I have an ATAPI Zip I'm pretty happy with... no messing with anything to
get it working... latest kernels even know it's a Zip!

It works fine for me. You have to include SCSI support in the kernel
(even if it's ATAPI parpot ZIP). The following is what I have in 2.2.14:

CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDESCSI=y
CONFIG_SCSI=y
CONFIG_SCSI_IMM=m
CONFIG_SCSI_IZIP_EPP16=y

...but fast enough. After configuring my printer port to use EPP, I
get 400KB/s under both Windows and Linux, reading and writing. Without
EPP I get 80KB/s or so reading, twice that writing---parallel port
weren't really meant for fast reading. This might be what Konrad
refers to as dead slow, but as you see it's all just a matter of
configuration.

This is an "old style" (ppa driver) 100MB parallel zip drive on a
Pentium Pro 200.

If you don't plan to carry your zip drive around, I would recommend
the ATAPI version. It doesn't need any special drivers (in Windows 95
and Linux, that is), is more than twice as fast (about 1MB/s for the
100MB version), and cheaper, too.

My 100MB Zip used to have 100kb/s IIRC, but it has a hardware defect
since a couple of days so I am not sure.

For all intents and purposes they just work - you just need to make sure
you have the right driver loaded. Since it's a recent device it'll
probably be the imm driver - it's listed as a SCSI driver.

You should install the mtools package which provides the mzip command
that can be used to change protection mode and eject disk on Zip/Jaz
drive.

Actually, you don't need all those admin/editord/x11 etc. directories,
just

ZIP/

   main/
Packages.gz
*.deb
   contrib/
Packages.gz
*.deb
   non-free/
Packages.gz
*.deb
*Make sure you have all those Pakages.gz files*

Hope this helps.

I think I figured it out. I have been downloading the packages stright to
my HD and then copying them to my ZIP drive (on another comp) then I take
the ZIP drive and use it to run the packages, I think that I just haven't
copied those packages yet. What I did was put the packages file in the root

says it's unable to locate module dependencies for it. i ran depmod on
