Bug#68199: saml - intent to adopt

2001-03-24 Thread Ian Zimmerman

Adrian You need a package ready when you want to do packaging in
Adrian Debian. But you can: - find a sponsor by asking for
Adrian sponsorship at debian-mentors or [1]. - present the package
Adrian to your AM without having a sponsor

Not what I meant - I meant the new requirement that somebody vouches
for me to even join NM. Since I hate begging, I do need to have a
sponsored package beforehand. Maybe here can be seen one of the side
effects of that decision.

Adrian You stated more than two months ago that you want to adopt
Adrian saml. When you say yourself that you aren't working on it and
Adrian that you won't work on it in the near future then please
Adrian retitle the bug back from ITA to O to give other people
Adrian that might be more interested in adopting this package the
Adrian chance to adopt it.

OK, I will decide what do to about this within a few days. I did that
ITA partly because I do use this package and it was in acute danger of
being removed (as you know, it was even made an example of on devel,
by yourself?)

Bug#90949: ITP: ladspa-sdk -- Linux Audio Developer's Simple Plugin API (LADSPA) SDK

LADSPA is a standard for plugins for processing audio data.

I wish to package ladspa-sdk, into two packages

and ladspa-sdk contains all the sample LADSPA plugins,
LADSPA hosts, and documentation, so that a package which requires
ladspa.h can Build-Depends: ladspa-sdk-dev

Bug#90959: ITP: ocaml-tools

2001-03-24 Thread Ralf Treinen
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

I intend to build a package ocaml-tools that unites several
small tools for programmers working with the ocaml language.
This proposal grew out of a discussion on the debian-ocaml-maint
mailing list.

For a start, the package will contain
- tuareg: an alternative emacs mode for editing ocaml code
  http://www-rocq.inria.fr/~acohen/tuareg/
  GPL
- OcamlMakefile : a makefile template for ocaml projects
  http://miss.wu-wien.ac.at/~mottl/home/ocaml_sources.html#toc4
  LGPL
- configure.in and Makefile.in for ocaml programs
  http://www.lri.fr/~filliatr/software.en.html
  LGPL

Furthermore I'd like to add, provided the authors issues an acceptable
licence (for the moment there is no licence):
- ocamldot: generates dependency graphs for ocaml programs
  http://www.research.att.com/~trevor/ocamldot/
This would be compiled as ocaml bytecode such that the package is
  architecture-independent.

-Ralf.

Bug#81614: Update, what the delay is.

2001-03-24 Thread Adrian Bunk
On Sat, 24 Feb 2001, Josh Huber wrote:

In case anyone is wondering where the Kimberlite package is, the cause
for its delay is the inclusion of the raw command in util-linux.
Debian's kernel package (v2.2) was never patched with rawio support,
but now that libc6 is being built with 2.4 kernel headers the raw
command can be built in util-linux.

This of course still requires that you use a patched 2.2 kernel or a
2.4 kernel, but it makes the userland issues much easier to deal
with. (i.e. no installing non-stock debian versions of util-linux,
 etc.)

it will be uploaded as soon as util-linux has the raw command.

util-linux_2.11b-1 (waiting in incoming) includes the raw command.

=46rom the readme:
Scanssh scans the given addresses and networks for running SSH
servers. It will query their version number and displays the results
in a list.

This program was originally written under OpenBSD as a personal
measurement tool. However, besides gathering statistics, it's also
useful for other purposes such as ensuring that all machines on your
network run the latest SSH versions, etc...

License: BSD
URL: http://www.monkey.org/~provos/scanssh/

[Cc'ed to debian-devel because of earlier discussion and because of
questions I pose below.]

NOTES:

- A test version of the package is available at
http://people.debian.org/~rweber/prelim/. Please note that it is a TEST
package and the version will not be incremented for the final release.
(The only non-potato box I have is a chroot, so this is barely tested
  yet.)

- Upstream agreed with me that the semantics of the -E option (whether to
exit if the exclude file is not specified/found) should change, and
supplied me a patch from the CVS. I want to avoid changing this option
between releases, but this makes my package inconsistent with the
published version. It *is* documented as the new usage, but does anyone
think that this is a particularly bad idea?

- License is BSD, except that it diffs with the license in
  /usr/share/common-licenses/BSD:

  C U T H E R E

diff bsd /usr/share/common-licenses/BSD=20

I must assume this is ok, but since it does differ, do I need to go to
debian-legal to be sure? I don't need to include the full license, do I?

Hi,

I intend to package wmacpi, which is a WindowMaker dockable battery status
monitor for ACPI systems (so the package will be i386 and ia64 only for
the first time). ATM this program only works with one specific kernel
version as it queries the ever-changing /proc interface directly, but as
I'm occasionally doing work on ACPI4Linux it should be possible to work
out an abstraction there.

The license is GPL2, the package can be downloaded from
http://www.ne.jp/asahi/linux/timecop/

I intent to package w3m-el, which is emacs lisp browser using
w3m as HTML rendering engine. This was included in w3m package,
but w3m-el is being developing by separate group than w3m, so
I'd like to make separate package w3m and w3m-el.

I intent to package migemo, which is new interface to search Japanese
incrementaly. Usually, to search Japanese text, user should convert
Kana to Kanji first. But, migemo doesn't require such conversion.
Migemo make it possible to search Japanese words with Romaji instantly.

It also provides Lingua::Romkan, which is used to generate Romaji Kana
conversion table for migemo in build time. I also package it as
liblingua-romkan-perl

I have packaged yaclc, Yet Another Changelog Check, and am doing
final debugging with the aid of my sponsor, Adrian Bunk, before
uploading.

yaclc queries the bug tracking system to see whether the bugs that
are closed in a .changes file belong to the same package as the
changelog.

Xalf (now part of GNOME) is a utility which provides feedback
when starting X applications. It prevents the common problem of
users attempting to run a program multiple times by giving the
user indication that the program is loading. This is especially
useful for large programs such as Mozilla.

Xalf is released under the terms of the GNU GPL.

Bug#90978: ITP: pgn-extract -- chess game extractor

2001-03-24 Thread Peter van Rossum
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

I intend to package `extract'. This is a program to extract selected
games from a collection of chess games in PGN format. There are several
ways to specify the criteria on which to extract: textual move sequences,
the position reached after a sequence of moves, information in the tag
fields, and material balance in the ending.

I believe `extract' is better called `pgn-extract'; in my opinion,
the name `extract' is much too general for this program. It would also
surprise me very much if the name `extract' doesn't conflict with
anything else. (*)

(Pgn-)Extract is written by David Barnes [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and is released under the GPL. It is available from
http://www.cs.ukc.ac.uk/people/staff/djb/

Peter van Rossum

(*) I recall there exists a list of all possible files installed by
Debian-packages, but I don't know where. Can anyone tell me where to
look for it?
