2002-12-28 Thread cn-domain
Title: Yawadoo.Us

  .COM.CN

New .com.cn domains

Businesses
around the world will soon be
able to establish a Chinese
identity on the web. For the
first time ever, .CN, the
Internet address for China,
will be made available to
businesses outside of China
under a new liberalized
policy.

 No local presence required
First come .. first served registration
 No special registration restrictions
Demand expected to be very strong

Trademark Holders
There is NO Sunrise or IP Protection Period for com/net/org.cn. If you
wish to protect your trademarks, you should pre-register your domains now
to ensure submission the day .CN opens. To recoup a domain later you must
go through China's Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy.

The
Dot CN registry, responsible
for the .com.cn offering, has
set a launch date of Dec
16th.
Yawadoo.Us
will begin queuing
pre-registrations for the
.com.cn domain on a first come
first serve basis, so be sure
to get in the registration
process early before the best
domain names are taken.

China's
recent accession to the World
Trade Organization (WTO) is
proof that the Chinese economy
is taking great strides toward
accessibility. Don't miss your
opportunity to open the door
on 1.1 billion potential
customers. Pre-register your

Description : Java bindings for the GNOME and GTK libraries

Java-GNOME is a set of Java bindings for the GNOME and GTK libraries that
allow GNOME and GTK applications to be written in Java. The project consists
of two libraries; java-gtk, a GTK-only binding, and java-gnome, a GTK and
GNOME binding. Java-GNOME is not a Swing look-and-feel mimicking the GTK
look, it is not a GTK/GNOME rewrite in Java, and it is not a set of GTK
peers for AWT. It is a JNI layer that delegates the calls out to the native
GTK or GNOME C libraries.

Source tar.gz and src.rpm are currently available. These have the entire
source for compiling the libraries (which have many dependencies in
terms of compiling them). Additionally, the packages contain many
example java programs (these are really useful for developers who are
learning to use the java-gnome bindings); and sources for generating
documentation (Javadoc API reference and tutorial)

I would suggest that this is packaged as three separate packages:
* binary bindings
* Source bindings (including all relevant dependancies)
* Developer package, including documentation and example programs

Severity: wishlist

* Package name: webcheck
  Version : 1.0
Upstream Author : Mike Meyer [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.mired.org/webcheck/
* License : GPL
Description : WWW site link checker (linbot replacement)

This is really an intent to rename, per bug #154763. The control record
for the old package, linbot, follows:

Package: linbot
Priority: extra
Section: web
Installed-Size: 316
Maintainer: Colin Watson [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Architecture: all
Version: 1.0.0-6
Depends: python (= 2.1), python ( 2.2)
Suggests: www-browser, httpd
Filename: pool/main/l/linbot/linbot_1.0.0-6_all.deb
Size: 65856
MD5sum: bfde14e624e0fdafb4dead9521bce9e1
Description: WWW site link checker
linbot is a python program that allows webmasters to: view the
structure of a site; track down broken links; find potentially
outdated HTML pages; list links pointing to external sites; view
portfolio of inline images; and do all this periodically and without
user intervention. Results are displayed in a set of HTML pages.

I'll probably version the new package something like 1.0.0w-1 to avoid
the need for an epoch; once I push the Debian changes upstream I hope
there'll be a new upstream release anyway. I intend to provide a dummy
linbot package to ease upgrades.

Bug#174525: ITP: dar -- Disk ARchive: Backup directory tree and files.

2002-12-28 Thread Russell Coker
On Sat, 28 Dec 2002 08:28, Brian May wrote:
 - The Author recommends linking with -static, so restoration programs
will work without extra libraries. I haven't decided if this is a good
idea or not, if it needs to be applied to all binaries. lintian
gets upset if my package contains static binaries.

I suggest having a separate dar-restore-static package for that.

 - My version is compiled with ATTR (EA) support, however, DAR gets very
verbose if the filesystem doesn't support ATTRs (IMHO errors of type
Operation not supported need to be ignored). These warnings
will disappear if the -Uu flags are used (don't archive ATTRs).

Maybe you could patch it to check for ATTR support on backup at the start of
each file system. If a file system does not support ATTR then display a
single message File system /var does not support ATTR. and continue on with
no further messages. Of course it's a bit more serious if you do a restore
with ATTR support and the file system doesn't like it...

 - ssh can be used for backups (just pipe the data via ssh to the
destination file), for incremental backups (generate catalog at server
and send it to client first). However, I am not certain about restores
(client requires 2 pipes to server, one in each direction; this makes
   me nervous about potential deadlocks).

Shouldn't be a problem, just do ssh client restore-comand and then the
client's stdin and stdout are the two pipes you need. Gotta test it first of
course, but I expect it to work.

Bug#174494: ITP: debbug-gtk -- GTK applications for managing Debian bugs

2002-12-28 Thread Mark Howard
Hi,
Thanks to everyone for the off-list support.
The screenshot url was wrong. It should of course have been:
http://tildemh.com/tmp/debbuggtk/20021227.png.

A lot of my efforts have been enhancing the Java-Gnome bindings (I am a
member of the upstream development team). There have particularly been
problems with free jre's not functioning properly (or at least not in
the generally expected manner); and also Blackdown java (as used by the
rest of the java-gnome team) not working in Debian at the moment. The
bugwatcher application does function, however there are a number of
issues with text entries which make them run incredibly slowly with
kaffe (Apparently Blackdown 1.4.1 works fine; other free jvms don't work
at all, mostly due to jni problems)

I have been trying to make the code reusable as far as possible. In
particular, the bug listing widget and bug report widget may be used
wherever wanted - this is demonstrated by the separate buglister and
bugviewer apps. Hopefully in the future it will be possible to use these
in other places, possibly a graphical bug reporting tool.

In terms of the code and bts interaction, all it does at the moment is
download the web pages with bug reports in them and then parses them (in
a very crude manner). My aims were to get something which works with the
current system before looking into changes in the bts. Being able to
change bug reports is quite far down on the list of todo items at the
moment - I want a stable bugwatcher tool first.
I have not contacted doogie regarding his work at rewriting debbugs, but
I'll probably look into it now.

I won't post tarballs or packages up at the moment - they depend on
newer java-gnome libraries than what is currently available in the
repository. java-gnome builds currently fail part way through due to
problems in the libgnome-java section (it is still all under
development), so I can't upload updated packages. I will do so in a few
days, by which time java-gnome should be buildable and I will have also
done more work on bugwatcher.

Thanks for the support.

wnpp ITP ping and cleanup

2002-12-28 Thread Bas Zoetekouw
Hi!

I've waded through some old (1y open) wnpp ITP bugs. I've retitled the
following bugs to RFPs, because they were pinged and there was no
response:

94371 RFP: NeTraMet -- accounting meter
96103 RFP: protux -- ProTools-like Digital Audio Workstation
97197 RFP: freeside -- billing and account admin package for ISP's
67 RFP: loop-aes -- AES cipher loadable Linux kernel module
112118 RFP: python-visual -- A Python library for 3d visualization
112478 RFP: thoteditor -- customizable editor for structured documents
115368 RFP: xmlrpclib -- Python implementation of the XML-RPC protocol

The bugs below were pinged (pung?). If no response is recorded in the
BTS in, say, a months from now, I'll also retitle them to RFPs.

Description : Small daemon that creates virtual hosts simulating their =
services and behaviour

Long description:
(From the freshmeat page:
http://freshmeat.net/projects/honeyd)

Honeyd is a small daemon that creates virtual hosts on a network. The
hosts can be configured to run arbitrary services, and their TCP
personality can be adapted so that they appear to be running certain
versions of operating systems. Honeyd enables a single host to claim
multiple addresses on a LAN for network simulation. It is possible to ping
the virtual machines, or to traceroute them. Any type of service on the
virtual machine can be simulated according to a simple configuration file.
Instead of simulating a service, it is also possible to proxy it to
another machine.=20

Bug#174555: O: cle -- Wrap any command-line driven tool with readline

2002-12-28 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: wnpp

The current maintainer of cle, Greg Stark [EMAIL PROTECTED], is
apparently not active anymore. Therefore, I orphan this package now.
If you want to be the new maintainer, please take it -- retitle this
bug from 'O:' to 'ITA:', fix the outstanding bugs and upload a new

Description: Wrap any command-line driven tool with readline
This handy tool lets you use history and line-editing in any text oriented
tool. This is especially usefully with third-party commercial tools that
cannot be modified to use readline themselves. It's not perfect but it works
 pretty well.

Justification: Has been inactive for several months, other packages
have been hijacked; cle only had one MU (the initial upload) and two
NMUs since then.

Sleepycat have released version 4.0.14 of Berkeley db. Looking it over,
it will probably require being a new package :-(. So consider yourselves
warned. I intend to work with Sleepycat so we don't have to create new
packages every time.

(This is really an Intent To Package [ITP] 'links', Intent To Rename [ITR]
'links' to 'elinks', Intent To Get Rid [ITGR] of 'links-ssl' and Intent To
Figure Out Whether 'links' with SSL Could Be Included Into Main
[ITFOWCBIIM].)

I'm the maintaner of the packages links{,-ssl}, which is a text mode browser
(as probably many of you already noticed) supporting plenty of interesting
stuff like colors, tables, frames, and so on. (Not ncurses, though, as some
around think.)

A while ago there were a fork from the original 'links' tree because the
development virtually stopped, bugs were not getting fixed, new features
were not included (despite the patches people submitted). I waited a while
but nothing happened (and the open bugs accumulated), so I decided to switch
over the fork which contained fixes and features, and what was named in the
meantime as 'ELinks' (enhanced links).

The 'links' development seem to be okay-like now, bugs actually get fixed.

In a recent discussion with ELinks' author we concluded that while the
codebase is of common roots, changing rapidly to make the gap wider between
the two versions, and it is not expected that the two version will ever get
closer to one another.

Links' goal is stability without too much features, while ELinks favour
bugs fixed and features implemented, like ipv6, cookies, bookmarks,
embedded programming language and more. I was politely asked by several
Debian developers to consider splitting these packages, and put they in
their respective packages where they belong.

Doing that raised another question which I am not able to answer due the
fuzzy discussions all around: can I discard 'links-ssl' (and possible
'elinks-ssl') and simply include SSL-enabled versions in main? There are
several SSL-enabled packages in main but the policy (as far as my eyes
serve me right) still seem to deny this. Anyone feeling authoritative
regarding this?

ps: only after woody released, I think.

pps: If you think this is all too simple, I'll share with you the fact that
links 2.xx will contain graphics and javascript support. But as far as I

* Package name: fontilus
  Version : 0.1
Upstream Author : James Henstridge [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/fontilus/
* License : GPL
Description : graphical font management tool for GNOME

Fontilus is a tool for managing your installed fonts; it is
implemented as set of extensions for the Nautilus file manager. This
allows you to easily view installed fonts (including previews), and
to drag-and-drop new fonts, and have them immediately installed on
your system. Fontilus is split into a number of components:
 .
  - libfont-method: a gnome-vfs method implementing the fonts:/// URI
scheme.
  - gnome-thumbnail-font: a program to render a small preview of a
font. Uses a custom stream implementation, so can render fonts
from arbitrary gnome-vfs URIs (provided the file can be openned in
random access mode). For example, it can render files in
fonts:///
  - gnome-font-viewer: a simple program to display info about a font
and render some of the glyphs.

Description : high level programming interface for IEEE1394 digital camera

This is a shared library for using IEEE1394 digital camera.

This is a new version of libdc1394 whose API is different from the
existing libdc1394-8 Debian package. I think libdc1394 0.9.0-2 can
coexist with the old libdc1394-8, because its major version of shared
library is changed from libdc1394-8.
