Description : A Library for handling OpenType Font
The libotf library provides the following facilities:
   .
- Read Open Type Layout Tables from OTF file. Currently these
tables are supported; head, name, cmap, GDEF, GSUB, and GPOS.
- Convert a Unicode character sequence to a glyph code sequence by
  using the above tables.
   .
The combination of libotf and the FreeType library (Ver.2) realizes
CTL (complex text layout) by OpenType fonts.

Description : Interpreter for traffic control language

Using /sbin/tc (to configure Linux network traffic flow control) is
painful. This package attempts to reduce the pain with two new input
languages (one for humans, and XML ;-). The output is XML, or /sbin/tc
commands to configure the kernel.

- From the README:

tcng is a redesign of the Linux traffic control architecture. In the first
phase, the configuration language will be improved. In the second phase,
kernel components will be generated directly by configuration utilities.
Throughout all this, full compatibility with the existing traffic
control infrastructure will be maintained.

Bug#249394: ITP: liblip -- reliable interpolation of multivariate scattered data

2004-05-17 Thread Anibal Monsalve Salazar
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: liblip
  Version : 1.0
  Upstream Author : Gleb Beliakov <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.deakin.edu.au/~gleb/lip.html
* License : LGPL
Description : reliable interpolation of multivariate scattered data

Lip interpolates scattered multivariate data with a Lipschitz function.

Methods of interpolation of multivariate scattered data are scarce.
The programming library Lip implements a
new method by G. Beliakov, which relies on building reliable lower and
upper approximations of Lipschitz functions. If we assume that the
function that we want to interpolate is Lipschitz-continuous, we can
provide tight bounds on its values at any point, in the worse case
scenario. Thus we obtain the interpolant, which approximates the unknown
Lipschitz function f best in the worst case scenario. This translates
into reliable learning of f, something that other methods cannot do (the
error of approximation of most other methods can be infinitely large,
depending on what f generated the data).

Lipschitz condition implies that the rate of change of the function is
bounded:

Bug#214946: RFS for ITA: xmms-singit -- Display and edit lyrics with XMMS

2004-05-17 Thread Florian Ernst
Dear mentors,

wanna sing karaoke?

If so I'd be pleased to find someone to upload this package to the
archives and thus assist me in fixing some (11, sort of, that is)
bugs.

This is an RFS for an ITA[0], I have packaged the newest upstream and
I believe this packaging fixes all outstanding bugs[1] of this package
(and introduces one new, but upstream bug, as I think).

Here the specs:
Package name : xmms-singit

All files can be found at .
The build process was done in a uptodate sid-chroot and verified using
pbuilder and lintian.

Maintaining this package will add to my part[2] of giving back to the
community. I recently added myself to the NM-queue[3] to show my
commitment, and I'm certainly well aware that Debian means more than
just packaging...

However, there is one issue I'd like to raise and hopefully to get
some hints on: RPATH

This package (and this package alone) places some libraries in
/usr/lib/xmms/Visualization/xmms-singit and makes use of them,
relocating them in the process. According to Richard Atterer[4] it is
in this case acceptable to just leave them like this, so this is what
I did. I also added some overrides to make lintian happy.

If this shouldn't be done I could surely take the necessary
precautions as outlined in the appropriate DebianWiki entry[5], but so
far I'd personally prefer to leave it as is, since this is the least
complex way.

Any comments, please?

BTW, the one new bug introduced in my packaging work is the new SDL
visualisation plugins causing a segfault of XMMS whenever one tries to
configure them. They are perfectly useable, though, but their settings
cannot be changed.
I'd file a bug and mark it as upstream as soon as the package will be
uploaded.

Thanks for taking your time,
Cheers,
Flo

Description : interface for scientific computing in C++

The Template Numerical Toolkit (TNT) is a collection of interfaces and
reference implementations of numerical objects useful for scientific
computing in C++. The toolkit defines interfaces for basic data
structures, such as multidimensional arrays and sparse matrices,
commonly used in numerical applications. The goal of this package is to
provide reusable software components that address many of the portability
and maintenance problems with C++ codes.

Bug#249533: O: imwheel -- Program to support the "wheel" on most new mice

2004-05-17 Thread Amaya Rodrigo Sastre
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the imwheel package.

I am no longer using it or properly able to take care of it, mainly
because I don't use XFree 3.x.x anymore. I still find this package
important/useful for people running old or slow hardware, that's why I'm
orphaning it instead of removing it from the archive. It has a RC bug
that can posibly be downgraded. It should not be hard to fix, but I
don't have the hardware.

If anyone is interested, please drop me a line. If nobody adopts imwheel
in a month or so, I will request it's removal from the archive.

The package description is:
Most new mice, including the Microsoft IntelliMouse, and the Logitech
MouseMan+, Wheel Mouse, and others, now have a "wheel" button in the
middle of them. This wheel button acts both as a standard button (by
pressing it), and a wheel, which under MS Windows may be used for
 scrolling windows around.

This program supports the wheel scrolling operation by one of two
 means:
 1. Some newer X servers support mapping the wheel to buttons 4 and 5,
which imwheel then captures and supports,
 2. Using a patched version of gpm, the normal mouse events are passed
on to the X server through /dev/gpmdata (gpm's standard "repeater"
mode), and in addition wheel events are sent to another pipe,
/dev/gpmwheel. imwheel picks up these events, and translates them.
This is not currently supported or needed in Debian.

Bug#249546: ITP: libranlip -- generates random variates with multivariate Lipschitz density

2004-05-17 Thread Anibal Monsalve Salazar
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libranlip
  Version : 1.0
  Upstream Author : Gleb Beliakov <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.deakin.edu.au/~gleb/ranlip.html
* License : GPL
Description : generates random variates with multivariate Lipschitz
density

RanLip generates random variates with an arbitrary multivariate
Lipschitz density.

While generation of random numbers from a variety of distributions is
implemented in many packages (like GSL library
http://www.gnu.org/software/gsl/ and UNURAN library
http://statistik.wu-wien.ac.at/unuran/), generation of random variate
with an arbitrary distribution, especially in the multivariate case, is
a very challenging task. RanLip is a method of generation of random
variates with arbitrary Lipschitz-continuous densities, which works in
the univariate and multivariate cases, if the dimension is not very
large (say 3-10 variables).

Lipschitz condition implies that the rate of change of the function (in
this case, probability density p(x)) is bounded:

 |p(x)-p(y)|=p(x), using a number of values of p(x) at some
points. The more values we use, the better is the hat function. The
method of acceptance/rejection then works as follows: generatea random
variate X with density h(x); generate an independent uniform on (0,1)
random number Z; if p(X)<=Z h(X), then return X, otherwise repeat all
the above steps.

RanLip constructs a piecewise constant hat function of the required
density p(x) by subdividing the domain of p (an n-dimensional rectangle)
into many smaller rectangles, and computes the upper bound on p(x)
within each of these rectangles, and uses this upper bound as the value
of the hat function.

See http://www.deakin.edu.au/~gleb/ranlip.html for more information.
