Bug#161603: packaging util.concurrent for Debian
Professor Lea, I'm interested in packaging your util.concurrent java library for the Debian GNU/Linux distribution. I'm writing to let you know, and to ask a few questions. First, your documentation mentions that a few of the classes use copyrighted code from SUN. I'd like to know if you have had any indication from SUN that it is legal to distribute these files. To protect the individuals and organizations who donate mirror space from liability, Debian won't distribute such code without explicit permission. If SUN won't give it, I'll remove those classes. Next, parts of your library depend on parts of the Java2 API. Debian only includes software the meets the Debian Free Software Guidlines (http://www.debian.org/social_contract#guidlines), and currently there is no Java2 runtime that does so. Thus the package will depend on something not in the main Debian distribution, and have to be in the "contrib" section of the archive. An alternative would be to leave out the parts of the library that require Java2, but I don't know if this would be satisfactory to potential users. I'll follow your guidance on this issue. I'm sure these points can be resolved without too much trouble. I'd also like to thank you for creating such high quality free software. -- Steven Barker [EMAIL PROTECTED] Shannon's Observation: Nothing is so frustrating as a bad situation that is beginning to improve. Bug#162689: ITP: fragroute - Test a NIDS by attempting to evade using fragmented packets
Package: wnpp Version: N/A; reported 2002-09-28 Severity: wishlist * Package name: fragroute Version : 1.2 Upstream Author : Dug Song <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> * URL : http://www.monkey.org/~dugsong/fragroute/ * License : 3-clause BSD Description : Test a NIDS by attempting to evade using fragmented packets fragroute intercepts, modifies, and rewrites egress traffic destined for a specified host, implementing most of the attacks described in the Secure Networks "Insertion, Evasion, and Denial of Service: Eluding Network Intrusion Detection" paper of January 1998. . It features a simple ruleset language to delay, duplicate, drop, fragment, overlap, print, reorder, segment, source-route, or otherwise monkey with all outbound packets destined for a target host, with minimal support for randomized or probabilistic behaviour. . This tool was written in good faith to aid in the testing of network intrusion detection systems, firewalls, and basic TCP/IP stack behaviour. Please do not abuse this software.
