ppp help needed

well i configure my connection by pppconfig  name the entry after i gave all the input in it ..
then i use pon to dail like this 
#pon connection name 
but it doesnt seems to work 
but when i enter 
# pon
it gives out phone tone but still dont dail ... i think it use the provider file ...
i want to know does it use any switches ? this command pon ? to make it pick my connection file ?

There are no switches, just pon ISP/Connection name
try enabling debug for the ISP in pppconfig and then after issuing the pon
ISP run plog to see whats happening, if you cant work it out from that
try posting the results of the plog and ISP file someone may be able to
help ya out with that information.

this stuff goes on for about 5 pages within less than a second. it slows down
the connection drastically. if anyone has any idea at all what it could be could
you please tell me. the debug option has been turned off but no effect. i
