ok. Udało mi się póki co zrobić coś takiego:
# rm -f ~/.Xauthority
# startx

zawartość ~/.Xclients:
#!/bin/sh
startkde

to samo w .xinitrc (pewnie wystarczy jeden z nich).


Pozostaje czekać na poprawione pakiety?
Btw, gdzie można znależć jakiś przystępny opis Xautoryzacji?

Oto co ja zrobiłem, żeby normalnie pracować:
1.  w /etc/X11/default-display-manager zamieniłem /usr/bin/kdm na 
/usr/bin/X11/xdm 
bo xdm niezły również jest :)
2.  w /etc/X11/xdm dodałem wpis:
DisplayManager*authName=MIT_MAGIC_COOKIE-1
Nie wnikałem (brak czasu) w przyczynę błędu (jest jakiś problem z autoryzacją) 
- - zmieniłem sposób autoryzacji.
