Whatever the case this is a PDSMi-based server working with a stock Etch kernel. http://bitfolk.com/~andy/tmp/montelena.html I have no reason to believe it wouldn't also work with Sarge, as long as you used a kernel that supported ICH7. What problems are you seeing? Cheers, Andy -- http://bitfolk.com/ -- No-nonsense VPS hosting Encrypted mail welcome - keyid 0x604DE5DB signature.asc Description: Digital signature

I am as I type completing an install of Etch on a PDSMi-based Supermicro server 8 time zones away from me. I did it as a debootstrap from a gentoo live cd remastered to work over serial console (no network boot server there). The ahci drver in Etch's standard kernel supports the ICH7 SATA controller. This is because the stable version of Debian's shipped kernel does not support the Intel ICH7 SATA controller present on these boards. If you can build your own kernel while installing some other way (e.g. I do this sometimes by getting remote hands to boot from a gentoo live cd with output redirected to serial console, then I debootstrap and build my own kernel to boot into), or if you're going to use etch, then you should be fine. I have ordered 2 of these servers in the last week but they haven't arrived yet. I will run etch on them. I have had the exact same issue with ICH6 on other supermicro motherboards. debian in combination with Supermicro PDSMi+
We are a small company and are currently using debian on all of our servers. We ordered two new servers at some hosting company, but they claim Debian does not support the motherboard of the new servers. It is a Supermicro PDSMi+ motherboard. We find this very strange, since we cannot find anyone who has had troubles using Debian in combination with a Supermicro PDSMi+. Does anybody has any experience with this motherboard? Thanks, Max
