Bug#192816: ITP: python-numarray -- An array processing package modelled after Python-Numeric
Package: wnpp Version: N/A; reported 2003-05-10 Severity: wishlist * Package name: python-numarray Version : 0.5 Upstream Author : Various * URL : http://www.stsci.edu/resources/software_hardware/numarray * License : see below Description : The "sucessor" for python-numeric. Numarray is a set of extensions to the Python programming language which allows Python programmers to efficiently manipulate large sets of objects organized in grid-like fashion. These sets of objects are called arrays, and they can have any number of dimensions. . This is a reimplementation of the earlier Numeric module (aka numpy). For the most part, the syntax of numarray is identical to that of Numeric, although there are significant differences. The differences are primarily in new features. This package should be regarded as obsoleted by either the winbind or the libpam-krb5 package. It is a developmental dead-end, with an inactive upstream, and its attempt to provide NT domain-style authentication without the cooperation of the NT domain admins (to say nothing of permitting the user to make his security dependent on a Win9x machine) results in a fragile model that's vulnerable to MITM attacks. I see no reason why anyone should still be using this PAM module, nor why anyone should be given an opportunity to adopt it. If you want to be the new maintainer, please take it -- fix the outstanding bugs and upload a new version with your name in the Maintainer: field. Some information about this package: Package: youbin Priority: optional Section: mail Installed-Size: 123 Maintainer: Masato Taruishi <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Architecture: i386 Version: 2.13-12 Depends: libc6, libc6 (>= 2.1) Suggests: youbin-client, xyoubin Filename: dists/potato/main/binary-i386/mail/youbin_2.13-12.deb Size: 53286 MD5sum: 3600aaf77231f4216f4709b4af25faa7 Description: The conventional mail arrival notification server. Youbin is a kind of biff in the network age. When youbin is used, the mail spool of a certain, specific machine (mail server) is observed to inform the arrival of mail to a user at an arbitrary machine through the network. On the other hand, the conventional "biff" informs only the user who logs in at the machine with the mail spool. Combining with POP, youbin eliminate a lot of NFS mount of mail spool for mail arrival checking. . Since youbin is designed with event driven, the user is promptly informed of status change of mail spool caused by mail arriving and reading. -- Martin Michlmayr [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- Received: (at 88986-done) by bugs.debian.org; 10 May 2003 05:17:57 + >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat May 10 00:17:55 2003 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from bangpath.uucico.de [195.71.9.197] by master.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.12 1 (Debian)) id 19EMk7-0002ba-00; Sat, 10 May 2003 00:17:55 -0500 Received: by bangpath.uucico.de (Postfix, from userid 10) id 52E6726B24; Sat, 10 May 2003 07:17:54 +0200 (CEST) Received: by regression.cyrius.com (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 3377F23D48; Sat, 10 May 2003 15:16:51 +1000 (EST) Date: Sat, 10 May 2003 15:16:51 +1000 From: Martin Michlmayr <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Re: Upcoming removal of orphaned packages] Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.4i Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-13.1 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_20,SIGNATURE_LONG_SPARSE,USER_AGENT_MUTT autolearn=ham version=2.53-bugs.debian.org_2003_05_09 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.53-bugs.debian.org_2003_05_09 (1.174.2.15-2003-03-30-exp) This package has been removed from Debian so I'm closing the WNPP bug. - Forwarded message from Martin Michlmayr <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> - From: Martin Michlmayr <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: Upcoming removal of orphaned packages Date: Sat, 10 May 2003 15:00:48 +1000 To: debian-devel@lists.debian.org User-Agent: Mutt/1.4i As an update to my d-d-a posting from a few weeks ago, the following packages were removed a while ago: chpp -- a powerful and simple preprocessor [#88986] doc-linux-zh-text -- Linux HOWTO in Chinese [#130150] dot-forward -- .forward compatibility for qmail [#68638] dstooltk -- dynamical systems investigation (Tk version) [#68311] dstooltk-doc -- dynam

I'm not able to change the maintainer field and to upload a new version. debian directory is actually maintained in upstream CVS repository, so who intends to adopt libcomprex can ask him if a new CVS access is available. The package description is: The libcomprex library transparently handles automatic compression and decompression of files. The API is similar to C's built-in file access functions, which provides a smooth transition to libcomprex. libcomprex can also open uncompressed files, making it a good replacement for the native file access functions. . Contains the symlinks, headers, and object files needed to compile and link programs which use the libcomprex library. . I think this may have been obsoleted by SANE...at least, I previously used this program, and now use the hp driver with SANE, which provides everything I need. -- - mdz
Bug#188998: intend to adopt calc, so does someone else--need advice
* Gunnar Wolf <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [2003-05-09 23:31]: > over the country - Some are to lure people into Free Software, some > (with more technical audiences) are to promote applying for NM. In fact, Please don't promote applying for NM. Promote doing work instead. After people have done excellent work for a while, they can apply for NM. -- Martin Michlmayr [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Just FYI... Finally Mexico has also a DD in the team, which happens to be me ;-) And I am taking Bdale's advice as a rule: I am trying to get more people involved... This month I am giving 6 presentations (!) all over the country - Some are to lure people into Free Software, some (with more technical audiences) are to promote applying for NM. In fact, I think I will broadcast one of the conferences live with Icecast - Will keep you posted, in case someone is interested. It will be in Spanish, though, ;-) But... I hope it is useful.
