rbldnsd setup

2005-07-28 Thread Richard Cunningham
Okay, I did the apt-get install rbldnsd. The documentation on setting it
up is sparse.

I want to run it stand-alone, without a dns server. Is there a
step-by-step tutorial on how to do this?

you do NOT need to worry about dns to run rbldns

Thanks, but that refers to rbldns which is not the same as rbldnsd.

I was asking about rbldnsd, not rbldns -- they're two different applicatons.

Actually, I found what you were refering to just now, but it's where I
started. I have the block list part figured out, but not how to make it
start on Debian.

Thanks

Okay, I went back and read. It takes me to square one, where I found out
about rbldnsd in the first place. I understood all of it. The part I'm
having a problem with is how to make it start up on Debian, on bootup.

Thanks

I run rbldnsd, although not on debian. Can you explain exactly what
you're trying to do?

You need some way to direct the queries at your rbldnsd. Your box
probably already is pointed at a normal resolver, so in that
resolver's config you may need to make a forward zone.

Or if you are going to have the DNSBL in its own domain then have
you registered that domain's nameservers to point at your rbldnsd
servers?
