Bug#126434: ITP: super-sed -- An enhanced version of sed

2001-12-26 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
> > Is there a good reason why the super-sed enhancements are not part of
> > the regular GNU sed?

Here are them in order of importance:

1) Lack of response from the maintainer. The bug fixes (not feature
enhancements) and the Examples section of the manual were all
submitted to Ken Pizzini, and I signed the copyright FSF papers,
but they were never made part of a released version or even a
CVS repository.

2) Experimental-ness of a few changes. The regex matchings
must be verified to be configure-proof on as many architectures
as possible, so that installing it does not wreak havoc on a build
configuration. For example, sed 3.52 is not perfect under Windows,
where it cannot configure sed 3.53 (not yet out).

3) Worse i18n support because of the separate regex matching
library. FSF considers i18n and multibyte character support
very important. Aid in merging back the UTF-8 support to PCRE,
and in using it together with iconv, would be great (also to merge
back with PCRE, from which I've forked in order to add a little
more performance and POSIX regexp support).

the package to him, I can't make a committment to sponsor his uploads at
this time, unfortunately. Feel free to be his sponsor.

  Description : a powerful user-based anti-spam solution

[cc'd to catherine to inform her of my interest to package this for
debian!]

The SpamBouncer is a set of procmail recipes, or instructions, which
search the headers and text of your incoming email for indications of
spam. If spam is identified, there is a plethora of actions you can
take, ranging from tagging, deletion, to complaining to upstream, or
simulating mailer-daemon bounces.

It's updated frequently so as to accomodate for spammers' volatility,
and the package would include an easy way to deal with this.

Please inform me if there is anything that speaks against me packaging
this program.

I've been looking forward this package to be part of Debian

local package of the latest stable version 0.4.

Rainer, if you aren't interested in this stuff anymore, I can upload
them instead (and maintain them). Anyway, I'll upload this to Debian

Do you prefer working in a console, but get tired of ignorant
people assuming that your computer is old just because it only
has text on the screen? Do you have Linux set up to use
framebuffer text consoles?

If so, then maybe you should have a look at fungetty, a
replacement for the standard Linux getty that can display
full-color graphics above the login prompt. I hacked this up
over the last week or so, and it seems to work pretty well. It
can display many kinds of PNG files above the login prompt.
There are some bugs and limitations, but nothing unreasonable.

Download source tarball or Debian i386 binary package from
http://www-cs-students.stanford.edu/~blp
License is GPL. Full documentation. Should be easy to compile.

In a couple of hours I'm leaving for Las Vegas and won't be back
until Christmas Day, but I'll happily read your comments and
patches after that.

I intend to package synopsis.

I have contacted upstream and he has no objections.

Description
---
Synopsis is a general source code documentation tool. By means of a
modular structure it adapts to different styles of embedded
documentation, different programming languages and various output
formats. It scales well with the size of the project by allowing
processing to be controlled by Makefiles.

The original goal of this project was to be able to generate a
reference manual for a project we are working on which uses different
programming lanugages: the protocols are defined with IDL and the
implementation is written in C++. There are no tools to support
document generation with explicit cross references between both parts.
When thinking about how to design a tool which is able to do that, it
was quickly concluded that other parts could be 'outsourced' into
separate modules as well, such as the formatting of the generated
syntax tree. These are a couple of ideas which hopefully make it a tool
which is useful in a wide range of projects.
