2001-11-23 Thread Harry Henry Gebel
Package: wnpp

The unixODBC Project goals are to develop and promote unixODBC to be the

Hi,

(for those people who are inpatient).

Ok. The package has a script, checkroot, to see if the chroot
contents differ from a reference. It won't, as sbuild is used
here, unless the user installs a package manually.

It's very cool having permanent chroots if you have the space.
You really have a totally separate install -- maybe stable
where you run unstable in base. You can go into it and use
it as you would a normal install.

But I agree that sbuild and pbuilder take a different approach.

I'll plug away. I expect to upload it in a couple days and fix
any chroot building quirks later.

Bug#120691: RFP: crystal -- Free and portable 3d game development kit.

2001-11-23 Thread Christian BAYLE
Hi Daniel

Just a note: those packages are really badly done; if someone does
base a Debian package on them, they'll want to do some serious cleanup
(the dependencies are screwed up, they dump user binaries in /usr/lib,
crystalspace is missing a shlibs file, menufiles are messed up...) -- but on
the other hand, the author seems to have done the hard work of getting
Crystal to install nicely into a packagable format.

  Daniel

The things you call user binaries are considered by the developpers as
demo software, that's
why I put all this in /usr/lib/crystalspace/bin.

The shared libs files are specifics to crystalspace loaders, so I did
the same that I found in
apache package, and put this in /usr/lib/crystalspace/lib

The way that is used by developers tu use the libs is to set CRYSTAL var
to /usr/lib/crystalspace/
And then every things allow then to use the lib

If you want to patch, modify, upload the package, you can do it

I'm also ready to take in account your remarks, advices, flames,
congratulations,...

I uploaded a new version that I think better this morning

I added an advice on the page that you could find on crystalspace home
page

Here is what Christian tells about its limitations:

Dependencies are maybe not fully complete yet.
Gnome menu only contains Blocks application.

 There are three packages:

 doc containing html documentation.
dev containing headers and lib files.
 main package.

There are new data and demos package still at
http://crystalspace.free.fr/

I just want to RTFM a little bit more before entering the NM process

  Christian

btw, I meant this as a strictly factual statement.

The things you call user binaries are considered by the developpers as
 demo software, that's
why I put all this in /usr/lib/crystalspace/bin.

Yes, but Debian policy requires that binaries the user would want to
run go in /usr/bin or /usr/games (probably /usr/games in this case)

  eg, allegro-demo does this.

The shared libs files are specifics to crystalspace loaders, so I did
the same that I found in

Hmm, the problem was that programs linked against the crystalspace
library don't get a dependency on crystalspace. If you're linking
statically but using dynamic modules, you need to add dependencies
manually; right now I can install crystalspace-demos without
crystalspace, and everything will break.

The menu files should also use ?(crystalspace-demos) instead
of ?(crystalspace), I think.

The way that is used by developers tu use the libs is to set CRYSTAL var
 to /usr/lib/crystalspace/
And then every things allow then to use the lib

  Ugh.

I have to put this up for adoption because I don't own a Nokia GSM

Gnokii has been easy to maintain, and has two (serious) bugs in the BTS
which are both buildfailures: on m68k and arm.

Description:
KSEG allows you to interactively create a geometrical construction, such as a
triangle with its circumcenter. As you drag vertices of the
triangle, you see the circumcenter moving in real time. KSEG was
 inspired by the Geometer's Sketchpad.

Severity: wishlist

This package saves the OSS mixer settings into a file when the
machine is shut down, and restores them from the file when it is
restarted. It can optionally restore from a file of fixed settings
in /etc/default/oss-preserve if it exists.

The package has been in use for several months by users of HP OmniBook
laptops. It was developed by me and is licensed under the GPL. The
package is available on my web server at

http://www.swiss.ai.mit.edu/projects/omnibook/packages.php

This library is NetBSD's implementation of a readline-like library,
with slightly different syntax and functionality, but for a similar
purpose.

The license is the BSD license, with the advertising clause.

Maintaining the package is as easy as rolling a new tarball from CVS
every once in a while, and porting the Debian-specific patches to the
new snapshot. It changes quite rarely, and there isn't much work with
it.

* License : GPL
Description : Time Management and Recording program

Taglog is designed for anyone who spends most of their day sitting
at a computer, working on various projects. You can make notes
about what you do, as you go along, associating them with the
projects you work on. At the end of the week you can produce a
report of how your time was spent, broken down by project for
booking purposes. You can view previous entries, by date, or by
project. You can enter the actions you intend to take, associate
them with a project, and mark them as active, or complete.

The time recording is similar to Titrax or GTimer, but with added
diary to todo lists.

   * New maintainer (closes: #111032).
   * Reintroducing package to unstable because five packages build-depend on
it. When those packages migrate to a different documentation system,
 yodl may safely be removed.
 .
   * Unexport NAME in debian/rules; the Hurd sets it, which confuses stepmake
 (closes: #111019, #111085).
   * ' generates \' rather than \' for groff -man output, as \' is an acute
accent, not an apostrophe (thanks, Matt Kraai; closes: #51258).
   * Recommend python rather than python1.5. yodl seems to work fine with
newer versions of python, and python1.5 wouldn't have worked because it
 doesn't provide /usr/bin/python.
   * Add build-dependencies.
   * Policy version 3.2.1.

  Package name: sms
  Version : 1.8.9g
Upstream Author : Miko=B3aj Rydzewski [EMAIL PROTECTED]
  URL : http://ceti.pl/~miki/komputery/sms.html (in Polish)
  License : GPL
Description : A program for sending SMs via Polish GSM operators

This is a very useful program, which allows to easily send SMs via
three most popular Polish GSM operators (Era, Plus and Idea).

I'm not sure what package name to choose. It's named sms upstream, but I =
don't think
that's a good name for a program specific to one country.

Bug#120691: [viral@debian.org: RFP: crystal -- Free and portable 3d game development kit.]

2001-11-23 Thread Christian BAYLE
Hi Viral

I discussed some issues with Daniel Burrows,
but I'have got some problems to know all needed libs
either for Build and Running and wonder if there are some fair tools in
dh_*

I will move demo binaries in /usr/games as suggested

I discussed some issues with a developper and I think I should create
/usr/include/crystalspace and keep
/usr/lib/crystalspace/lib

There is a config script that should allow to deal with this.

I think shlibs is not needed since .so generated are plugins for
crystalspace engine
like .so in apache.

I ran bts retitle 120691 ITP: crystal
as suggested by a debian devel to transform RFP in ITP

You don't need a 3d board to try the demos since the soft renderer don't
need this.
I have to deal with hardware based renderer, and should probably
separate this from the rest
to have dependencies well done and not required if you run only soft
rendering

Suggestions and advices are welcome

Christian

I'm not very familiar with all debian stuffs ITP and so on

Feel free to upload my work.

It'll be some time before it can be uploaded. I recieved comments on
the package. There is no shlibs file, the dependencies seem to be messed
and other small things. Shouldn't take too much time to fix up.

  Should I send an ITP?

Once the package is fixed. Let me take a look at it sometime.. I'll send
you comments, and once done, I could upload it for you.
Are you going through the NM process, or do you want to ?

I was not completly satisfied with the current version
I'm just uploading a new one
But will continue to improve :-)

If you want to check what I did, feel free to send remarks,
  congratulations, flames, etc

In that case, let me know when you upload the latest version, and then
I shall have a look at it and then send comments.
Although, I was told by Daniel Burrows (WNPP cop) that you have put in
quite some effort to package the whole thing so far, and its commendable.
So lets iron out the few remaining chinks, and upload.

My only problem is that I don't have a machine capable of trying out the
stuff, so I can only comment on the packaging issues, but cannot test.

Hello,

This package appeared in debian.org as ttf-xwatanabe-mincho
