I am no longer using it or properly able to take care of it, mainly because I don't use XFree 3.x.x anymore. I still find this package important/useful for people running old or slow hardware, that's why I'm orphaning it instead of removing it from the archive. It has a RC bug that can posibly be downgraded. It should not be hard to fix, but I don't have the hardware. If anyone is interested, please drop me a line. If nobody adopts imwheel in a month or so, I will request it's removal from the archive. The package description is: Most new mice, including the Microsoft IntelliMouse, and the Logitech MouseMan+, Wheel Mouse, and others, now have a "wheel" button in the middle of them. This wheel button acts both as a standard button (by pressing it), and a wheel, which under MS Windows may be used for scrolling windows around. This program supports the wheel scrolling operation by one of two means:=20 1. Some newer X servers support mapping the wheel to buttons 4 and 5, which imwheel then captures and supports, 2. Using a patched version of gpm, the normal mouse events are passed on to the X server through /dev/gpmdata (gpm's standard "repeater" mode), and in addition wheel events are sent to another pipe, /dev/gpmwheel. imwheel picks up these events, and translates them. This is not currently supported or needed in Debian. =20 Author: Jonathan Atkins <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Homepage: http://jonatkins.org/imwheel/ -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.5-1-k7 Locale: LANG=3Den_US, LC_CTYPE=3Des_ES.ISO-8859-1 (ignored: LC_ALL set to= [EMAIL PROTECTED]) --=20 .''`. Hc-cron is based on the > > widely used vixie-cron and uses the same crontab format so that it > > can be used as a drop-in replacement for that program. fcron can do all of this, it is stable, it has been in Debian for some time now, and it has SE Linux support and a friendly upstream which likes Debian. Why do we need hc-cron? What sets it appart from fcron? Fcron uses its own binary format for the compiled crontabs, but the format for "fcrontabs" that is visible to the user is very much the same as vixie cron's with a few extensions. It lets any user have fcrontabs, much the way cron does. It has frequency-based, boot-or-at-a-certain time scheduling (and many other scheduling modes and capabilities), it can do load monitoring to start jobs in low-system-load slots, it has nice() support... and the list goes on and on. In fact, I bet fcron upstream would, should someone do most of the grunt work, be amicable to making sure fcron could work as a drop-in replacement for Debian cron (i.e. with all the Debian quirks). I didn't have the time when I was maintaining it, and I don't think Russell Corker does either... but who knows :) -- "One disk to rule them all, One disk to find them. For general applications programming, the preferred interface for infra-red control is `lirc', as lirc supports multiple programs sharing the same infra-red receiver. It does this by providing a socket based interface to which several programs can connect. . lirc uses libirman to interface with the Irman hardware, so in single use applications directly using libirman is simpler and uses less system resources. Currently, lirc only works on Linux systems, so programs written using libirman directly are more portable. . NOTE: This debian package is mainly provided so that Irman support can be enabled in lirc package and there is no libirman0 because upstream doesn't build a shared library. -- Martin Michlmayr [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#252101: ITP: gromacs -- [Biology] versatile package to perform molecular dynamics.
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: gromacs Version : 3.2.1 Upstream Author : David van der Spoel <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, Berk Hess <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, Erik Lindahl <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> * URL : http://www.gromacs.org/ * License : GPL Description : [Biology] versatile package to perform molecular dynamics GROMACS is a versatile package to perform molecular dynamics, i.e. simulate the Newtonian equations of motion for systems with hundreds to millions of particles. It is primarily designed for biochemical molecules like proteins and lipids that have a lot of complicated bonded interactions, but since GROMACS is extremely fast at calculating the nonbonded interactions (that usually dominate simulations) many groups are also using it for research on non-biological systems, e.g. polymers. GROMACS supports all the usual algorithms you expect from a modern molecular dynamics implementation, (check the online reference or manual for details), but there are also quite a few features that make it stand out from the competition: . GROMACS provides extremely high performance compared to all other programs. A lot of algorithmic optimizations have been introduced in the code; we have for instance extracted the calculation of the virial from the innermost loops over pairwise interactions, and we use our own software routines to calculate the inverse square root. The innermost loops are generated automatically in either C or Fortran at compile time, with optimizations adopted to your architecture. Assembly loops using SSE and 3DNow! multimedia instructions are provided for x86 processors, resulting in exceptional performance on inexpensive PC workstations. For Pentium IV processors there are even SSE2 double precision assembly loops, and on Power PC G4 and later processors we provide Altivec loops both for Linux and Mac OS X. Gromacs is normally 3-10 timesfaster than any other program; check the article in Journal of Molecular Modeling (reference can be found under resources) for a comparison benchmark. . GROMACS is user-friendly, with topologies and parameter files written in clear text format. There is a lot of consistency checking, and clear error messages are issued when something is wrong. Since the C preprocessor is used, you can have conditional parts in your topologies and include other files. You can even compress most files and GROMACS will automatically pipe them through gzip upon reading. . There is no scripting language - all programs use a simple interface with command line options for input and output files. You can always get help on the options by using the -h option, or use the extensive manuals provided free of charge in electronic or paper format. There is also an integrated graphical user interface available for all programs. . As the simulation is proceeding, GROMACS will continuously tell you how far it has come, and what time and date it expects to be finished. . Both run input files and trajectories are independent of hardware endian and can thus be read by any version GROMACS, even if it was compiled using a different floating-point precision. All files from GROMACS 2.0 can further be used in the new version 3! . GROMACS can write coordinates using lossy compression, which provides a very compact way of storing trajectory data. The accuracy can be selected by the user. . GROMACS comes with a large selection of flexible tools for trajectory analysis - you won't have to write any code to perform routine analyses. The output is further provided in the form of finished Xmgr/Grace graphs, with axis labels, legends, etc. already in place! . A basic trajectory viewer that only requires standard X libraries is included, and several external visualization tools can read the GROMACS file formats. . GROMACS can be run in parallel, using standard MPI communication. . GROMACS contains several state-of-the-art algorithms that make it possible to extend the time steps is simulations significantly, and thereby further enhance performance without sacrificing accuracy or detail. . The package includes a fully automated topology builder for proteins, even multimeric structures. Building blocks are available for the 20 standard aminoacid residues as well as some modified ones, the 4 nucleotide and 4 deoxinucleotide resides, several sugars and lipids, and some special groups like hemes and several small molecules. . Homepage: http://www.gromacs.org/ A first package is soon available under http://bioinformatics.pzr.uni-rostock.de/~moeller/debian/gromacs If one of the readers of debian-devel would fancy to sponsor this package then I'd very much appreciate it. Bug#223781: usemod-wiki adoption
Julian, As I haven't heard from you since February, and as I have still not received a response to my May 21st ping, I assume that you are no longer actively seeking to maintain usemod-wiki. As I have been requesting usemod-wiki ownership since January 14th, and have continued to follow-up on this bug, I assume that I stand next in line to proceed with adoption. If this is the case, Christoph has agreed to co-maintain the package with me. Benjamin, as the current package maintainer I was hoping that you could give us some direction on this, if any is needed. Unless replies by Julian or Benjamin indicate otherwise, Christoph and I would like to move forward with a new usemod-wiki package next week. thanks, Charles -Original Message- > From: Charles Fry <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Re: usemod-wiki adoption > Date: Mon, 31 May 2004 00:15:09 -0400 > To: Christoph Berg <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, Julian Mehnle <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > I don't want to steal anyone's ITP, but as there has been no activity > > on on #223781, I'd like to step forward and adopt usemod-wiki.
