Sounds nice. It seems to be the only one package of this type in Debian.
I think I would use it.

Bug#131258: Inconsisten license will delay upload

2002-02-12 Thread Thomas Seyrat
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2002-02-12
Severity: serious

babelweb is already packaged, but its license, which is just
inconsistent, won't make the upload immediately possible. Upstream
  has to change license first.

Explanation : babelweb is licensed as "GPL" by the author, who also
added two lines restricting the commercial use of the software
without his authorization first. That is contradictory, and non-free
  according to DFSG.

Indeed, this is the case. As I can not upload packages yet, I have to
ask my sponsor each time I finish a package. Naturally, as my
sponsor is not at my entire disposal, the package was not yet
  uploaded.

So, if you don't mind, I will ask my sponsor (shorty) to upload my
files, replacing yours. It's really not easy to have proxy everything
through my sponsor, especially as there are several packages ...

Ok, don't forget to ask him to remove the files from the DELAYED

Rockin'. Thanks for packaging this. I've been wanting something like
this for a long time. If $DISPLAY is unset, does it assume that it's
":0" and try anyway? Most people are too lazy and/or forgetful to set
$DISPLAY in their console shells.

What's the license again?

Bug#133599: ITP: alicq -- Flexible ICQ client in pure Tcl/Tk

2002-02-12 Thread Dmitry Borodaenko
Package: wnpp
Version: 0.5; reported 2002-02-12
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: alicq
  Version : 0.5
  Upstream Author : Ihar Viarheichyk <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://alicq.sourceforge.net/
* License : GPL
Description : Flexible ICQ client in pure Tcl/Tk

Alicq is pure Tcl/Tk implementation of ICQ client with flexible
modularized architecture, support for ICQ2000/Oscar protocol, and
ability to pick up Licq configuration files and user database.

Why would you use it? It is small, about 1800 lines as of release 0.4.
It is modular and extendable in best tradition of the Tcl scripting
language. New modules are easy to write, and dozen lines Tcl module can
do a lot. It is crossplatfrom: works on Unix, Windows, Macintosh, and
on any other system supported by Tcl/Tk.

P.S.

First reason why I am the best person to package Alicq for Debian is
because it's upstream author, Ihar Viarheichyk, is friend of mine, is
working in my Linux development team, and is sitting in a room down the
corridor. Second reason is that I am the longest and most loyal Debian
user here, I have experience building .deb packages for internal use,
and I have full access to the local Alicq CVS where updates appear
before they go to SourceForge.

To see why Debian will benefit from having yet another ICQ client in the
distro, just try Alicq. Almost every Linux user in our company has
already switched from Licq.

Bug#133605: ITP: tex-chess -- fonts for typesetting chess moves/diags with (La)TeX

2002-02-12 Thread Peter van Rossum
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2002-02-12
Severity: normal

Piet Tutelaers' chess fonts and macros for TeX and LaTeX are
the most commonly (only?) used metafont fonts for typesetting
chess moves and diagram using (La)TeX. It is available from,
for instance, ftp://ftp.ntg.nl/pub/tex-archive/fonts/chess.
According to the copyright file "These METAFONT programs and
other files are freely distributable in the spirit of TeX."

There is one serious drawback: the package hasn't been updated
since 1992! The example files are, for instance, still for use
with the old LaTeX (2.9?). The package itself works ok with
current LaTeX.

Becaue it still seems to be in use, I'd still like to package it.
The main reason is, btw, that it is used by scid, a chess game database,
to generate printable output.

I would like to find another maintainer who can take better care of Jade.

Most of the issues have to do with C++ portability issues or build
issues. Therefore, some C++ knowledge, and some autoconf knowledge is
a must.

I can muddle through maintaining this package until someone else takes it.

Severity: wishlist

* Package name: cm-super

Description : cm-super is a collection of Type1 fonts. These fonts are
interesting in
use with TeX related tools (such as pdftex or fvi2pdf), in pdf
generation.

MORE: the above mentioned tools generate rasters images
for glyphes, in lack of Type1 fonts, which produces poor and slow
rendering for the
documents produced with rasters. Such Type1 fonts are provided with
teTeX (the bluesky
font colelction) but the do not covers european languages glyphes (with
all diacretics).
In this hole fits the cm-super font collection.
