Bug#197141: ITP: ygraph -- Visualize one-dimensional scientific data

2003-06-12 Thread Daniel Kobras

  Version : 0.14
  Upstream Author : Denis Pollney <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.aei.mpg.de/~pollney/ygraph/

 The ygraph tool visualizes one-dimensional scientific data sets. It is
 an enhanced alternative to the xgraph utility and supports the same
 input format as xgraph. Additionally, ygraph features:
 .
  * animating multiple plots simultaneously and synchronously;
  * stepping back and forth through animations one frame at a time;
  * zooming, similar to xgraph but without opening a lot of new windows;
  * plotting derivatives;
  * subtracting plots;
  * convergence tests;
  * reading compressed files;
  * exporting images and animations.

I haven't had a need to use gnudip for some time now, so it's been left
unmaintained. Please take it over if you have a use for it :)

The package has no major bugs, but might need some work to split up into
a client and server package.

All,

I am not a debian developer but I will look at packaging this software
(since I have an nvidia card). Depending on how package/build friendly
it is I will package it.

If I decide not to package it I will write again. If it looks good I
will change this bug to an ITP.

Take care,

I intend to orphan the php-gtk package.
I don't have enogh time to manage this package.
I am really sorry but next months will be very
hard. I'll try to keep up with other packages I
maintain.

The package description is:
 PHP-GTK: PHP language bindings for GTK+ toolkit
 .
 PHP-GTK is a PHP extension that enables you to write
 client-side cross-platform GUI applications. This is the
 first such extension of this kind and one of the goals behind
 it was to prove that PHP is a capable general-purpose scripting
 language that is suited for more than just Web applications.
 .
 This extension will _not_ allow you to display GTK+ programs
 in a Web browser, and can be used in the Web environment
 only if you are running the webserver locally. It is intended
 for creating standalone GUI applications.

I think this should go into non-free at best. Or even better,
non-free/non-US. Unless some of these patents apply incountries
other than US. For example, MP3 encoders cannot be included in
Debian at all because of the patent problems.
