Package maintaining

2004-03-19 Thread Méghazi Fabien
Hi,

I would like to become the package maintainer of two packages, one is already
in PP list, the other is not in any WNPP list (I contacted the author about
the license of his program) Anyway, I seached on debian web-site any
information about how to be a package maintainer, but I didn't found any
subscription form or something in order to fill an application. Can you halp
me about that ?

Thanks

Bug#238143: ITP: wzdftpd -- A portable, modular, efficient and not user-friendly ftp server

I agree, this has nothing to do in the .deb description - removed.

Well, i've not found any equivalent server in the existing, which
correspond to _all_ these features. Most scriptable servers are not
free, dynamic ip changes are generally not working, I've never seen
virtual directories working, only a very few of them are extensible,
etc.
IMHO the main feature is the online administration, you do not have to
get an account on the hosting server or to edit config files by hand,
all is configurable online.

That said, I agree the description does not reflect these features
correctly, that's why I'm tweaking it according to all your remarks.

>
> And is "security" really a feature? It ought to be implied.

Funny .. Implied the same as proftpd does ?
I am just saying we use regular audits on code to find vulnerabilities,
and that the server was written with security in mind.

All of this does not mean of course that the server is perfect in a
perfect world - that's just the directions we are taking in the
development.

Bug#133649: current state of cm-super

AFAIUI, Euler is the name of the mathematical font used in the book
_Concrete Mathematics_. The text fonts used in this book, designed by
Don Knuth and derived from Computer Modern (but looking rather
different), are called the Concrete fonts.

When you \usepackage{euler}, you are telling which mathematical font you
want to use (Euler). When you \usepackage{beton}, you are telling which
text font you want to use (Concrete, which is supposed to match Euler
well since it was precisely designed to go with Euler).

I suppose you are interested in Type 1 fonts for the T1 encoding. If you
want Euler, no problem. You can for instance \usepackage{lmodern} and
\usepackge{euler} at the same time. But you may find that the Computer
Modern (well, Latin Modern, which is supposed to be extremely close)
text font doesn't go very well with Euler. So, perhaps you want to use
another text font in T1 encoding and Type 1 format. If that font is
Concrete, then it is true that it is found in the cm-super package
(sform*.pfb, sfosl*.pfb, etc.) and not in lmodern.

Bug#238837: ITP: libapache2-mod-layout -- Apache2 web page content wrapper

2004-03-19 Thread Guus Sliepen
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libapache2-mod-layout
  Version : 4.0.1a
  Upstream Author : Brian Aker <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://tangent.org/index.pl?node_id=362
* License : BSD (but see below)
Description : Apache2 web page content wrapper

mod_layout allows you to create a single look and feel throughout a
website without using server side includes to "automagically" wrap pages
in standard headers and footers. It can be used to to add standard
disclaimers to all of the pages on a server, add banner ads, etc.

I already finished packaging, you can download it from
ftp://sliepen.eu.org/pub/libapache2-mod-layout/.

The upstream tarball does not contain licensing information, and on the
upstream website I could only find the text:

"You are pretty much free to use it as you please. The LICENSE is BSD
(basically the same as Apache's)."

See http://tangent.org/index.pl?&node_id=454. I'll mail the author and
ask him to be a bit more explicit.

Since it's primarily a news reader, I don't think I'd list it's mail

Beginning of the sentence should be capitalized, even when it's program name:

  Description : Minesweeper for GNUstep

GMines is the classic Minesweeper game for GNUstep. You must uncover all
the empty cases without blowing on a mine.
 .
When you uncover a case, a number appears: it indicates how many
mines surround this case. If there is no number the neighbour cases
are automatically uncovered. In your process of uncovering secure
cases, it is very useful to put a flag on the cases which contain a
 mine.

it's here if you want to test it:

Commons VFS provides a single API for accessing various different file
systems. It presents a uniform view of the files from various different

   different file systems.
 * Utilities for integrating Commons VFS into applications, such as a

Description : installed packages synchronization tool

debsync is a program which helps to synchronise the installed
packages on existing Debian GNU/Linux machines.
 .
debsync gets a list of installed packages from a master host, and
installs or removes packages on several hosts to match the master's
 package list.
 .
debsync can do its work either over ssh (default) or rsh.

A really useful tool (written in Python) that should have been written
long ago already. If nobody opposes, I'll upload shortly (in the hope
NEW will get unstuck soon).

Hi,

I'm withdrawing this ITP, in favour of #236496. debsync is too fragile
at the moment, I think pkgsync will do a better job.

Bug#238969: ITP: yast -- SUSE's system administration tool

2004-03-19 Thread Jaldhar H. Vyas
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: yast
  Version : undetermined
Upstream Author : The SUSE people
* URL : http://www.suse.com/
* License : GPL
Description : SUSE's system administration tool

You've probably heard the news that Novell is planning to open source
this. I think it would make a great addition to Debian as the only
other comparably easy administration frontend out there is webmin which
has its problems. So I wanted to get dibs on this though there will
probably be plenty of work needed to get it adapted to Debian and so
a team of comaintainers might be a good idea.

Bug#106840: What's happening with w3m-m17n?

2004-03-19 Thread Per Olofsson
Hi,

Is anything happening with this? w3m-m17n is really much better than
w3mmee, and I think it would be very nice to have it in Debian. Are
you planning to merge the patch into w3m anytime soon or would it be
better to create a separate package?
