Bug#147968: ITP: gnustep-guile -- A GNUstep Interface to Guile (and vice versa)
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist gnustep-guile is the scripting framework for GNUstep. It allows Guile developers to write GNUstep programs, and GNUstep programmers to extend their applications with Guile. As the gnustep.org Web site states, gnustep-guile "enhance[s] GNUstep to be scriptable making it even more dynamic and superior." gnustep-guile is a part of the GNUstep system. It is copyrighted by the Free Software Foundation, and available under the GPL. A (very old) version of this package can be found as gstep-guile0 in potato. gstep-guile0 was left out in the revamping of the GNUstep packages, and gnustep-guile will step in (ha ha step) to take its place. -- Evan Prodromou [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". The thing nobody wants to do is conversion between pixel formats - between all pixel formats that is, not between any two. There are handwritten assembler routines in Hermes that should make anything look fast. . An application or library that uses Hermes will for example be able to render into one buffer and convert it to whatever pixel format is available on the target platform at the time. . Other services provided by Hermes include palette handling including caching of lookup tables, and surface clearing to a specific colour value. . See http://www.clanlib.org/ for more info Justification: Some packages were hijacked (clanlib, pingus), gkermit only had an initial release and no upload since then, ckertmit an initial release and a NMU; packages NMUed, etc. Also, see http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2002/debian-devel-200201/msg00376.html -- Martin Michlmayr [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- Received: (at 143651-close) by bugs.debian.org; 23 May 2002 21:08:03 + >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu May 23 16:08:03 2002 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from auric.debian.org [206.246.226.45] (mail) by master.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.12 1 (Debian)) id 17AzoZ-0002tb-00; Thu, 23 May 2002 16:08:03 -0500 Received: from katie by auric.debian.org with local (Exim 3.12 1 (Debian)) id 17AzV3-0003hR-00; Thu, 23 May 2002 16:47:53 -0400 From: Filip Van Raemdonck <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: $Revision: 1.21 $ Subject: Bug#143651: fixed in hermes1 1.3.2-3 Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sender: Archive Administrator <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Thu, 23 May 2002 16:47:53 -0400

Yet the conclusion is the same as when people say "don't package it, we don't want more non-free software bloating our archive"... Although I'm not 100% comfortable with the stance Transgaming has taken, they haven't done anything that they weren't allowed to do by law and that the copyright holders on Wine explicitly agreed to in their license. BTW, I believe the current maintainer of the Debian Wine package is a Transgaming employee. You might consider this another reason not to package WineX, if doing so would engender ill will with the author: does having WineX available to us in the archive for a little while really justify creating a conflict of interest for the maintainer that (one presumes) would be maintaining the mainline packages in the long term? WITHOUT CHANGING ANYTHING TO THE CURRENT LIMBO STATE OF THE PACKAGE, (not pushed into debian for the moment, but in discussion) I suggest to refer to the package from as: winex-light This should reduce the kind of "dilution" and "confusion" reaction, how misguided they might be... the "light" reflects the 1. not including Microsoft dll's 2. binary installation and tweaking from TransGaming -- greetz, marc BOFH excuse #72: Satan did it pgp Key ID: 0xD3562DE1 Key fingerprint = 890C E47F 1589 F240 9CC8 C60C 510A 63D3 D356 2DE1 Linux scorpius.dyndns.org 2.4.19-pre4 #1 Tue Apr 2 22:47:06 CEST 2002 i686 unknown pgpgnfb5ZXVv3.pgp Description: PGP signature

> I'd like to register my objection to this package being installed, even > in non-free. As a Transgaming subscriber and supporter of their work, I > don't want to see Transgaming's work be diluted, and I imagine that many > people feel similarly. I urge the prospective maintainer to reconsider. If I might remark, this attitude is pretty short sighted and is not consistent with anything what FS/OS stands for. Immagine someone saying "I object to the distribution of debian, because it distributes GNU/Linux in a binary way and this might dilute and be confused with the work of Slackware", some years ago. Or "I object to the distribution of OpenOffice, because it emulates the behaviour and look-and-feel of Microsoft Word, whos work might get diluted and confused with" Or "I object to the distribution of GNU/Linux, *BSD, ... because it is an Operating System, and this might dilute the work of some company who is also providing an OS." (The first one would me more appropriate since both share the same codebase). Imagine changes made by RH, Debian ppl, ... to GNU software not to be distributed in other distribs. You are threading a _very_ thin line there... I guess this case _clearly_ shows the _need_ and _use_ for the (L)GPL and what can happen if it is not used... As far as the package is concerned, though I understand their objections, I do not feel completely comfortable with it, something feels wrong. I withdrew it for the moment and am discussing the situation with a couple of debian developers. -- greetz, marc BOFH excuse #341: HTTPD Error 666 : BOFH was here pgp Key ID: 0xD3562DE1 Key fingerprint = 890C E47F 1589 F240 9CC8 C60C 510A 63D3 D356 2DE1 Linux scorpius.dyndns.org 2.4.19-pre4 #1 Tue Apr 2 22:47:06 CEST 2002 i686 unknown pgp5QDLB2rSBP.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#147706: wnpp: ITP: fortunes-fr -- French fortunes cookies

It will not work nicely together and I have no clue how to do that. If you want to have fortunes of *more than one* language just have a look at /usr/share/doc/fortunes-de/examples. This shows how to use English and German cookies. Extending it to French would be easy. I think a more general solution would need a config file which tells the script which languages to use. My hint was just intended for a setup of fortunes-fr *instead of* fortunes-de which would cost you just a copy of my mechanism. > I have seen your messages in the BTS. Bug#140484: ITP: provoxy -- Privacy enhancing HTTP Proxy
retitle 140484 ITP: provoxy -- Privacy enhancing HTTP Proxy thanks Bill Jonas <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> decided to keep away from the Debian package of privoxy, so I'll talk over this job as offered some time before. I'll upload the package as soon as possible (just working on a permission problem, which was reported upstream). Until my first official Debian release, you can find an unofficial version of the package at the privoxy home page on sourceforge or at http://www.spinnaker.de/debian/unoff/privoxy.html Tscho Roland -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
