Description : plops icons down on your root window (desktop)

idesk plops icons down on your root window (desktop). It includes
support for PNG alpha layers, and pretty antialiased text with Xft.

idesk is very fast, faster then nautilus, and runs on most of the
available window managers (not tested all). It's a small package
which comes without any icons or pixmaps, and can use all installes
png's.

Description : Easily create secure, bandwidth-friendly TCP/IP clients and
servers

- One easy module to create both clients and servers
- Object Oriented interface
- Event-based callbacks in server mode
- Internal protocol to take care of all the common transport problems
- Transparent encryption
- Transparent compression

This class allows you to easily create TCP/IP clients and servers and
provides an OO interface to manage the connection(s). This allows you to
concentrate on the application rather than on the transport.

You still have to engineer your high-level protocol. For example, if you're
writing an SMTP client-server pair, you will have to teach your client to
send HELO when it connects, and you will have to teach your server what to
do once it receives the HELO command, and so forth.

What you won't have to do is worry about how the command will get there,
about line termination, about binary data, complex-structure serialization,
encryption, compression, or about fragmented packets on the received end. All
of these will be taken care of by this class.

First of all, have you talked to Branden about this?

Second, I've been maintaining unofficial packages of fontconfig and xft2
in my local repository for quite some time now; see
http://people.debian.org/~walters

Third, these packages will (AIUI) be distributed in the XFree source
tarball, so Branden should probably be the one who packages them, unless
you've worked something out with him.

Finally, you should not upload this until Branden splits xlibs and
xlibs-dev; otherwise you will need to use dpkg-divert (as my packages
do), and that's why I didn't ITP or upload them.

Bug#93368: Sara packages might not be license compatible

2002-11-24 Thread Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña

Just to add more information for the curius: Sara is not properly licensed.
It was rejected from the archive's upload queue August 2002 by aj:

``This program is *not* free software since no fee (other than
 at-cost) can be charged for its distribution (see note below);
SARA changes to the SATAN code base, although GPL, cannot make
 this package go into main/free.''
 .
This doesn't work -- if your original codebase wasn't DFSG-free (and
GPL compatible), then you can't distribute modifications based on GPLed
changes. Talk to -legal about your options from here.

Sara packages are availabe in the same place I mentioned but, for the
moment, it will not be included in Debian.

I still have to discuss at debian-legal (and with Sara's team for that
matter) the licensing issues. But AFAIK Dan Farmer and/or Wietse Venema
will not change SATAN's original license and this means that either
Sara's team rewrites the Satan code base or it can never be included
into main (it could maybe be included into contrib by depending on
satan and patching it, or, otherwise, in non-free)

I've uploaded test version of the tool at

deb http://people.debian.org/~taru/deb/apt-listbugs/ ./

I'd like you to check it.

Currently, it retrieves bugs from not bugs.debian.org,
but hanzubon.debian.gr.jp, which does proxy-caching of
bugs.debian.org temporally. This keeps a query to
bugs.debian.org for 20 miniutes to avoid many queries
to it.

I guess we need more sophisticated framework.

Hi, I'm writing a tool 'apt-listbugs' which retrieves bugs from
the Debian Bug Tracking System and lists them. Especially,
apt-listbugs is invoked before each installation by apt
in order to check whether the upgrade is safe. If it finds
critical bugs, you can stop the installation and save your

Of cource, it's needed that anyone reports the critical bug
