I intend to package mod_log_spread and to find sponsor.

Source: mod-log-spread

Package: libapache-mod-log-spread
Description: apache distributed log method.
mod_log_spread was created to allow ease of management of log files for
large web farms. Maintaining local log files across 10's or 100's of hosts
is a huge time drag and a sizeable performance hit. Centralized logging
allows for single point monitoring of all web traffic. Multicasting allows
for multiple redundant log listeners/writers to be brought up dynamically
with no performance impact or re-configuration. mod_log_spread was written
 as a patch/enhancement to Apache's mod_log_config which supplied a perfect
and complete framework on which to build out the desired functionality.

Package: spreadlogd
Description: distributed log daemon.

Upstream ignored me since 2 years, he never implemented my fixes
His old fashioned programming-type is out of date. IF theres a new
upstreamversion i have to rewrite it. The only reason for me
to make a deb was his wap support, he dropped this also, so it makes
no sense to keep hundrets webmailprogramm on ftp.
http://www.basilix.org looks also unmaintained. since 14.1.2002,
no changes there. If somebody want adopt this, newer fixed versions and
packages are under p.d.o/~amu/basilix/ available.

If nobody want adopt it, i suggest remove the package after a period
of 3 month.

I request an adopter for the vdr package. Due to lack of time, missing
hardware, etc. etc.

The package description is:
Video Disk Recorder (VDR) is a digital sat-receiver program using
Linux and DVB-S technologies. It allows one to record MPEG2 streams,
as well as output the stream to TV. It is also possible to watch DVDs
(hardware accelerated) with some comfort and use a IR remote control.
 .
This package contains files shared by different VDR versions and
 frontends.
NOTE: You should install compatible DVB drivers before using these
 programs.

Hi folks,

this is a non-standard way of doing this, but I will just try. Due to
lack of time in the comming weeks (and generally sinking interest in
maintianing stuff), I look for new maintainers for the following
packages.

General rules: The one who comes first gets the package. I wanna keep
the right to NMU if I discover any problems in them later.

List:

Allegro and packages based on it. Idealy for someone with experience in
library packaging:
allegro-demo-data(1)
allegro4(5)
liquidwar(2)
wing(2)
stax(1)

For boot-floppies (Oskuro):
cfdisk-utf8(1)
kernel-image-2.4.18-i386bf(2)

Various Kernel-Modules:
cdfs-src(1)
ftpfs(2)
dvb(4)

Needed work: figure out details of the module-packaging-policy and make
the packages compliant.

Rest:

emelfm(1)
icewm-themes(1)
kernel-image-2.2.20-udma100-ext3-i386(2)
kernel-patch-ethernet-drivers(1)
kernel-patch-ext3-2.2(1)
kernel-patch-ppscsi-2.4(1)
nvtv(1)
pppoeconf(1)
vdr(5)
kvdr(1)
videogen(1)
unp(1)
aumix(2)
cdrtools(4)

Gruss/Regards,
Eduard.

Bug#175266: ITP: dchroot -- Tools for creating and maintaining chroots on Debian machines.

2003-01-04 Thread Junichi Uekawa

In the future I'd like to add some scripts that make creating various
chroots painless (call to debootstrap perhaps excluding certain
packages, mount -o bind, symlinks for /etc/resolve.conf and friends,
etc.) I keep a variety of chroots on my machines at home and I'd like
to make it simple for others to do the same.

I'd rather like creation scripts integrated with pbuilder, so that we have
some integrated environment, if pbuilder sources and its configuration
files are doing fine...

junichi

Bug#174494: debbuggtk

2003-01-04 Thread Mark Howard
Hi,
I'm in the process of uploading packages and sources for
libdebbug-java and debbuggtk to http://www.tildemh.com/tmp/debbuggtk

I'd love to hear any suggestions you have.
I'm just emailing the itp and people who showed interest at the moment;
don't want to add too much junk to the mailing lists (especially if it
turns out that there's a big bug in it, but there shouldn't be). If you
want me to let you know of new versions in the future, please ask and
I'll try to remember. I don't want to upload official packages until the
quality is much better.

Note that they require the latest java-gnome libraries (20030103),
currently in incoming. Provided programs:

bugviewer bug number
- this will download and display a bug report.
buglister source|maint|submitter|binary package name
- this downloads and displays a package listing. Clicking on an item
will open it in bugviewer
bugwatcher
- this is my main application. In the top left, there is a list of
'watched' items. This can be added to using the buttons underneath it.
When one is clicked, that packages listing is loaded in the right. This
can be updated by clicking the refresh button (it will also be done on
program start, but this is currently commented out). The filter box for
the listings is a complete spoof at the moment - sorry. When you click
on an item in the listing, the full report should be loaded at the
bottom. There are problems with parsing a number of bug reports - I
probably won't fix these as I'd prefer to spend time thinking about an
xml machine readable interface to the bts. There is another refresh
button for the bug report. The edit button just gives a mock up page at
the moment.

Issues:
- only works with kaffe. Java-GNOME does work for other people with
other jre's (such as sablevm, gij, blackdown java), but I've had no
success. Also, natively compiled code does not seem to work either.
- kaffe is slow. It's a fact that kaffe's JNI code is slow. Hopefully
this will be fixed with newer gij, or possibly natively compiled code.
- text entry and viewing is incredibly slow. I have no idea why. Most
probably due to the Java problems
- no GNOME support. This means we cannot have gconf, menus, toolbars or
statusbars.

Big TODO items:
- Status: Highlight bugs which are new of have had comments added to
them. Show a count in the watched list. Possibly highlight all bugs
where the user has commented on them.
- ListingReport filters. a quick and easy way to search bug reports.
Also having more advanced things such as limiting by tags, severity,
owner...
- ListingReport: option of more columns (checkboxes for each tag for
example). Simple menu for switching each on/off. (This may not be
necessary if the filters are as useful as I hope)
- bugviewer: possibly use html to display the items. Maybe on one page.
Not really sure about this yet.
- Colin Watson has added a Last-Modified: header to bugreport.cgi which
works on HTTP HEAD requests. I can't manage to read this at present.
when I do, bug reports should only be downloaded when needed.
- more intelligent removal of items from cache (e.g. bugs which have
been closed)
- pseudo package support
- bug edit: load current values generate an email for output. I don't
like the ui at present - comments appreciated.

- converting to work with the new debbug rewrite. I think this mainly
involves working on a machine readable cgi for the server and a parser
for this. Should probably look into it more though.

I hope you manage to get this to work. Please let me know if you have
any problems. As I've said already, we're using kaffe at the moment
which does make it very slow - this will be fixed in the future. Other
Java-GNOME developers have reported performance at almost the same as
standard gtk, when using other jres.

I have to ask, if this hasn't been needed previously, is there really
any point in adding it to the archive now? Kerberos 4 is legacy
technology that every site I know either has dropped or is in the
process of dropping. Do you have a specific application where
Authen::Krb5 is insufficient?

His old fashioned programming-type is out of date. IF theres a new

to make a deb was his wap support, he dropped this also, so it makes
no sense to keep hundrets webmailprogramm on ftp.
http://www.basilix.org looks also unmaintained. since 14.1.2002,
no changes there. If somebody want adopt this, newer fixed versions and
 packages are under p.d.o/~amu/basilix/ available.

If nobody want adopt it, i suggest remove the package after a period
 of 3 month.

If the package has as many problems as you say it does, why be so
generous? Why not file against ftp.debian.org directly, requesting its
removal from the archive? As you say, Debian doesn't need hundreds of
webmail programs.

lots of people ask me, why there isnt any new version, Maybe upstream thought,
i redesign his software, while he`s sitting in a bar.
My answer was, do nothing more for him. I think, i was enough patient, if
somebody
feel to be Mr. Basilix and his livejob is, talking monologes, to upstream, he
can try it. Also possible he filter my mail :) I know also, in his contry he has
a hard time and a kind of their national nature, do once a time something and

Bug#162159: Upstream is well debianized already

2003-01-04 Thread Johannes Rohr
The upstream offers a .deb for download and the source is quite well
debianized, builds cleanly (although I don't have a pbuilder to make a
real test.) It should take very few effort to get workrave into debian,
albeit it might make sense to wait for the next release which includes
system tray support, more translations etc.

Bug#175373: ITP: whatsnewfm -- A utility to filter the daily newsletter from freshmeat.net

2003-01-04 Thread Christian Garbs
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2003-01-05
Severity: wishlist

  Package name: whatsnewfm
  Version : 0.6.0-2
Upstream Author : Christian Garbs [EMAIL PROTECTED]
  URL : http://www.cgarbs.de/whatsnewfm.en.html
  License : GPL
Description : A utility to filter the daily newsletter from freshmeat.net

whatsnewfm is a utility to filter the daily newsletter from
freshmeat.net

The main purpose is to cut the huge newsletter to a smaller size by
only showing items that you didn't see before.

The items already seen will be stored in a database. After some time,
the items expire and will be shown again the next time they are
included in a newsletter.

If you find an item that you consider particularly useful, you can add
it to a hot list. Items in the hot list are checked for updates so
that you don't miss anything about your favourite programs.

Debian packages are available here (it's already finished):
http://home.t-online.de/home/dietmar.garbs/download/whatsnewfm/0.6.0/

I'm going to look for a sponsor on -mentors.

I'd rather not, as those scripts can be useful outside of pbuilder

In fact, pbuilder already does the job of creating a chroot image,
so it should really be trivial.
If it is useful without pbuilder, it can be split up,
but I don't see much value in splitting it up, because
it is so small.

junichi.
