Includes a sample mpg123-like script for playing Ogg Vorbis files. . Ogg Vorbis is a fully Open, non-proprietary, patent-and-royalty-free, general-purpose compressed audio format for high quality (44.1-48.0kHz, 16+ bit, polyphonic) audio and music at fixed and variable bitrates from 16 to 128 kbps/channel. This places Vorbis in the same class as audio representations including MPEG-1 audio layer 3, MPEG-4 audio (AAC and TwinVQ), and PAC. --- Received: (at 202328-done) by bugs.debian.org; 4 Jun 2004 00:07:41 + >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Jun 03 17:07:41 2004 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from mail.sorgfalt.net [217.160.169.191] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1BW2FJ-0006gF-00; Thu, 03 Jun 2004 17:07:41 -0700 Received: from pd9e39c73.dip.t-dialin.net ([217.227.156.115] helo=djpig.djpig.de) by mail.sorgfalt.net with asmtp (Cipher TLSv1:DES-CBC3-SHA:168) (Exim 3.35 (Sorgfalt)) id 1BW2FF-0008Kq-00 for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Fri, 04 Jun 2004 02:07:38 +0200 Received: from djpig by djpig.djpig.de with local (Exim 3.35 #1 (Debian)) id 1BW2F2-0008MF-00 for <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Fri, 04 Jun 2004 02:07:24 +0200 Date: Fri, 4 Jun 2004 02:07:24 +0200 From: Frank Lichtenheld <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Adopted Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.3.28i Sender: Frank Lichtenheld <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-3.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00 autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2004_03_25 X-Spam-Level: Gunnar Wolf has adopted this package for the Perl Group. Here is the proper announcement of my version. Bye, Mt. - Forwarded message from Martin Quinson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> - From: Martin Quinson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [NWS-dev] NWS 2.10.1 Date: Thu, 3 Jun 2004 11:12:03 -0700 Hi there, I just wanted to inform you that I finally upgraded my Debian packages to the current version (2.10.1). They are available from the following locations: http://graal.ens-lyon.fr/~mquinson/grid.html#nws deb http://graal.ens-lyon.fr/~mquinson/grid unstable deb-src http://graal.ens-lyon.fr/~mquinson/grid unstable Features over the regular version: - configuration using debconf (in 5 questions) - nws_setup: script to start, stop, test the NWS processes and activities on the local host, according to a nws.conf file specifying what to run. - nws_ctrl_activity : activity managing tool (start, stop, test) - new skill: CpuCount. Gives you the number of CPU on the target host. - all binaries name are prefixed with 'nws_' (namespace depolution) - improvement: activation of the ADAPT option to hybridCpu skill. Check my PhD thesis manuscript to see the (tremendous) improvements it gives on reactivity (speed of detection that a new task is running on the host). All the patches applied over the regular tarball are listed separately on the web page, and contain a small explanation about their action. The i386 and Alpha version are available, the powerpc one is a bit lagging since I've lost the use of my ppc compilation node (should be fixed within the day). Now that I catched up with Graziano's and Cie work, I'll try not to get distanced again in the future... I'm now looking how to get those packages into the main Debian archive. I guess it could be done within a month or so. I'll keep you informed about that, but please give those packages a try. I'd like to fix any issue with them before they arrive on the Debian servers and get a wider audience. Thanks, Mt. PS: This page also contains packages for the APST and the SimGrid, which licence is will soon be cleared. If you know a cool grid program which is not packaged yet, just let me know. Nope, neither Globus nor NetSolve belong to the "cool" category (they seem impossible to package properly for Debian) -- Learning and doing is the true spirit of free software -- learning without doing gets you academic sterility, and doing without learning is all too often the way things are done in proprietary software. -- Raph Levien - End forwarded message - -- La drogue était un milieu plutot sain avant que le sport ne s'en mêle. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#167891: Things look good
Hello, I'm pleased to report that the licence of the NWS is now a BSD-like one, which makes the upload of this package to main possible. Moreover, I just finished porting all my patches to the current version. I'm now looking for a sponsor. That would work. Note that if upstream likes the QPL, they would not need to give it up completely; they could choose to dual-license the work under the LGPL and the QPL, or under the GPL and the QPL, or under any other Free license and the QPL. See http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#GPLIncompatibleLibs for details on the exception, and modify it to work with the LGPL instead of the GPL. Again, this option would only let the package go into non-free. - Josh Triplett

Bug#251885: ITP: cgal -- C++ library for computational geometry
Hi, If the two licenses only applied to different libraries that linked to each other, they would be compatible, because the scope of the LGPL deliberately stops at the library boundary. However, the LGPL requires that all code which directly incorporates LGPLed code be LGPLed. [...] So any "work based on the library" must be licensed under the LGPL. Since the QPL is not compatible with the LGPL, the entire work is non-distributable. So what are the options for upstream? a) Relicense the code in a way that the work is redistributable, if possible DFSG-free. b) Split the library in (at least) two libraries, one (or more) for the LGPL code and one (or more) for the QPL code. (By "splitting", I mean creating two (or more) static/dynmaic libraries, not splitting the package itself.) c) What about clause 7 of the LGPL: > 7. You may place library facilities that are a work based on the > Library side-by-side in a single library together with other library > facilities not covered by this License, and distribute such a combined > library, provided that the separate distribution of the work based on > the Library and of the other library facilities is otherwise > permitted, and provided that you do these two things: > > a) Accompany the combined library with a copy of the same work > based on the Library, uncombined with any other library > facilities. This must be distributed under the terms of the > Sections above. > > b) Give prominent notice with the combined library of the fact > that part of it is a work based on the Library, and explaining > where to find the accompanying uncombined form of the same work. For clarification, as I understand it: "Library" = LGPL-part of the code "library" = the dynamic/static library (including QPL code) Would this be another option? Is there a piece of software that actually uses this clause? d) What about an exception with respect to clause 2c) of the LGPL? Something similar like the GPL-waiver for libssl? This would also be an option, right? Regards, Joachim

Bug#252387: ITP: pftp -- Fast file transfer program
Gosh, I hadn't noticed it. You shouldn't file an ITP for a package that is already in the archive. Also, the maintainer of the package has orphaned it (see bug #206119). The right way (TM) would have been to retitle that bug as an ITA (Intent to Adopt) and set its ownership to you. So please, do it and close this bug. If you don't know how to do all this stuff, it's high time you looked for it. http://bugs.debian.org should give you all the necessary information. -- Guilherme de S. How are you going to deal with him for issues like bugs if you don't know his name/e-mail? They're both on the main page of the website, and even if they weren't, it would be your obligation to find out. > * URL : http://www.pftp.de/ > * License : GPL > Description : Fast file transfer program > > This program transfers files from host to host > on command line (within your telnet sessions). > You may copy directories recursively, send/receive > stdin/stdout, use your own filters, accept specified > clients ... It is the fastest file transfer program > on the net! ;^) > Actually, packages' descriptions should contain only information useful for the user, that would lead him to installing the package or not. Not really softwares' advertisements. "Buy my product, it's the best". If you really believe it transfers files faster than other protocols, which doesn't make much sense for me btw, you should briefly explain why. Apart from that, I've taken a look at the website and felt like some useful information was missing here. Regards, -- Guilherme de S. Pastore (fatalerror) <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

However, instead of properly retitling the already-existing wnpp bug for this package, the submitter has simply opened a new one. :( Alex: Retitle #206119 to give it the same title as this bug, and merge them. The same applies to #183358 (the original RFP for gtk2edit) and #252385 (your newly opened, and therefore duplicate, ITP). See http://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-control for further details.
