Bug#189062: IFP

2003-06-03 Thread junkio
The original submitter says the upstream provides a deb and
"it's just a matter of getting it into the main Debian archive."
I am afraid that it is not the case.

Although I like what IFP does, the deb distributed by the
upstream has some oddities which would make it unsuitable to be
included in the Debian archive. The glitches, which may well
come from the fact that this is not a native Deb but an alien
conversion from an RPM, include:

 - Small number of docs are scattered across /usr/share/doc/ifp
   and /usr/share/doc/ifp-1.1 directories.

 - Man pages are in /usr/man not in /usr/share/man

 - Binaries are in /usr/bin not in /usr/games

 - Binaries are not stripped

 - Ships static libraries lib{cheapglk,glkterm,xglk}.a that is
   not part of IFP but of a separate upstream package,
   preventing later packaging of the GLK separately.

 - Same for /usr/include/glk.h and /usr/include/glkstart.h

At least the package should be split up to depend on a GLK
runtime library, which should be packaged separately.

Bug#195948: RFP: dspam -- advanced Bayesian anti-spam local delivery agent

2003-06-03 Thread Federico Sevilla III
Package: wnpp
Version: unavailable; reported 2003-06-03
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: dspam
  Version : 2.6.0.65
  Upstream Author : Network Dweebs Corporation <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.networkdweebs.com/software/dspam/
* License : GPL
  Description : advanced Bayesian anti-spam local delivery agent

DSPAM (as in De-Spam) is an open-source project to create a new kind of
anti-spam mechanism, and is currently effective as both a server-side
agent for UNIX email servers and a developer's library for mail clients,
other anti-spam tools, and similar projects requiring drop-in spam
filtering.

The DSPAM agent masquerades as the email server's local delivery agent
and filters/learns spams using an advanced Bayesian statistical approach
(based on Baye's theorem of combined probabilities) which provides an
administratively maintenance-free, easy-learning Anti-Spam service
custom tailored to each individual user's behavior. Advanced because on
top of standard Bayesian filtering is also incorporated the use of
Chained Tokens, de-obfuscation, and other enhancements. DSPAM works
great with Sendmail and Exim, and should work well with any other MTA
that supports an external local delivery agent (postfix, qmail, etc.)

  Description : Linux HOWTOs and mini-HOWTOs (non-free)

I'm preparing a non-free branch of the doc-linux packages, which I
currently maintain. It has been noted in the past that the licences on a
number of documents from the Linux Documentation Project are not
DFSG-free: typically these disallow commercial use, modification, or
both. The doc-linux-nonfree-html and doc-linux-nonfree-text binary
packages will contain these documents, and the existing doc-linux-html
and doc-linux-text binary packages will contain only DFSG-free
documents.

The copyright files of both the free and the non-free packages will be
automatically generated from a directory of licences found during the
licence audit I've recently completed.

Cheers,
