PyOpenGL 2 is a rewrite (using SWIG) of PyOpenGL 1.5 (which is available in

Description : An ncurses client for Music Player Daemon (MPD)

ncmpc provides the usual music player controls for controlling
an MPD process running either locally or remotely. It can edit the

Bayes-type filtering, which is a blocklist for IPs that are picked out
of spam received and classified as spam by well trained Bayesian
filters. The Bayesian-type filters also tell which mail is not
spam, and these friendly IPs are not blocked.

In other words:

- IPs to block are picked out of Bayes-filtered spam
- Hosts that send you and others non-spam are not blocked
- Hosts that repeatedly spam you and others are continually blocked
- Your mail server can selectively refuse service by IP address

Bug#267946: RFP: spambayes -- Bayesian spam classification system with Python

2004-08-25 Thread Jari Aalto
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: spambayes
  Version : 1.0
Upstream Author : Tim Stone [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.example.org/
* License : Python Software foundation
Description : Bayesian spam classification system with Python

The SpamBayes project is working on developing a Bayesian anti-spam
filter, initially based on the work of Paul Graham. The major
difference between this and other, similar projects is the emphasis on
testing newer approaches to scoring messages. While most anti-spam
projects are still working with the original graham algorithm, we
found that a number of alternate methods yielded a more useful
response. This is documented on the background page.

SpamBayes is not a single application. The core code is a message
classifier, however there are several applications available as part
of the SpamBayes project which use the classifier in specific
contexts. For the most part, the current crop of applications all
operate on the client side of things, however, a number of people have
experimented with using SpamBayes on mail servers to classify incoming
mail for multiple users. The table below outlines the main
applications which are part of the SpamBayes distribution.

Oops, I meant for this to go into the ITP:

I've had packages for this ready for a while, and I recently got mpd
uploaded into Debian via sponsor.

My sponsor for mpd is busy, so other sponsors are welcome.

Bug#247902: Acknowledgement (RFP: tlacontrib -- a collection of utilities for Tom Lord's Arch)

2004-08-25 Thread Eric Wong
Partially done packaging here, mainly to alleviate my need to have to
on all the machines I end up using.

This is focused on aba and bash-completion, but I also added
tla-full-changelog.

I'm not sure when I'll get around to properly documenting/testing all of
it, since it's a big package (feature-wise) and I can't use all of it.

These aren't suitable to upload into the Debian archive since I'm not a
real Debian Developer and Lintian/Linda/policy errors look bad when I
eventually apply for NM. But if anybody wants to pick up and comaintain
it, please do.

An Amstrad CPC emulator for X11. Although the source code is
downloadable, it's not free, but in the docs the author says that it can
be included in distributions, so I guess it'll go in non-free/x11.

Here's the package I did :

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Jungle Monkey (JM) is a distributed file transfer application. You join
channels where you others offer files for download. You can offer your
own files and create your own channels as well. Once you download a file,
others can connect to you to get that file. You can also search for files
and chat.

See www.junglemonkey.net. The version number is modestly low, but it is
quite useable and fairly stable.

I have been building and distributing deb's on my own for several months.
There are jm and jm-gnome .deb's. The necessary files are in the debian
and debian-gnome directories included with the source. The Makefile
includes rules for building the .debs. I would be happy to give a
maintainer write access to the CVS repository so they can use these files.

There may need to be -openssl variants too when some crypto stuff gets
integrated. I'm in the USA, so the -openssl variants may need to go into
non-us.

All the libraries JM depends on are in woody. GNet was recently added.
My debian files work with the GNet deb I packaged and not the official
woody GNet package. This should be fixed.

Thanks,
David

Eddie description taken from a doc found on the web site :
---
The Eddie team mission is to provide the tools which allow the
construction of mission critical internet sites providing a continual hig=
h
level of service focused upon the customer, attuned to the=20
needs of the service provider.=20

Eddie provides:
*The ability to create a truly distributed web server infrastructure.
Eddie supports web servers spread over multiple physical sites,
 spread over many continents.
*Enhanced web server throughput. Eddie provides sophisticated load
balancing capabilities allowing full access to the entire capacity o=
f
 a distributed web server.
 This in turn delivers:
 - Increased revenue for web servers supporting e-commerce applicatio=
ns.
 - Improved personnel productivity for web servers supporting work
   group applications.
*Performance optimisation. Eddie allows web administrators to dedicat=
e
optimised machines to particular tasks, thereby maximising the
potential throughput of their distributed web server.=20
*Long term scalability. Eddie provides a natural growth path for a
distributed web server, while continuing to give users quality of
 service.=20
*User quality of service. Eddie ensures that users accessing a web
site receive rapid response to each and every jump to a new link
within the site for their entire interaction.
*Reliability. Eddie allows automatic detection of failed units within
the distributed server and automatic takeover of functionality by
 active units.=20
*Flexibility. Eddie supports Solaris, Linux, FreeBSD and Windows NT,
and a range of third party web server software, including Apache.

WHAT CAN MARS_NWE DO?
=

Here is a very short list of what mars_nwe can do for you.

- mars_nwe is a very functional clone of a NetWare server that runs
under Linux. It works fine with the usual DOS client software that
normally comes with your NetWare server.

- mars_nwe offers file, bindery and print services for NetWare client
  software.

- mars_nwe does not include any user license restrictions. You can
increase mars_nwe's licenses by simply recompiling it, and you can
start any number of mars_nwe's on your network!

- mars_nwe includes a RIP/SAP daemon that turns your Linux box into a
  fine IPX router.

Licence: GPL.

I intend to package this software from cryptix.org. It's license seems to
be fine for Debian, but since it depends on a 1.3 virtual machine I suppose
it'll have to go into contrib.

From the Readme of wavnorm:

 wavnorm, nplay, nrecord :-

These are some simple but handy audio tools that I wrote to fill a need
where I couldn't find similar tools that would do the job. All programs are
presently limited to 16bit stereo wav files at 44100 Hz, as they are
intended for preparing music for making demo CDs and/or mp3 files.

The webpage of the upstream author is: http://www.zog.net.au/

I am in NM queue. I have communicated with the upstream maintainer, and have
got the Go-Ahead.

Also note that the package shouldn't be named pinepgp because there
was another package with this name in potato.

I've written some software that could use debianizing, and I'd like to
encourage some kind package maintainer out there to package it. It can be
 obtained from http://www.apia.dhs.org/software/macc/.

 Anyways, the story:

I hate mouse acceleration under linux, mostly because there pretty much is
none, and what is there is disgustingly linear and imprecise and not even
 worthy of the term 'acceleration'.

 So, I fixed it.

Through the wonders of mathemagic, my program (MAcc), reads in mouse data
in ps/2 or imps/2 format, accelerates it in a delightfully smooth and
precise non-linear fasion, and then spits it back out again to a fifo for
reading by (for example) an X server.

This allows you to both split pixels at low mouse velocities, and at the
same time lets you zip across even the largest screen without needing a
4-foot mousepad (It works great with trackballs too). Cool, huh? 8)

It's been tested to function on both PowerPC and ix86.

 Anyways...

Cheers - Tony 'Nicoya' Mantler :)

I have packaged kquick (and quick-dicts, see next ITP). The upstream is
eager to see it in debian as soon as possible. (-:

Its license is GPL. You can get it (and all dictionaries) at
URL:http://www.futureware.at/.

My apt repository is at:

deb http://asf.void.at/ debian/
deb-src http://asf.void.at/ debian/

From the control file:

KQuick is the KDE frontend for a single-click translation system,
called *Quick (or Futureware Translator). It is very similar to
products such as the Babylon translator; actually, it can use
Babylon's (older, unencrypted) dictionaries, among others,
 including:
 .
  * FOLDOC, the Free Online Dictionary for Computing
  * A postal code database for many countries.
  * A comprehensive acronym dictionary.
 .
KQuick has many nice features, for example:
  * Extremely high speed (takes about 5 seconds to search through a
100MB database on an unladen Pentium 100)
  * Integration into konqueror via KIOSlaves
  * Unicode-awareness

In addition to the ITP for kquick, I have packaged quick-dicts, a subset
of the dictionaries that are available at
URL:http://www.futureware.at/. The upstream is distributing non-free
dictionaries together with the free ones; this package contains the
provably free ones.

I will need some help with the build process (currently, it is amazingly
slow), so look out for messages in debian-mentors concerning this
package.

My apt repository is at:

deb http://asf.void.at/ debian/
deb-src http://asf.void.at/ debian/

The control file will say:

This package contains free dictionaries, for use with translators
like KQuick. Its contents are just a small subset of the dictionaries
 available for KQuick at:
 .
 http://www.futureware.at/
 .
The dictionaries that are present are:
 .
 * The Freedict project's data files for many languages
 * Postal codes of Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the USA
 * a specially-formatted Jargon File
 * a specially-formatted Foldoc

=46rom the readme:
xalarm is an interactive alarm clock analogous to a combination of
leave(1) and calendar(1), only much more powerful.

You can set the alarm either by command line options, or by entering the
time using the popup window. The time and date formats are quite flexible
and natural. At the appropriate time, xalarm pops up a window to tell you
that your time is up. You can tell xalarm to pop up warning windows at
specified times before the alarm is to trigger in order to warn you of the
  impending alarm.

Guardian watches the output from Snort, a lightweight intrustion

Hi folks,

It would be very nice if somebody could add a package for xrsh to
Debian.

Xrsh can be used to start XWindow applications on remote machines.
The most important advantages over xon are:

xrsh is more clever in setting $DISPLAY
'xrsh -debug' works
better support of X authorization

The home page for xrsh is http://jjd.com/ . Copyright information

I Intend To Package hoverball and hoverware

Upstream site: http://sourceforge.net/projects/hoverball/
License: GPL
Descriptions:

hoverball - 3D multiplayer realtime team hovercraft football(soccer) game in
which the players fly hovercraft and attempt to hit a large ball into the
other teams goal. There will be both client and server packages. Can be used
with Mesa but needs hardware accelerated OpenGL support to enable all the
graphics features.

hoverware - 3D graphics middleware layer built on OpenGL. This package will
probably have a runtime deb and a development deb.

The source has only recently been ported to Linux and has a few issues that
need to be resolved before it can go into Debian. I will work with upstream to
get these issues fixed before attempting to package.

Thanks,

I plan to make debian package of Multiseti.
MultiSeti is [EMAIL PROTECTED] utility for multiple [EMAIL PROTECTED] work
units.
With MultiSeti you can download multiple work units and work
on each one after another. It helps a lot when you are on vacation and
you have dial up connection to the internet and you want to
analyze [EMAIL PROTECTED] work units.
It is released under GPL and it can be downloaded from:
http://cvs.linux.hr/multiseti/

Take care,

This bundle contains software for configuration, extracting fee data and
CTI applications of an Euracom ISDN PABX. (Compatibles like Quante Maxima
or Bosch Integral are supported as well.)

in particular, these programs are included:
(Names and short descriptions are unchanged from the home page, so they
 are partially German...)

Timm- Telephone Integration Main Module
the network server, runs on a machine with serial port connected to the
  PABX

Sarah - Server Access and Remote Administration Helper
shows connections to Timm, allows simple admin tasks

Gabi- Gebuehren Auswertungs Basis Interface
reads connection/fee data from the PABX

RiKe - Rufnummern Integration und Kurzwahl Export (KDE-Version)
editor for integrated phonebook of the PABX (for KDE)

Rike - Rufnummern Integration und Kurzwahl Export (zeilenorientiert)
  command line version of RiKe

Lion - Line Interface On Network
  computer aided dial tool

Alina - Automatic Line Interface Network Application
  shows PABX and port status

Kim - Konfigurations- und InformationsModul
tool for dumping data from the PABX (for scripting use)

Tino - Telephon Integration - Number Optimizer
  least cost routing configurator

Rolf - Relais OnLine Functions
little tool to switch integrated relais on/off

Elisa - ETSI/Linklevel/Isdn/S0-Bus-Analyzer
(just needed for ISDN hacking ;)

SetMaxSpeed - Setzt die Portgeschwindigkeit der Anlage
tool to set serial port speed on the PABX

Details about the packege can be found on its home page:
http://www.ganzfix.de/euramax.html (sorry, in German only)

License: GPL/LGPL/unknown, depending on what part of the source you look
at. Will be cleared before packaging.

The code looks old, but very useful (for those who own such a PABX ;)

Oki DZ [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote on debian-user:
I think many of us would like to have emlog
(http://www.circlemud.org/~jelson/software/emlog/) in a .deb file.

The web page says:

emlog is a Linux kernel module that makes it easy to access the most
recent (and only the most recent) output from a process. It works just
like tail -f on a log file, except that the storage required never
grows. This can be useful in embedded systems where there isn't enough
memory or disk space for keeping complete log files, but the most
recent debugging messages are sometimes needed (e.g., after an error
   is observed).

The emlog kernel module implements simple character device driver. The
driver acts like a named pipe that has a finite, circular buffer. The
size of the buffer is easily configurable. As more data is written
into the buffer, the oldest data is discarded. A process that reads
from an emlog device will first read the existing buffer, then see new
text as it's written, similar to monitoring a log file using tail
   -f.

Version 0.30 of emlog (released March 1, 2001) should work under just
about any Linux kernel in the 2.x series, including 2.4.

emlog is free software, distributed under the GNU General Public
License (GPL); see the file COPYING (in the distribution) for details.

Cheers,

Bug#267990: ITP: etpan -- mail client based on libEtPan!

2004-08-25 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: etpan
  Version : 0.4
Upstream Author : DINH Viet Hoa [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://libetpan.sourceforge.net/etpan/
* License : BSD
Description : console mail user agent based on libEtPan!

 Features:
  * IMAP4rev1 / POP3 / NNTP / mbox / mh / maildir
  * virtual folder tree
  * multiple folder views and message views
  * smart multi-threading
  * PGP signing and encryption (using GnuPG as external command)
  * S/MIME signing and encryption (using OpenSSL as external command)
  * SPAM process (using bogofilter as external command)
  * user interface for configuration edition

Yes, the long description needs to be better written. I am though still
waiting for the upload of #250660 (libetpan), so have still some time. I
am currently working on/with a homebrewn libetpan, because there is no
liblockfile support in it yet.

If people are really interested I could give xetpan a look, too. Though
my main effort now is to get etpan working without having to make it
sgid mail.

 So long,

Diff is line-based whereas xmldiff manipulates XML constructs such as
elements attributes, text nodes. For instance, in XML changing the order
of the attributes of an element is not meaningful. xmldiff has an option
to ignore whitespace which makes it possible to compare a pretty printed
XML document with a 1 line document containing the same elements.
Finally xmldiff can produce XUptate instructions to display the
differences which allows an XUpdate aware program to patch the original
document.

If all you XML documents are normalized and pretty printed, using diff
will probably be more efficient than xmldiff.

See http://www.logilab.org/projects/xmldiff/documentation for example
output.

diff operates at the text level. It knows nothing about the syntax.

xmldiff operates at the XML tree level. It displays only significant

Here, two files are identical, XML-speaking:

Here, they are really different.

Bug#262885: Help for parted debian package

2004-08-25 Thread Fabio Tranchitella
Hi, even if I'm not an official DD (I'm actually in the New Debian
Maintainer process) I'd like to help you for maintaining parted.
I'm also planning to develop a python gtk-based interface (like
qparted) for gnome, so I think helping in maintaining parted can
be very interesting for me.

Thanks,

Bug#126037: a few problems in the packages

2004-08-25 Thread Alexandre
I've looked at the packages, and saw a few problems:

 * missing build dependency on python (this stops dh_python which uses
/usr/bin/python
 * missing build-dependency on g77 for python-scipy
 * some binary arch-indep packages have an architecture field in
debian/control set to any instead of all (python-scipy,
python-scipy-core)
 * doesn't the weave module in scipy-core require a C++ compiler? If so,
there should be at least a Recommends on g++ for this package

Finally, I would set the Section of all the packages to python instead
of devel which means that the packages will show up next to
python-numeric in aptitude.

While you are at it, could you close the ITP on scipy (#218523) in the
changelog?

Cheers,

Oops. Strange, I filled that out, double-checked the debian/copyright
file, changed the URL on the copyright file on my Arch repo, but forgot
to go back to that field. I changed that in the control file a while ago
but forgot about the copyright.

Awesome. The copyright URL was fixed in Arch, let me know if you find
anything else wrong with it or room for improvement and I'll get
0.11.0-2 ready.
