Bug#170676: ITP: thuban -- Thuban is an interactive geographic data viewer.

2002-11-27 Thread Silke Reimer
Hello Steve,

Thanks for your hints. Since this is my first debian package I'm
glad if someone gives me some hints about the right way to do the
packaging.

Description : Thuban is an interactive geographic data viewer
  written in Python.

No need to repeat the name in the short description, just an
interactive geographic data viewer is sufficient. That it is written in
python is irrelevant to the description. (I can always find out, if I
care, by looking at the Depends.)

This is already changed, since lintian already told me about that
:-)

Main features are its cross-plattform GUI, extensability and
flexibility for deriving individual GIS applications.

Thuban is implemented with wxPython which allows its
GUI to blend in with desktop on different platforms.

 Platform only has one 't'.

I'd argue that the description you've written is aimed a lot more at
developers than users. As a user, what I'd mostly care about is what
kind of geographic data formats it's capable of displaying, and what
different ways it can display that data.

OK, I'll change the description according to your suggestions.

Bug#170932: ITP: libpqxx -- C++ library for connecting to a PostgreSQL database

2002-11-27 Thread Oliver Elphick
Package: wnpp
Version: unavailable; reported 2002-11-27
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libpqxx
  Version : 0.0.1
Upstream Author : Jeroen T. Vermeulen [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://gborg.postgresql.org/
* License : BSD
Description : C++ library for connecting to a PostgreSQL database

There are many similar libraries for PostgreSQL and for other databases, some
of them database-independent. Most of these, however, are fairly C-like in
their programming style, and fail to take advantage of the full power of the
C++language as it has matured since the acceptance of the Standard in 1996.
What
libpqxx brings you is effective use of templates to reduce the inconvenience of
dealing with type conversions; of standard C++ strings to keep you from having
to worry about buffer allocation and overflow attacks; of exceptions to take
the tedious and error-prone plumbing around error handling out of your hands;
of constructors and destructors to bring resource management under control; and
even basic object-orientation to give you some extra reliability features that
would be hard to get with most other database interfaces.

This package requires PostgreSQL to be installed--including the C headers for
client development. The library builds on top of PostgreSQL's standard C API,
libpq.

The existing C++ interface for PostgreSQL is poorly supported and will be
superseded by this package. I will retain the existing library for the
benefit of anyone who is already using it, but new C++ development with
PostgreSQL should use this library.

Bug#170939: RFA: linbot -- WWW site link checker

2002-11-27 Thread Colin Watson
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I'm looking for a new maintainer for linbot. The new upstream version is
called webcheck and needs to be packaged, but there are a few problems
here, mostly linbot-specific .png files that need to be refreshed for
webcheck (I'll give details to whoever wants to take over). I have too
much else to do and just haven't had the time to get this sorted out.

It would help if the new maintainer's knowledge of Python was better
than mine (not hard) in order to fix some code problems in coordination
with upstream.

Package: linbot
Priority: extra
Section: web
Installed-Size: 316
Maintainer: Colin Watson [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Architecture: all
Version: 1.0.0-8
Depends: python (= 2.2), python ( 2.3)
Suggests: www-browser, httpd
Filename: pool/main/l/linbot/linbot_1.0.0-8_all.deb
Size: 66042

Description: WWW site link checker
linbot is a python program that allows webmasters to: view the
structure of a site; track down broken links; find potentially
outdated HTML pages; list links pointing to external sites; view
portfolio of inline images; and do all this periodically and without
user intervention. Results are displayed in a set of HTML pages.

Please contact me before adopting this package.

Bug#78855: intermezzo/intersync packaging

2002-11-27 Thread Andres Salomon
Just to keep people up-to-date; work's been keeping me far too busy, so
I haven't been able to release packages yet. I lost my original set of
packages when a machine died, so I had to start from scratch. Now that
my company's done w/ their 2.0 product release, I have free time again;
I plan to upload intermezzo packages around thanksgiving weekend. What
I've got so far is an intersync package and an intermezzo-source
package. I want to do some verification that they actually
compile/work/run (as kernel modules) before making them public.

 Hi,

I'm looking for someone who wishes to adopt celestia. I'm not really
using the program lately and I'm sure it's suffering because of that.
Development upstream is very active and Chris Laurel is very
cooperative. There's some half-done GTK 2 port in the Debian packages
which needs to be finished and submitted upstream. Other than that,
  it's pretty much ok.
I'd be interested in adopting this. I'll try to pick apart the package
this weekend and give you a definate yes/no on wheter or not I feel
qualified. My only reservation is that I'm not very familiar with the
gnome1-2 issues. I did a bunch of gtk/gnome programming a while ago,
but haven't really kept up with the recent changes in gnome2.

Great!

That's correct, and was my plan before I ran out of time. I think a

I've got some preliminary work lying around in my home directory; when I
get back from my parents' (tomorrow) I'll see if any of it's valuable
and if so pass it on to you.

I've also got a couple of e-mails with the new upstream that I can pass
on.

Thanks again.

This package is necessary for midge (see #168903).

Unfortunately, the module source does not
include any license. So this is basicly
undistributable right now. I've contacted upstream (it's two
years since last release, I really hope he is still alive),
about this issue. libmidi-perl package is basicly
finished, and midge too, but the license issue
is holding both uploads back now.

This is DBD::Pg for Ruby. It's dependent on libdbi-ruby (that I've ITPed

I can easily maintain this package, since I am using it

Maria is a powerful tool designed to aid engineers in modelling and
solving concurrency related problems in parallel and distributed
computing systems.

Maria finds deadlocks and violations against safety or liveness
requirements by exploring all states that can be reached from the
initial state of a system. The tool manages tens or hundreds of
millions of reachable states and enabled actions.

The expressive power of Maria's formalism is close to high-level
programming languages, thanks to its rich data type system and
powerful algebraic operations.
