Bug#153977: O: xinetd -- An inetd replacement with interesting extra functionality
Package: wnpp Version: N/A; reported 2002-07-23 Severity: normal Hi, Due to increasing home commitments, family and pets particularly. Also greater work commitments, and a desire to get back to grass-roots coding, I am giving up one or two of my more high-maintainence packages. xinetd is a package which I originally adopted in order to fix some problems with the configuration managment which was destroying the configs on my server, it has proven a very interesting package to handle and upstream do seem to respond to questions (eventually) -- It has become a bit too much for me due to problems in the lack of testing upstream subject the software to before release. As such, I would like someone to take it off my hands. I can't really continue to manage it with all my other jobs :( xinetd would be better maintained by a seasoned debian developer, although it could prove to be a very interesting project for a dedicated and skilled person currently in the NM process. I would be prepared to mentor (at a low-level of communication) someone who wanted to adopt xinetd and become a developer, on the proviso that they find someone else to sponsor them in. I'd really like to see xinetd become the standard inetd by the next Debian release. Is anyone planning on taking steps to make this happen? It would seem easy enough to me, either by porting update-inetd to write an xinetd.conf, or by making sure all packages which use inetd also provide a file in /etc/xinetd.d/, as well as a backwards-compatibility mode to call update-inetd if inetd still exists on the system (perhaps someone can write a dh_installxinetd to do this automagically?) -- ___ ___ / _ | / _ \ Ari Pollak - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - www.aripollak.com / __ |/ ___/ /_/ |_/_/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
