Bug#210656: ITP: noip -- Dynamic DNS support using no-ip.com's service

How is this superior to ddclient or ez-ipupdate, both of which are
currently in the archive? Doesn't ddclient handle no-ip.com?

wnpp and bug owners

2003-09-12 Thread Colin Watson
So, we've now got bug ownership in the BTS, and it occurs that we could
use this productively to improve the way wnpp bugs are managed. Up to
now, when people "accept" an RFP or an RFA/O by retitling it to an ITP
or an ITA respectively, sometimes they change the submitter address and
sometimes they don't. Changing the submitter address has the
disadvantage that the original submitter never gets notified when the
new package is uploaded, and both have the disadvantage that the
prospective maintainer doesn't receive mails sent to the wnpp bug.

Bug ownership should solve this problem: people ITPing and ITAing
reports should set themselves as the owner of the bug, which is the same
as saying that they're taking responsibility for fixing it, and means
that they'll get mail about the bug. (Please do NOT set yourself as a
bug owner just to get this subscription property! We'll provide a
facility for that fairly soon.)

I'd like to commit the following patch to /devel/wnpp/. Any comments?

Package: jabber

Severity: wishlist

There is still a valid wishlist item for irc and other transports,
as well as for JUD.

I don't understand why bug number 98362 was closed, (rather than tagged
"wontfix", if you won't,) since this is the case.

Many of us *wish* for transports and JUD to be packaged for use with
jabberd; wishlist bugs filed indicate this. Since the wish is still
present, and has not been met, the wishlist bug is still valid. Think of
this bug as a placeholder, indicating our desires have still not been met.

Yeah. Avery's alive. I walked over and talked to him, and he's
willing to be your upstream. I'll take a look at your packages next
week, OK?

Are you also in the New Maintainer queue yet? It takes a long

Yes, I'm alive, just very busy. I'd rather someone else sponsored your
package, just because even the effort of looking at your patches may delay
the package indefinitely.

Description : Video deinterlacer plugins from the DScaler project
DScaler is a Win32 application that captures video, processes it, and
scales it for presentation. It implements highly sophisticated
algorithms that work in real-time, for high-quality video images.
 .
The libdscaler package contains Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs) from the
DScaler application. They are able to:
  * Deinterlace video source, from both cameras and console games;
  * Detect and remove 2:2 pulldown (PAL) and 3:2 pulldown (NTSC) for
movies and filmed television programs;
  * Reduce video noise on analog sources; and
  * Reduce jitter and other video timing anomalies.
 .
Currently, these libraries are used as plugins by the tvtime package,
 dynamically loaded using Wine.

There appears to be an existing ITP for this package already:

   http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=171693

Additionally, I seem to recall wondershaper behaving very badly with
stock Debian kernels (ie. no traffic accepted or transmitted) since the
stock kernels are missing some required options:

   http://mailman.ds9a.nl/pipermail/lartc/2002q4/005753.html

Perhaps these items should be addressed prior to packaging or some note
should be added to the package that these are needed.

Description : Perl module to find RFC 822 email addresses in arbitrary

Email::Find is a module for finding a *subset* of RFC 822 email
addresses in arbitrary text. The addresses it finds are not guaranteed
to exist or even actually be email addresses at all, but they will be
  valid RFC 822 syntax.

Email::Find will perform some heuristics to avoid some of the more
obvious red herrings and false addresses, but there's only so much
which can be done without a human.

I am packaging this to support a future release of HTML::FromText (2.x)
that will require it (I'm not going to upload the new version of
libhtml-fromtext-perl quite yet, though, 'cause I'm not convinced it's
stable).

  Upstream Author : bert hubert <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://lartc.org/wondershaper
* License : GPLv2
Description : An easy to use traffic shaping script

Wondershaper uses the tc traffic shaping commands to control download
and upload traffic, to minimize latency.

First, traffic is limited to perhaps 90% of line rate.
This prevents upstream buffers from filling with packets, which can
cause latency. This also leaves some space available for new connections.

Then, traffic is prioritized to send interactive (ssh) traffic and small
ACK packets thru first, before bulk file transfer traffic.

Upload and download traffic shaping is controled separately, which is
required for asymmetric connections such as cablemodems and DSL.

* URL : http://www.no-ip.com/
* License : GPLv2
Description : Dynamic DNS support using no-ip.com's service

no-ip.com offers dynamic DNS service, which is ideal for users
of computers connected 24x7 using dynamic DHCP ip addresses.

The client periodically connects to no-ip.com's DNS servers and
updates your domain name to point to your current temporary address.

no-ip.com offers FREE accounts if you use a subdomain of no-ip.com
(for example, vlm.no-ip.com)

For a minimal cost, no-ip.com also offers various other dynamic DNS
related services, such as using your own domain name instead of using
one of no-ip's subdomains.

One good example of how to use this service, is to register your DSL
connected PC using no-ip.com. Then, anywhere on the internet, you
can ssh to "yourname".no-ip.com, even if your DSL computer gets a
new DHCP address. No need to memorize today's DHCP address or wonder
if it has changed.

Description: A peer-to-peer network for anonymous publishing (unstable branch)
Freenet is a decentralised network of nodes designed to allow for efficient
distribution of information over the Internet. Freenet's goals are resilience
to censorship, and anonymity for producers and consumers of information
 through plausible denyability.
 .
This package provides the software necessary to run a Freenet node able to
take part in the network used by versions 0.4 to 0.6. Content can be inserted
and retrieved with a commandline tool, or via the HTTP gateway with any
 browser.
 .
This is a snapshot from the development branch.

2003-09-12 Thread Filippo Giunchedi
retitle 210394 ITA: netselect -- Choose the fastest server automatically.
thanks

I would like to adopt this package since I use it quite often, I'm not a DD so
I'm also searching for a sponsor (perhaps the old maintainer? Avery Pennarun?).
If this is a problem please feel free to orphan again netselect.

kind regards,
filippo.
