Bug#249560: RFP: python-kde -- PyKDE is a set of Python bindings for the KDE desktop environment.

2004-05-18 Thread Rafal Zawadzki
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: python-kde
  Version : 3.11rc1
  Upstream Author : Jim Bublitz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.riverbankcomputing.co.uk/pykde/
* License : GPL
  Description : PyKDE is a set of Python bindings for the KDE desktop
environment.

  PyKDE makes nearly 700 KDE classes and over 10,000 associated methods
available to Python programmers. The bindings are implemented as a set of
Python modules: dcop, kdecore, kdesu, kdefx, kdeui, kio, kfile, kparts,
khtml, kjs, kspell and kdeprint. The modules correspond to libraries in
the kdelibs package. PyKDE supports nearly all classes and methods in
these libraries.

FWIW, a bug Michael mentioned is #134859, but it is for

Bug#249594: ITP: mercator -- terrain library for online multiplayer games

2004-05-18 Thread Michael Koch
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: mercator
  Version : 0.2.0
  Upstream Author : Alistair Riddoch <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.worldforge.org/
* License : GPL
  Description : terrain library for online multiplayer games

 Mercator is primarily aimed at terrain for multiplayer online games and
 forms one of the WorldForge (http://www.worldforge.org) core libraries.
 It is intended to be used as a terrain library on the client, while a
 subset of features are useful on the server.
 .
 Mercator is designed in such a way that individual tiles can be
 generated on-the-fly from a very small source data set. Each tile uses
 a fast deterministic random number generation to ensure that identical
 results are produced "anytime, anywhere". This enables transmission of
 terrain across low bandwidth links as part of the standard data stream,
 or server side collision detection with the same terrain that the
 player sees.
 .
 The use of tiles means that there is inherently a large degree of gross
 control of the shape of the terrain. Finer control is implemented by
 allowing geometric modifications - for example, a polygonal area might
 be flattened, or a crater could be applied.

Bug#236073: ITA: tkisem

2004-05-18 Thread Chris Anderson
tkisem itself doesn't require the binutils sparc since it can load
precompiled code. However, without those binutils it becomes useless unless
the user has access to a system that can compile for the sparc platform. So
it's a bit of a tradeoff.

2004-05-18 Thread Chris Anderson
My mistake, I couldn't remember if sparc-ld and sparc-as were actually needed
to build tkisem, it turns out they are. So the build-dep on binutils-sparc is
necessary.

JamVM is a new Java Virtual Machine which conforms to the JVM

VM's (free and commercial) it is extremely small, with a stripped
executable on PowerPC of only ~110K, and Intel 80K. However, unlike
other small VMs (e.g. KVM) it is designed to support the full
specification, and includes support for object finalisation, the

Hm, please use reportbug to file wnpp bugs, or read
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp on how to properly file wnpp bugs.

Anyway, how is this different from raidtools(2)? Is this better, more
mature, whatever? Or completely different?

The name is quite similar, so might cause confusion.

You fail to specify a website (I get 403 on
http://i2o.shadowconnect.com/raidutils/), and a short & long
description, you might want to post it here first. And also cc to
debian-devel, so more people can possibly comment on it.

MD5sum: 373157d38b1e8ee97b9ccbda45925ac9
Description: Verify electronic mail addresses.
 'vrfy' is a tool to verify e-mail addresses and mailing lists. In its
 simplest form it takes an address "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", figures out the MX hosts
 for "domain", and issues the SMTP command VRFY at the primary MX host
 (optionally all), or at "domain" itself if no MX hosts exist. Without
 "domain" it goes to "localhost".
 .
 More complex capabilities are:
  * recursively expanding forward files or mailing lists,
  * detecting mail forwarding loops,
  * understanding full-blown RFC822 address specifications,
  * syntax checking that can be carried out either locally or remotely,
  * various options provided to exploit alternative protocol suites
if necessary, and to print many forms of verbose output.
 .
 Obvious limitations exist (mostly due to a lousy VRFY command
 implementation on some hosts), but otherwise, it works pretty well.

  Description : OpenGL mahjongg game

Mahjongg 3D is a simple solitaire game. Your mission in this game is to
remove all tiles from the game board. A matching pair of tiles can be
removed, if they are 'free', which means that no other tiles block
them on the left or right side.

Since this so closely interacts with ytalk, I'd like to take this one
over (and at the same time, make some more time free for ytalk).

Since I'm otherwise a bit busy this and the next week, and I'd also need
a sponsor, don't expect an immediate upload. Also, this package
doesn't really require immediate care (zero bugs...).

Eh? Did you check whether something happened to that bug first? I
guessed you didn't / missed it, since you didn't mail me.

Note also that Henning Makholm showed interest in some of these
netkit packages, so it'd be polite to inform him too. Note that he has a
valid point that standard packages should be co-maintained if possible.

Anyway, since it seems we both are interested, I've erased the owner for
now. What is your motivation to want to adopt this package? Any specific
reasons? (I'm just trying to see who would be the best one to adopt this
one, and you didn't supply any additional information).

Sorry, not my fault. I did check but at that time your mail wasn't archived
yet and couldn't see it. The package is already adopted but don't worry, i'm
fine with you participating in it.

Indeed, he's on CC. Well, so are you interested in co-maintaining netkit-ntalk?
I see that you're still in NM. This shouldn't be a problem as I can sponsor
your work if you like.

My motivation, as usual, is having fun while helping Debian (I hope you don't
have any concerns with it =)). I'm also co-maintainer of inetutils, an
experimental package with similar funcionality, so I think to be quite
indicate for these packages in particular.

Bug#249768: RFP: harminv -- harmonic inversion - decomposing time-series into decaying sinusoids

2004-05-18 Thread Steven G. Johnson
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: harminv
  Version : 1.1
  Upstream Author : Steven G. Johnson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://ab-initio.mit.edu/harminv/
* License : GPL
  Description : harmonic inversion - decomposing time-series into decaying
sinusoids

Harminv is a free program and C library for harmonic inversion:
decomposing a time-series into a sum of sinusoids, including
exponentially decaying sinusoids. It is an implementation of the "filter
diagonalization method" (FDM) of Mandelshtam & Taylor, which maps the
harmonic inversion problem onto a small eigen-problem (size proportional
to the number of sinusoids). The FDM is often able to obtain much more
robust and accurate solutions than alternative methods, such as an FFT,
and this kind of analysis is applicable to many problems in science and
engineering.
