Bug#160472: RFA: plucker -- Pluck stuff from the web and read on your PalmOS device

2002-09-11 Thread Mikael Hedin
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2002-09-11
Severity: normal

As I don't use it regularly myself anymore, someone else might be more
keen to have it. I'll still keep it updated etc, but if you think it
needs some serious work done, please adopt it and go ahead.

/Micce

The package description is:
Plucks stuff from the web (or any URL), and encodes them
appropriately for viewing on a PalmOS device. Very flexible in the
way sites are plucked, e.g. link depth, images etc. Includes the
 PalmOS viewer program.

   Description : Remotely control a user's X desktop

 From the web page:

x0rfbserver is a software application that is able to export an X desktop to
another machine. It exports the framebuffer of the X server to one or more
clients using strong compression and injects keyboard and mouse inputs from
 the
clients into the server. The protocol used is the well documented RFB 3.3
protocol, so x0rfbserver should be compatible with every client speaking that
protocol too, e.g. it should work together with the vnc viewers of ATT.

x0rfbserver provides a complete remote control of the desktop on the computer
 it
 is running on.

   Description : 65(c)02 Cross Assembler

This cross-assembler makes programs for another computer that has a
6502-like CPU. This CPU has been widely used in the famous Apple II, all the
Commodore 8-Bit Computers (PET, VIC20 and a derivate in the C64) and many
others. Some are still used in one-chip microcontrollers, e.g. the Rockwell
modem chipset. All these chip share a common set of standard machine
language commands, some of them (e.g. the CMOS versions) have additional
 (software) features.

Whoops.

Fortfarande intresserad?

I orphaned the speedy-cgi-perl package on Dec 18 2001.

The package description is:
SpeedyCGI is a way to run perl scripts persistently, which usually makes
them run much more quickly because it avoids the overhead of starting
up a new perl interpreter and compiling the perl code. It is most
often used for CGI scripts but it can be used to speed up most perl
 programs.

Does it work also on ext3 filesystems?

i don't know. try it. i would assume so.

I wouldn't. From http://e2undel.sourceforge.net/usage.html

In general, ext2 and ext3 are compatible file systems: You
can mount an ext3 fs as ext2 and even use the ext2 low level
utilities like debugfs. However, ext3 behaves in a different
manner in one crucial point: If a file is deleted, its inode
data are removed, too. Especially, the list of data blocks
is lost; so it is not possible to recover any deleted file.

I'm not gonna package GSubEdit because the upstream author has frozen
development indefinetly, if he resumes development and the application
reaches an usable status, I'll package it again.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

This is very cool, but it has some license issues, since it linked

Bug#160609: ITP: speex -- Free Speech Coding

2002-09-11 Thread Maitland Bottoms
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

The Speex project aims to build an open-source (LGPL) patent-free
voice codec. Unlike other codecs like MP3 and Ogg Vorbis, Speex is
specially designed for compressing voice at low bit-rates in the 8-32
kbps/channel range. Possible applications include Voice over IP
(VoIP), Internet audio streaming, archiving of speech data (e.g. voice
mail), and audio books. In some sense, it is meant to be complementary
to the Ogg Vorbis codec.

Home page is at: http://speex.sourceforge.net/

A preliminary packaging of version 0.8.1 is done, will be uploaded to
Debian when some man pages are written and a linitan rpath warning
gets solved.

Jean-Marc Valin writes:
Let me know if, or when, you'd like me to add speex into Debian.

Well, you can start doing it now, as long as you make sure people know
that the current file format may not be definitive (just like when
Vorbis was around beta). I think the file format should be frozen within
1-2 months at which point it will be ready for more general use.

Description : Powerful qmail addon package for virtual domain email.

Vmailmgr provides a virtualizing password-checking interface to
qmail-pop3d, a delivery agent to automatically deliver mail within a
virtual domain, and a set of tools to manage such a domain. It also has
Courier IMAP support. It uses one uid per domain, and this user can
fully administer the domain without needing suid access rights. Making
it work is as easy as adding a line in qmail's virtualdomains file, and
running a few commands.

I need this package for a phpgroupware module.

I intend to package Thy, a http daemon I have written (and put under
the GPL). Why another, one might ask. Well, all the other httpds I
tried had some serious disadvantages (boa not supporting name-based
virtual hosts, nor ranges; thttpd eating memory like a madman in some
situations, having unconfigurable error documents, and listing
dotfiles in directory listings; bozohttpd does not support Ranges; wn
is annoying; and I didn't like dhttpd either; smeagol does not support
userdirs, and the code isn't that great either..), which Thy does not.

Experimental packages are available from:
 deb http://bonehunter.rulez.org/debian sid madhouse

I plan to upload the next public release (which will probably be
0.1.292).
