We just discussed this topic here.

For anything PII-300+, I'd suggest Galeon, Mozilla, or Konqueror. Not
snappy, but damned good browsers.

For Pentium class and lower, I use text-mode browsers (w3m in screen in
an rxvt) as my primary browser, dillo for quick graphical stuff, and if
I need heavy lifting, Galeon.

Netscape 3.x browsers might also be useful, though they're buggy.
Netscape 4.x browsers are buggier'n shit and suck.

Opera leaves me cold, though some people like it.

opera or other fast browser

2003-01-15 Thread Florian Sukup
Hi,

I'm installing Debian on an old machine. Therefore, I need a fast browser.

So, I thought Opera could be a good idea. But I can't find a package
including it (at least not bin/opera).

Is there a debian package for it?

Or are there other fast browsers with flash/java support which I should
try?

Thanks for info.

Florian.

Hi,

Just download the Linux version from here :

http://www.opera.com/download/index.dml?platform=linuxsession=

Just select the option deb and QT Static. I have it installed on my Debian
3.0 PowerPC and it works a treat. I bought a licence to (upgrade infact)
for $15.

Very easy to install to, just type install.sh in the opera directory once
unpacked.

Regards,

Kevin
