Yes. 2.2r5 is being worked on.

The prepackaged kernels available for stable are 2.0.38, 2.2.19pre17 and
2.2.19; the boot floppies use a 2.2.x one.

Updates to use a 2.4.x kernel with a potato install can be found at
http://www.fs.tum.de/~bunk/kernel-24.html .
