, uncomplete with 
the programs given in the official distro?
