  Description : Reduces the latency of the Linux kernel

 This patch adds a far greater degree of real-time responsiveness to the
 standard Linux kernel, by finding "hot spots" in the scheduling code and
 trying to reduce their impact. It can get latencies down to 1 to 4 ms in
 most situations.

 It can be applied to the following Linux kernel sources:
 2.4.13, 2.4.14, 2.4.15, 2.4.16, 2.4.17, 2.4.18, 2.4.19, 2.4.20 and 2.4.21.

You mean something like:

Description: alternative to GNU autoconf source code configuration system

* lose the article
* lose the full stop
* do not capitalize the beginning of the description unless a proper
  noun, proper adjective, abbreviation, or acronym requires it
* I don't know what GNU/autoconf is.  Is that like GNU/Linux?

very happy you package it.

Bug#139475: packaging of oprofile

2003-06-25 Thread Al Stone
My apologies to everyone getting this email. Two
things happened yesterday that have now been fixed:

(1) I forgot a source code change going from 0.5.3
to 0.5.4 that kept the user-space programs from
being included in the package. Turned out to be
10 characters were missing.

(2) A server ran out of disk space, resulting in all
of the files that should have been there showing
up as zero length files.

Sorry about that. This has now been fixed. You
can pick up all of the oprofile files (source and
debs, i386 and ia64) by going to:

   http://free.linux.external.hp.com/~ahs3/oprofile

This is a _different_ site than in the last message.
Please ignore everything at the ftp.hp.com site; I'm
getting the oprofile files removed from there. Note
too that:

   http://free.linux.external.hp.com/~ahs3/prospect

contains the files for prospect, a performance analysis
tool that also uses oprofile.

If there's any questions or further bugs, please feel
free to let me know. I've got a couple of other
DD's that want to upload these into the archive but
I'd like to get more testing hours on them.

Here's a small script that I started to write a while back and never used
for much. It reads a file list on stdin and filters out files which are
unchanged from the packages available from apt. The idea would be to
generate a list of files to be backed up, and pipe it through this program
to reduce the size of the backup without losing local modifications. Maybe
it will have some useful ideas for you.

(aka LPRng)

PyKota is a complete Print Quota and Accounting Software Solution for
the Common UNIX Printing System (aka CUPS) and LPR Next Generation (aka
LPRng) on GNU/Linux and Unix-like operating systems, which offers a
great flexibility with regard to the page accounting methods it
supports. By default it works by directly querying the printers for the
number of pages they have printed, but you can easily plug your own page
accounting methods if you prefer.

The Aap program executes recipes. It is a kind of super-make program. In
a recipe you describe how to perform a certain task. Like a Makefile it
contains dependencies and build commands.
