Bug#255473: RFA: python-mysqldb -- A Python interface for MySQL
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I request an adopter for the python-mysqldb package. The package description is: MySQLdb is an Python interface to the MySQL database. It is compliant with the Python DB API 2.0, thread-safe and thread-friendly. . This module replaces the older MySQL module that was available as python-mysql. From my point of view, this package is encumbered by the license change of MySQL. I hesitate to link the package against the GPL libmysqlclient12 library from MySQL 4.0 without prior discussion, since this might bring users (perhaps even other packages) into license trouble. If somebody like to take over the package, he should show me that he's aware of the licensing issue of MySQL, and he should present me with a viable resolution (at the moment, I can only think of forking the package into python-mysqldb-lgpl and python-mysqldb-gpl).
