tcpdump -i any udp port 53

will do the same with a small difference - tcpdump does not provide your
DNS request data to those 'Moniker Privacy Services' guys.

I saw this thread and thought I would throw this in.

When you want to check your VPN is working correctly, this tool comes in
handy...

https://www.dnsleaktest.com/

It checks to see if your DNS traffic is leaked to your ISP or if it goes
through your VPN.

Yes, indeed:
push "redirect-gateway def1"

t turns out I needed to adjust my firewall settings. After much
fiddling, openvpn now works.

Thanks for your help

According to this:
https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/documentation/howto.html#redirect1
did you _push_ this toward the client?

Thanks for that, Buzzy.

I think you meant "def1".

I uncommented that line in my server.conf, and it certainly made a
difference! I now cant'see anything through the tunnel :( I guess that
counts as progress!, and I now need to examine my firewall rules.

Thanks again.

Have a look @ "redirect-gateway defl1"

internet traffic does not traverse openvpn server

2014-07-12 Thread Tony van der Hoff
Hi,

I've set up an openvpn server and client on two machines running Wheezy,
generally in line with this howto:
https://wiki.debian.org/openvpn%20for%20server%20and%20client

I can ping the server at 10.8.0.1, but according to whatismyip.com,
using iceweasel, my local (dynamic) ip is still being shown. Clearly
I'm missing something; can anyone tell me what magic incantation is
necessary for all internet traffif from my local client to go over the VPN?

My objective, FWIW, is for me to appear located in UK (where my openvpn
server is) rather than France (where I am at present).

Cheers, Tony
