Bug#129651: ITP: sdcc -- Small Device C Compiler

2002-01-17 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist

SDCC, Small Device C Compiler, is a C compiler for Intel MCS51 family,
AVR
and Z80 microcontrollers. The package includes the compiler, assemblers
and
linkers and a core library. It also include uCsim, a microcontroller
simulator.

Version 2.3.0 is available from:

http://sdcc.sourceforge.net

LICENSE: SDCC is released under version 2 of the GNU Public License
(GPL).

I'm currently not a maintainer, but I have an offer from Andreas Bombe
[EMAIL PROTECTED] to sponsor me and all that.

I have already done a package for this software, it is available at
http://www.aurel32.net/linux/packages.php3 , but it needs some little
fixes,
as suggested by Andreas Bombe.

Hi,

I tried to compile it on woody, but I could not do it (probably
because the apache-dev package won't install). I'll try agai, and I
could package it if no one else want (the only reason I did not tagged
this report as TIP is that I never packaged anything in debian, but
I'm willing...). Moreover I'm italian, so I can speak directly to the
upstream author.

Bug#129673: RFP: bill -- Open Workgroup Data Exchange Server

2002-01-17 Thread Noel Koethe
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2002-01-17
Severity: wishlist

* URL : http://www.billworkgroup.org/

ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/bill/bill2x/
* License : GPL
Description : Open Workgroup Data Exchange Server

in short: an Exchange replacement.

NH received more and more customer requests asking for a
indepedent workgroup server solution running under LINUX, but
using MS-Outook(TM) as the Client on the MS-Windows(TM) Desktop
for use with shared calendars and task lists etc. and not limited
to e-mail. MS-Outlook(TM) uses a MAPI Service Provider to store
workgroup data centraly in MS-Exchange(TM) database or other 3rd
party messaging servers. Based on this, NH decided to start an
internal project that implements a storage server that can run
on LINUX where different workgroup clients and other applications
can exchange workgroup data. BILL is now under the GNU public licence.
(from http://www.billworkgroup.org/)

From the FAQ:
 What is BILL?
BILL was an internal project at Neuberger Hughes. It´s a
workgroup storage server that can handle complex data objects
and store them in a PostgreSQL database. It´s written in Python
an C. BILL is now published under the GPL (GNU public licence).

Bug#89433: I want to adopt osh

2002-01-17 Thread Oohara Yuuma
I want to adopt osh (#89433), but I am not a Debian developer,
so I can't change the title of the wnpp bug until I find a sponsor.
If you are interested, please sponsor me.

My .deb of osh is available at:
http://www.interq.or.jp/libra/oohara/debian-unofficial/osh_1.7.orig.tar.gz
http://www.interq.or.jp/libra/oohara/debian-unofficial/osh_1.7-9.diff.gz

http://www.interq.or.jp/libra/oohara/debian-unofficial/osh_1.7-9_i386.deb

Note that osh is a setuid root shell and it does *NOT* drop root privilege
when it executes a command. Be extremely careful when you configure or
use it. (osh is installed in /usr/sbin/osh and its permission is 4754.
It is not for a normal user.)

IMHO this kind of programs should be avoided in any sane distribution.
We have already periodic problems with a program like sudo which has potentially
many levels of control over its use/abuse. No sysadmin with a grain of salt
in his mind could install this kind of monsters...
Please, find any other sane orphaned pkg and you will have your sponsor in me.

Bug#129699: ITP: race -- A 3D arcade overhead car game.

2002-01-17 Thread Guus Sliepen
package: wnpp
severity: wishlist

Description:

Race is a 3D racing game where you compete against computer oponents.
The objective is to finish first. The setting is mostly off-road.

This package contains the game and the graphics. Due to licensing
issues the soundtrack cannot be included in Debian, unless I put both
the GPL part and the soundtrack in one single package in non-free. The
license for the soundtrack explicitly does NOT allow me to distribute
it seperately of the actual game.

It was downloaded from http://race.sourceforge.net/

Bug#118884: How vital is it ?

2002-01-17 Thread Ryszard Lach
Hi!

I'm not using msyslog (yet), but I if you could give me some answers, I
think I would migrate to msyslog on my servers and thereby adopt
msyslog. So, this are my qmestions:

1. Do you know any tools for viewing/managing log messages stored in msyslog's
postgres/mysql databases ?
2. What do the upstream authors say about maintaining msyslog ? I'm affraid I
would not be able to resolve source-related bugs myself (probably I
could deal with perl scripts from syslog-common).
3. What do you think about about usage of msyslog - is it popular ?

Thans in advance,

Richard.

Some things I noticed:

o MAXPATHLEN is not available on some systems.

p Is writing something like:
Note that this license is not compatible with the GPL. This means that
you can't redistribute the binary of osh if it is complied with libraries
licensed under the GPL. The debian package is compiled with libc6 and
libncurses5, which seem to have no problem to me (Oohara Yuuma), but I am
 not a lawyer.
into a Debian pacakge copyright file a good idea?

o DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=debug,nostrip debuild
will never work, because debuild does unset env vars.
  DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS= dpkg-buildpackage
  DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS= debian/rules
  should work though.

o Why are you commenting out static char *rcsid ?
o Adding extra {} in if statements does not seem to help anything
o What is the point of:
+/*
 fatal(mes)
+*/
+int fatal(mes)
and other changes, with commented-out changes?

o Why are you building the binary with -O3 -fomit-frame-pointer?
o are you sending the mods to the upstream ? / have you

My personal feeling is that I don't like large diffs,

Hi

I have come to the point where I feel that I can not give the
imp webmail program the time that it should be given. So I have
decided to call for help. I have a lot of ideas but that is more
on the more general basis of web application packaging, not just
the imp package.

If someone do not want to adopt it but just help me maintain it
that is fine too. The problem is mostly the postgres part but
that is a issue of wwwconfig-common which I also call for help of.

I think the imp task force have enough people now. At least so I can
close the RFA bugs. :)

I think I should close that bug by now because we (4 people) have
set up a imp task force who are concentrating on fixing bugs and

Bug#129724: ITP: yelp -- Help browser for GNOME 2.0

2002-01-17 Thread christophe barbé
Salut Christian,

Accepterais-tu ?

Merci,
Christophe

Bug#129352: ITP: gphoto2 -- orphaned package

I would like to become maintener for gphoto2.
This package has been orphaned last week.
as you might know, i'm interested in that package, too
if you really want that one and are able to properly maintain it,
it's yours

I have done a package for the last upstream release beta3.
This package is not perfect but fully functionnal.
but beta3 still does not really support my digicam
i wanted to package a cvs build or wait for the next upstream release

You can find the package at:
ftp.ufies.org/pub/galeon/people/christophe/gphoto2
i'll have a look at it when i have some more time later

 The upstream site is www.gphoto.org
i know that ;)

Bug#123887: [corryk@us.ibm.com: [Evms-devel] [ANNOUNCE] EVMS Release 0.9.0 (Beta)]

2002-01-17 Thread Matt Zimmerman
This new release should include changes which were necessary for a proper
Debian package to be created. Now that it is out, I can resume work on the
package.

Subject: [Evms-devel] [ANNOUNCE] EVMS Release 0.9.0 (Beta)

The EVMS team is officially announcing its first Beta release. Package 0.9.0
of the Enterprise Volume Management System is now available for download at
the project web site:
http://www.sf.net/projects/evms

Highlights for version 0.9.0:

v0.9.0 - 1/17/02
- Core Engine
   - New APIs for Filesystem Interface Modules.
   - Support for setting properties of volumes, objects, and containers.
   - New user-interface tasks.
  - Expand containers, mkfs, fsck, defrag.
   - Improved user-space discovery algorithm.
- GUI
   - Support for expanding containers and removing objects from containers.
   - Support for setting object properties.
- Command Line
   - Support for expanding, shrinking containers.
- LVM Plugin
   - Supports adding/removing objects (PVs) from containers in the GUI or the
  EVMS command line.
- MD Plugin
   - Runtime support for Linear, RAID-0, and RAID-1.
  - Sync and spare-failover available for RAID-1.
  - Hot-add for RAID-1 still under development.
  - Engine support for Linear, RAID-0, and RAID-1.
  - Discovery, creation, deletion.
  - Engine discovery support for RAID-5. No creation yet.
  - Recommended to NOT use the EVMS MD plugin and the original MD driver in
 the same kernel.
- EVMS Drivelinking Plugin
   - Support for missing elements in a drive-link. Exports the drive-link in
read-only mode to allow recovery of data on the remaining elements.
- AIX Plugin
   - Minimal discovery in user-space. Constructs all containers without
  exporting any regions.
- Text-Mode Interface
   - All code and features added. Needs additional testing.
- Kernel
   - Supports specifying an EVMS volume as a root= kernel boot-parameter.
- Lots of testing and bug-fixes.

Bug#89433: I want to adopt osh

Note that this license is not compatible with the GPL. This means that
you can't redistribute the binary of osh if it is complied with libraries
licensed under the GPL. The debian package is compiled with libc6 and
libncurses5, which seem to have no problem to me (Oohara Yuuma), but I am
  not a lawyer.
into a Debian pacakge copyright file a good idea?
I want to avoid a debian-legal flame like osh violates the GPL.

 o DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=debug,nostrip debuild
will never work, because debuild does unset env vars.
   DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS= dpkg-buildpackage
   DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS= debian/rules
   should work though.
debian/rules says:
| # to compile with debugging information:
| # $ debuild -e DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=debug,nostrip
| # (this won't work:
| # DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=debug,nostrip debuild)
Note the word won't.

o Why are you commenting out static char *rcsid ?
o Adding extra {} in if statements does not seem to help anything
o What is the point of:
 +/*
  fatal(mes)
 +*/
 +int fatal(mes)
and other changes, with commented-out changes?
To avild gcc -Wall warnings.
debian/changelog says:
| * exp.c, handlers.c, main.c : hacked to avoid gcc warnings
| - added explicit braces to avoid ambiguous else
| - explicitly declared the return value of some functions as int
| - added some dummy return
| - commented out unused variables, including rcsid
| - moved definition of Internal to main

o Why are you building the binary with -O3 -fomit-frame-pointer?
I like optimization, but I don't know it well. Can you tell me
a better option?
* -O : the old version (1.7-8.1) uses it
* -O2 : the Policy (version 3.5.6.0, section 11.1) suggests it
Generally the following compilation parameters should be used:
(by the way, it includes -Wall)
* -O3 : the Policy also suggests it for Certain binaries (such as
  computationally-intensive programs)

o are you sending the mods to the upstream ? / have you
   contacted the upstream ?
Not yet.
