Acho mais provável que seja um problema no X. Dê uma olhada no
/var/log//XFree86.0.log se tem alguma mensagem de erro. Que placa de
vídeo é? Informando isso, pode ser que mais alguém tenha alguma
experiência com esse problema nesse hardware.

 - woody baixado do projeto debian-br
 - kde 2.2.2
 - kernel 2.4.18

meu mouse trava completamente (estando no X), frequentemente
tanto estando como root como quando estou como user
recompilei o kernel ontem, e instalei um winmodem pctel - pci

(se não me engano, um caso em que ocorre o 'mousecrash' é: 
se estou no kde e dou ctrl+alt+f1 e depois dou ctrl_alt+f7)

outro caso: quando dou logout- ao exibir o xdm, já fiquei sem mouse de novo :-(

o que pode ser? algo relacionado a compilação do kernel?
