On what are you basing this assumption? While I agree that Debian isn't
especially visible in any way media wise I don't see the relevance of planet
when it comes to our users. I have no numbers to prove that but I doubt that a
lot of users are reading planet (why should they..).

As for the rest of your text I have to say (and I also do not intend to start
a flame): aren't there more important problems in Debian than our planet?!

Yes you are right. Let's forget about that part since I
didn't want to start a discussion about this and I doubt
this is actually a problem within Debian.

Yes, if I read such "public statements" in a Debian vote I always ask
myself "WTF is interested in this?".

True and I never said anything conflictive with that just

Ideally, the constitution should be changed to void all votes issued in
public, and make the sender of such votes lose his vote right for that
vote.

But then the question is, how serious is the effect of such
manipulations, as most such errors are probably mostly due to plain
errors on the voters part. Also, going over much in the direction of
sanctionning such errors may itself cause possible exploits, by
malicious setting of the reply-to in the ballot for example.

Please forward to the list, as i am being censored and cannot post
myself without a DD having judged the post as non-controversial or
whatever.

I didn't state that it manipulates *you* but asking for the
purpose. Manipulation (if there are people who let themselve
manipulate by this) was the only purpose I could think of.

The problem with this is that people search a new sponsor

If that would be the case it would be really a shame for the
Debian project since the process doesnt really influences
DAM work does it? Think about the opposite, maybe an
applicant gets processed faster because people saw that he
