Bug#87949: Removing frad?

2002-05-17 Thread Colin Watson
Hi folks,

Should we ask for frad to be removed? The former maintainer recommended
this in his orphaning message (#87949, cc'ed), and nobody has picked up
the package in the year and more since it was orphaned. According to
#87949, it only supports 2.0/2.1 kernels, and even users of those have
an alternative.

Any objections?

GOO is a dynamic, type-based, object-oriented language in the same

Very good idea! =)

Have you looked at the 'gnome-office' module in Gnome's cvs? Maybe
there're interesting things in this cvs module to be included in
this package?

I didn't look at it myself, but I saw it lurking around cvs.gnome.org

Followup-For: Bug #141936

I asked the contact from the OpenNMS website if they'd be building a
Debian package. They said there had been some licensing issues before,
but that there aren't now. So they said they "may consider it".

I'd be very interested in seeing this package built for Debian. One of
the lead programmers did a presentation on it at a local LUG meeting,
and it looked nifty. Alot of options, very configurable, etc.

/* DaVinci:  a journalling library,
 *   a GNOME application,
 *   and Evolution component.
 *
 *   Copyright (c) 2001 John Tunison <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
 */

Introduction

DaVinci is a journalling client. It works as a stand-alone journal manager, or
with online journalling systems such as Advogato and LiveJournal.

DaVinci began as a series of patches to LogJam. Eventually, very little of the
original code was left. Many of the good ideas in LogJam have been gratefully
stolen in DaVinci, especially the "look and feel". Many thanks to the original
authors of LogJam, especially Evan Martin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

If you are interested in writing journalling code of your own, you may want to
look at libdavinci. There is complete model/view separation, and the
possibilities are endless.

For a complete list of features, see FEATURES.

If you need help or have comments, please use the mailing lists!

Requirements

GNOME 1.4:  http://www.gnome.org
(in particular, gnome-libs and libxml)
libcurl:  http://curl.haxx.se/libcurl/

(optional)
for music autodetection: XMMS 1.2 or later. http://www.xmms.org

Getting Started
---
DaVinci has a pretty standard setup.
Running:
$ ./configure
$ make
$ su
# make install
should be all you need to install it.

The installed executable is called "davinci".

Using DaVinci

If you have any questions or topics that should be covered in this section,

Known Bugs
--
What!?  Where?  :)

- "history" in the Advogato model is loosely defined to be .. um.. the entries
on the first page of your journal. It doesn't really make sense to fix this
until somebody gets Advo servers to spit out something other than HTML.
- "friend groups" are not supported in LJ; neither are friend group security
levels
- the evolution component is not yet finished
- the command line version is not yet finished

 Yes of course, you are right. It was just a first start to get the

  Description : This package will install the core gnome-office packages

 This package depends on the core gnome-office packages to make it easy
 to install them all in a rush. It includes a spreadsheet application, a
 word processor, a webbrowser, image viewer, vector graphic program,
 raster graphic program, project management program, diagram editor and
 a database management tool. More is in work and/or not yet packaged for
 Debian.

 I think that this would be quite useful. It's merely just an idea that
popped up in my mind that will help people get a good selections of
applications in a rush.

 If you think this should be better done through Tasks: speak up but
I'll be questioning the koffice package then in return, too ;-)
