Bug#216035: RFA: linux-wlan-ng

2003-10-15 Thread Joey Hess
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I've switched over to the orinoco_pci driver in the 2.4.22 kernel, which
works reasonably well though it's experimental. Due to other work I do
not have time to continue maintaining this package.

I don't know if it will make sense to have this package in debian after
2.6 is out and/or the hostap drivers go into the 2.4.2x series, which I
think they might. wlan-ng and hostap serve fairly overlapping purposes.

This package has gotten me more user feedback than most, and most of
that seems to be interest in the precompiled kernel modules for the
stock debian kernels that I make available. I hope whoever takes the
package over will be willing to commit to contining to produce those
modules, or finding a migration path that will involve providing
support for the same cards with our stock kernels.

Bug#216031: ITP: rng-tools -- Daemon to use the hardware RNG on x86 motherboards

2003-10-15 Thread Andrew Schulman
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: rng-tools
  Version : 1.0
  Upstream Author : Jeff Garzik <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://sourceforge.net/projects/gkernel/
* License : GPL
  Description : Daemon to use a hardware RNG

This package provides rngd, a daemon that feeds data from a random number
generator to the kernel's random number entropy pool, after first checking
the data to ensure that it is properly random.

By default rngd gets its random data from /dev/hwrandom. /dev/hwrandom is
provided by the hw_random kernel module, which supports the hardware RNGs
in Intel, AMD and VIA CPUs, with recent chipsets. However, rngd can
collect its data from any suitably random source.

This package supersedes the intel-rng-tools package, which is no longer
being maintained.

Bug#214926: ITA: intel-rng-tools -- Daemon to use the RNG on i810 motherboards

2003-10-15 Thread Andrew Schulman
intel-rng-tools needs updating:

- intel-rng-tools have been renamed to rng-tools
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/gkernel).

- rng-tools is now available in version 1.0, which includes support
for AMD and VIA processors, as well as newer Intel 8xx chipsets.
(Most of this was probably available in v 0.9.1, but at least it needs
to be documented.)

- The package has exactly one outstanding bug. It's easily fixed by
updating the device name for the hardware RNG.

- The documentation is two years out of date and contains many
inaccuracies, e.g. in device names, kernel module names, and hardware
requirements.

- The existing package doesn't include the diagnostic tools randstat
and rngtest.

I have no particular familiarity with rngd, but I'm interested to
learn and would like to use it myself. So I'd like to bring the
package up to date.

Bug#215945: ITP: etw -- arcade-style soccer game

  Version : CVS
  Upstream Author : Gabriele Greco <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

  Description : arcade-style soccer game

 Eat The Whistle is an arcade soccer game similar to famous Amiga titles such
 as Kick Off or Sensible Soccer. It features several game modes where you can
 play either as the whole team or as a single player, and you can also manage
 teams that take part in cups and leagues. There is even an arcade mode with
 powerups and bonuses, like in the game SpeedBall 2.
 .
 Eat The Whistle features 30 different field types and numerous sound effects.
 The game is viewed from the side and can be controlled with either a joystick
 or the keyboard.
 .
 Most in-game settings are configurable, such as the pitch, weather and game
 daytime, which will impact on the gameplay. There is a replay mode that lets
 you load and save best moments, a game tactics editor, and teams from the
 game Sensible World of Soccer can be directly imported.

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: trang
  Version : 20030619
  Upstream Author : James Clark <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.thaiopensource.com/relaxng/trang.html
* License : BSD (with some Apache-licensed parts)
  Description : Multi-format schema converter based on RELAX NG

 Trang converts between different schema languages for XML. It
 supports the following languages:
 .
  * RELAX NG (XML syntax)
  * RELAX NG compact syntax
  * XML 1.0 Document Type Definitions (DTDs)
  * W3C XML Schema
 .
 A schema written in any of the supported schema languages can be
 converted into any of the other supported schema languages, except
 that W3C XML Schema is supported for output only, not for input.
 .
 Trang can also infer a schema from one or more example XML documents.
 .
 Trang is constructed around an RELAX NG object model designed to
 support schema conversion. For each schema language supported for
 input, there is an input module that can convert from the schema
 language into this internal object model. Similarly, for each schema
 language supported for output, there is an output module that can
 convert from the internal object model in the schema language.
 .
 Trang aims to produce human-understandable schemas; it tries for a
 translation that preserves all aspects of the input schema that may
 be significant to a human reader, including the definitions, the way
 the schema is divided into files, annotations and comments.
 .
 This package may be particularly useful for converting DTDs for use
 with nxml-mode, as that package requires RELAX NG schemas for the
 full features of its context-sensitive editing functions to be
 available.

This license as quoted does not grant permission to modify the document,
which is required for a license to meet the DFSG. Would it be possible
to get formal clarification on this point from upstream?

It'll only go into doc-linux if it's uploaded to the LDP. (Perhaps

I am not interested in adopting this package (it is too big and too buggy,
and I do not have much time right now), but I am particularly interested in
getting the PLplot support working in PDL (Bug#196185). Do you think that
an NMU would be appropriate? (N.B.: I am not going to fix the other bugs

Well, yes. Your right. The squashfs-tools doesn't contain kernel patch which
could be used with kernel-package. I don't plan to release separate package
with patches. I think it should be bug against squasfs-tools package, so I'll
fill it.
