Directory services like LDAP are suitable for holding a lot of
organizational information in a standarized database scheme. LDAP is
very handy for e.g. providing centralized addressbooks for the users
of an organization. Widely used mail client software like Netscape
Messenger or Outlook have already built-in support for accessing
directory services through LDAP for retrieving personal data like mail
addresses or certificate data.

However some situations arise in which there is a strong need for

a robuste and flexible LDAP client software which provides add/modify of
LDAP entries.
access to the directory without having LDAP capable client software (e.g.
via WWW).
a secure LDAP client with clean login behaviour.
hiding the LDAP service behind a firewall.
encryption for LDAP access over unsecure networks.

This is why web2ldap was developed which aims to be a full-featured LDAPv2+
client.

Bug#140889: ITP: web2ldap -- web-based LDAP editor written in Python

2002-04-02 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

I am currently working on packaging web2ldap.

Package: web2ldap
License: Almost GPL (described in bug#80195 which also went to d-legal)

I will definately try to convince Jeremy Hylton to change his license of
pisces.asn1 to allow putting the package into main, but if unsuccesful I
will see if it is allowed in non-free instead...

PyWebLib is written by the same author as web2ldap, and is required for
packaging that program.

Even though there might be license problems packaging web2ldap later on,
this library is pure GPL.

Actually, this could probably be closed, since beroftpd was IIRC a wu-ftpd
fork that got merged into wu proper later.

This is correct.

 3. What is BeroFTPD ?
BeroFTPD was a derivative of wu-ftpd with extra functionality
for virtual hosts. Patches from the VR versions were
included. The enhancments from BeroFTPD are now incorporated
into the main daemon.

Description : Source for replacement of time funcion

From the code:
This is source for replacement of time funcion, which enables you
to travel in time. It is usable for testing or it should help
if you have any program which expires in any time period and uses
shared libraries. I wrote this, because I want to get my old
expired netscape to work for me.
  Usage:
set library libfaketime.so to load before any other :
  export LD_PRELOAD=`pwd`/libfaketime.so
then set env variable FAKE_TIME_DIFF to amount of seconds to
travel in time (positive goes in past , nogative to future)
  export FAKE_TIME_DIFF=-100
than you should see with date command where are you in time :-)

I need to contact upstream about licensing, and versioning issues.
Expect an upload in a couple of weeks - I am now marked as being on
vacation (going to GUADEC III tomorrow).
