Full featured archiver with support for differential backups, slices, compression, ATTR/ACL support. DAR also supports Pipes for remote operations, including with ssh. Before I package this for Debian, some issues remain: - The Makefile needs a minor, but manual, modification to compile on alpha. - The Author recommends linking with -static, so restoration programs will work without extra libraries. I haven't decided if this is a good idea or not, if it needs to be applied to all binaries. lintian gets upset if my package contains static binaries. - My version is compiled with ATTR (EA) support, however, DAR gets very verbose if the filesystem doesn't support ATTRs (IMHO errors of type "Operation not supported" need to be ignored). These warnings will disappear if the -Uu flags are used (don't archive ATTRs). - ssh can be used for backups (just pipe the data via ssh to the destination file), for incremental backups (generate catalog at server and send it to client first). However, I am not certain about restores (client requires 2 pipes to server, one in each direction; this makes me nervous about potential deadlocks). In fact, I am not sure how this can be done, dar_slave needs to be run on the server, dar needs to be run on the client. STDOUT from dar needs to go to STDIN on dar_slave and vice versa. Any comments on the above? If anybody is interested, I can place my package online for testing before I upload it to Debian. -- System Information Debian Release: 3.0 Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux snoopy 2.4.19 #1 Wed Oct 30 11:36:54 EST 2002 i686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE= --- Received: (at 174525-close) by bugs.debian.org; 6 Mar 2003 07:08:25 + >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Mar 06 01:08:25 2003 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from auric.debian.org [206.246.226.45] (mail) by master.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.12 1 (Debian)) id 18qpUN-000339-00; Thu, 06 Mar 2003 01:08:23 -0600 Received: from rdonald by auric.debian.org with local (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 18qpK3-0006Qh-00; Thu, 06 Mar 2003 01:57:43 -0500 From: Brian May <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: lisa $Revision: 1.21 $ Subject: Bug#174525: fixed in dar 1.2.1-2 Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sender: Randall Donald <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Thu, 06 Mar 2003 01:57:43 -0500 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of dar, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: dar-static_1.2.1-2_i386.deb to pool/main/d/dar/dar-static_1.2.1-2_i386.deb dar_1.2.1-2.dsc to pool/main/d/dar/dar_1.2.1-2.dsc dar_1.2.1-2.tar.gz to pool/main/d/dar/dar_1.2.1-2.tar.gz dar_1.2.1-2_i386.deb to pool/main/d/dar/dar_1.2.1-2_i386.deb A summary of the changes between this

Bug#183638: Debian intents to package deco
Dear developers! Your program `deco' found to be helpful for the Debian Community, and it's goint to be packaged by Lenart Janos <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> under the following package: deco. We hope you like this idea, but if you don't, please tell us, and so if you do! There will no any Debian packages appear in the archive from it before you agree to package this piece of software. If you agree, there will be some things I will request from you, like: If there are more than one upstream author please name one who will be the upstream maintainter. All of my future mails will go to him/her. I will send him the bugreports, and some other information too. It would be very good if the upstream maintainer would send me a mail every time he/she release a new version of the program, so I can update the package in Debian. If you have any comments, feel free to tell me. Sincerely yours, -- Lenart, Janos <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> pgp796KiBbbC1.pgp Description: PGP signature

Several of my upstreams are multiple people with a mailing list for coordination, and it causes no problem at all. Cheers, -- Colin Watson [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This makes sense since many users have objections to use the same password for (as an example) the IMAP4 mailbox and the SSH access. The IMAP4 password should be distinct from the SSH password since the user wants to save the former in the configuration of his mail agent, but not the latter. The same applies to POP3 mailboxes, FTP and ccomparable services. -- System Information Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux whiskey 2.4.20 #1 Fre Jan 17 21:04:25 CET 2003 i686 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]
