Bug#150218: ITP: dansguardian -- True web content filtering

2002-06-17 Thread Jonathan Hall
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2002-06-16
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: dansguardian
  Version : 2.2.10
  Upstream Author : Daniel Barron [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.dansguardian.org/
* License : GPL
  Description : True web content filtering

DansGuardian is a web content filtering proxy for Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD,
and Solaris that uses Squid to do all the fetching. It filters using
multiple methods. These methods include URL and domain filtering, content
phrase filtering, PICS filtering, MIME filtering, file extension filtering,
POST limiting.

The content phrase filtering will check for pages that contain profanities
and phrases often associated with pornography and other undesirable content.
The POST filtering allows you to block or limit web upload. The URL and
domain filtering is able to handle huge lists and is significantly faster
than squidGuard.

The filtering has configurable domain, user and source ip exception lists.
SSL Tunneling is supported.

 If you don't want to see a flamewar, don't start one. The incident you
 are refering to was fundamentally different to this one. This is about
 a program that the system administrator installs to filter content on
 his network. There's no sanitation of content provided by Debian
 going on in this case.

Debian packages for xrick is done, but as you might know xrick is
currently un-distributable due to it's license.

I've made the debian diff file available and a script that automatically
downloads the source from the authors site and builds a .deb.

 The POST filtering allows you to block or limit web upload. The URL and

Perhaps a more interesting application on content filtering (at least
for me) is virus scanning in files downloaded.

Can dansguardian do this? Perhaps when used with a virus scanner, eg
clamav or scannerdaemon?

Bug#150104: waimea -- a window manager similar to blackbox

2002-06-17 Thread Jay Graves
Description :The design goal for waimea is to create the most efficient
desktop working environment available. To achieve this waimea is a
fast and highly customizable virtual desktop window manager. It uses
blackbox image rendering engine (blackbox styles support) and can use
Xft library for font rendering (anti-aliased font support). It also
features a very advanced configuration system with which it's
possible to make waimea behave as almost any other window manager.
