Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2002-12-28
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: dar
  Version : 1.2.0
  Upstream Author : Denis Corbin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://dar.linux.free.fr/
* License : GPL
Description : Disk ARchive: Backup directory tree and files.

Full featured archiver with support for differential backups, slices,
compression, ATTR/ACL support. DAR also supports Pipes for remote
operations, including with ssh.

Before I package this for Debian, some issues remain:

- The Makefile needs a minor, but manual, modification to compile on alpha.

- The Author recommends linking with -static, so restoration programs
will work without extra libraries. I haven't decided if this is a good
idea or not, if it needs to be applied to all binaries. lintian
gets upset if my package contains static binaries.

- My version is compiled with ATTR (EA) support, however, DAR gets very
verbose if the filesystem doesn't support ATTRs (IMHO errors of type
"Operation not supported" need to be ignored). These warnings
will disappear if the -Uu flags are used (don't archive ATTRs).

- ssh can be used for backups (just pipe the data via ssh to the
destination file), for incremental backups (generate catalog at server
and send it to client first). However, I am not certain about restores
(client requires 2 pipes to server, one in each direction; this makes
  me nervous about potential deadlocks).

In fact, I am not sure how this can be done, dar_slave needs
to be run on the server, dar needs to be run on the client.
STDOUT from dar needs to go to STDIN on dar_slave and vice
  versa.

Any comments on the above?

If anybody is interested, I can place my package online
for testing before I upload it to Debian.

Description : port of GNOME Canvas back to gtk+

This is a straight port of the GNOME Canvas from the stable gnome-libs
1.2.4 back to gtk+. The widget is called GtkCanvas.

This widget behaves identically to the GnomeCanvas widget, with the
same APIs, except the names are changed from gnome_canvas to
gtk_canvas. Thus you can use the GNOME documentation on this widget.
The test-gtkcanvas program in the test directory can serve as a
starting point on learning to use the widget.

Description : Creates TeX files from Go game records

Go is a board game from Eastern Asia and TeX is a program for typesetting.
sgf2tex converts Go game records in smart-go format (SGF) into TeX files.
You can produce camera-ready copies for books or magazines, or
simply generate attractive printouts of your (internet) Go games.

sgf2tex includes the Metafont sources for a new set of Go fonts,
a script which translates files in sgf-format into TeX,
and a script which provides support for handling variations.

A first version of the package can be downloaded from
http://www-ag-mayer.informatik.uni-kl.de/~dietrich/sgf2tex/

Description : ttf library for Simple DirectMedia Layer with FreeType 2

This is a sample library which allows you to use TrueType fonts in your
SDL applications. It's the successor of libsdl-ttf1.2 and uses FreeType 2
font engine instead of FreeType 1.

Would be useful to have this library as it doesn't depend on oldlibs
libttf2.

Bug#183638: Debian intents to package deco

2003-03-06 Thread Lenart Janos
Dear developers!

Your program `deco' found to be helpful for the Debian Community,
and it's goint to be packaged by Lenart Janos <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> under
the following package: deco.

We hope you like this idea, but if you don't, please tell us, and so if
you do! There will no any Debian packages appear in the archive from it
before you agree to package this piece of software.

If you agree, there will be some things I will request from you, like:
If there are more than one upstream author please name one who will be
the upstream maintainter. All of my future mails will go to him/her. I
will send him the bugreports, and some other information too. It would
be very good if the upstream maintainer would send me a mail every
time he/she release a new version of the program, so I can update the
package in Debian.

If you have any comments, feel free to tell me.

Sincerely yours,

This is a strange requirement. Why not just ask for one e-mail address?
Several of my upstreams are multiple people with a mailing list for
coordination, and it causes no problem at all.

Cheers,

pam_dotfile is a PAM module which allows users to have more than one
password for a single account, each for a different service. This
makes sense since many users have objections to use the same password
for (as an example) the IMAP4 mailbox and the SSH access. The IMAP4
password should be distinct from the SSH password since the user wants
to save the former in the configuration of his mail agent, but not the
latter. The same applies to POP3 mailboxes, FTP and ccomparable services.

Are there currently applications that use this library, or are you
ITPing the library alone?

The separate -dev packages seem like unnecessary Packages bloat, IMHO.
I'm assuming that these -dev packages don't conflict with each other,
as is the case with libqt?
