I had a similar problem; 3com 3C595-TX, AH-2940uw, Seagate drives.
Everything worked fine in DOS, Win95, and WinNT, but hamm, slink, potato,
and redhat choked.

I eventually went back and double-checked all my jumper settings (IDs,
termination, etc) on the drives/controller; found several things wrong (it
was a hand-me-down computer and it worked in Windows, so I assumed the
hardware settings were all correct; boy, was I wrong). So I fixed all the
jumper settings, and then tried again; still didn't work. So I removed
three of my four drives (identical 2GB drives), and tried, and it worked. I
put the other three drives back in, and it still worked. Huh, go figure. I
haven't had any trouble since.

I had the same problem with one of our systems here. I had to remove the SCSI
card
(only using it for the scanner right now) and compile a kernel without all the
extra
stuff I don't need. I do know that it'll boot fine with the boot disks from
RedHat and
SUSE. Check http://www.debian.org/fom/193.html for a link to disks that are
supposed
to work.

new user unable to install Slink

1999-03-13 Thread Olivier Ripoll
Hi everybody,

I am trying to install slink for CDs (I' ve just burned them).
During the boot process, I got the following (after indentification of
cd and hard drive)

(scsi0) found at PCI 11/0
(scsi0) Wide channel, SCSI ID=7, 16/255 SCBs
(scsi0) Downloading sequencer code ... 419 instructions downloaded

and the computer got frozen

My computer is a Dell OptiPlex GXa :
Pentium II 300Mhz
96 Mb ram
scsi adapter : Adaptec AHA-2940 (SCSI ID =7)
network card : com fast etherlink XL PCI adapter 3c905
cd-rom : don't know
no pcmia

I hope someone can help me ...

Sincerely,

Olivier Ripoll.
