netRhythmbox is a very easy to use music playing and management program
which supports a wide range of audio formats (including mp3 and ogg).
The current version also supports playing CDs and Internet Radio.
 .
Development at the moment is quite rapid, and future versions will
 have even more features, including:
  - Metadata (tag) editing and automatic assignment
  - Audio CD burning
  - Visualization
 .
This package differs from the "rhythmbox" package in that it is a
 different branch of development.

Bug#154098: Should this be even kept in debian

Is there even a reason to keep this package in debian? Gnat is now
integrated with gcc and maintained in debian by the Debian GCC team.

Bug#181009: ITP: koffice-i18n -- i18n files for koffice

2003-02-14 Thread Ben Burton

> * Package name: koffice-i18n

Hi. The situation with koffice i18n stuff is a bit unclear; in
particular, it has been included in kde-i18n at various times in the
past, though it doesn't seem to be at the moment.

There was a short thread on debian-kde regarding koffice i18n stuff
(http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2002/debian-kde-200209/msg00262.html)
that might also be worth reading.

Specifically the choice needs to be made between a single koffice-i18n
package, lots of little koffice-i18n-foo packages and simply putting
koffice-i18n stuff in the little kde-i18n packages. Each of which are
bad solutions (respectively: massive package to download if you just want
a single translation, massive package splitting and different upstream
release cycles).

It might be worth discussing this a little on debian-kde to decide the
best way to handle this (I'm personally in favour of putting the koffice
i18n stuff in the little kde-i18n-foo packages that already exist, but
that means quite a bit more hassle for the kde-i18n maintainer).

Anyway, thanks for taking this up. :)

Ben.

Okay, my apologies.

But now I have contacted you: how do you wish to proceed? I can make the
changes and put the package on my own website for you to examine, if that
suits you.

This name is very much in conflict with widespread use of Distributed
Authoring and Versioning (RFC2518, aka WEBDAV). For example:

libapache-mod-dav - A DAV module for Apache
libapache2-dav-svn - Apache module for Subversion - in development, alpha
libhttp-dav-perl - HTTP:DAV - WebDAV client library for Perl.
python-davlib - WebDAV client library for Python
sitecopy - A program for managing a WWW site via FTP, DAV or HTTP
xsitecopy - A program for managing a WWW site via FTP, DAV or HTTP(GNOME
version)

A name change would be a small but significant contribution to the
namespace.

Bug#179804: PPM compression algorithms. (fwd)

Subject: Re: PPM compression algorithms.

Hi guys, a few notes :

PPMZ was never really intended for direct use in production software;
it's more of a test-bed. For example, it was never really optimized.
Malcolm Taylor took a lot of the ideas of PPMZ and put them in RKive,
which is very fast. Also, the so-called "PPMd" and PPMii are based on
PPMZ, and are more finely tweaked and optimized.

PPMii is very good; it's similar to PPMZ but tweaked and improved in
various ways. The biggest difference is that he is doing a bit of
"Context mixing and blending" across contexts which are not directly
linked in the Markov chain.

PPMd - I don't think there are any actual papers on. This is NOT the
"PPMD" algorithm of Bill Teahan, so it's somewhat mis-named. I believe
it's very similar to PPMZ, but with some tweaks and special custom support
for text files and binaries.

>Charles Bloom: Do you know why PPMd is performing better? Do you have any

I'm no longer actively working in compression; I haven't really touched the
PPMZ's in several years. In modern stuff, PPMd is obviously good. The
primary algorithms in this area are PPMZ and PPMii ; there are implementations
like BOA and PPMonstr that are very good, and many more.

Bug#159302: mcvs in Debian - are you still interested?

2003-02-14 Thread Robin Verduijn
Hi,

I noticed you offered to package Meta-CVS for Debian in September last year.
What is your current status? Are you still willing to become the maintainer?

I'm asking because I've been building mcvs packages for personal use for a
few months now and since they're pretty usable now I was thinking about
maintaining it for Debian. I won't do anything unless you let me, though,
since you filed an ITP first :)

There is indeed a metacity theme (which is in fact Koynacity blue), and
the icons for nautilus are the most interesting part (as they are all in
SVG format).

Bug#174853: I'll adopt this package, if no-one objects

2003-02-14 Thread Jamie Wilkinson
retitle 174853 ITA: grep-dctrl -- grep Debian package information
thanks

Antti-Juhani,

I see no-one has yet volunteered to adopt this package. I've looked
through the bugs list, and I think I'll be able to close them all. You've
done a good job with this package though, nothing tougher than `normal' ;-)

So, if you don't object, I'll upload a new package with you as an Uploader
as per your request soon.
