Bug#271040: ITP: nethogs -- small 'net top' tool that groups bandwidth by process

2004-09-11 Thread Frederik Dannemare

Hash: SHA1

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Package name: nethogs
Version: 0.5.1
Upstream Author: Arnout Engelen
URL: http://nethogs.sourceforge.net/
License: GPL
Description: small 'net top' tool that groups bandwidth by process

NetHogs is a small 'net top' tool. Instead of breaking the traffic down
per protocol or per subnet, like most tools do, it groups bandwidth by
process. NetHogs does not rely on a special kernel module to be loaded.
If there's suddenly a lot of network traffic, you can fire up NetHogs
and immediately see which PID is causing this. This makes it easy to
indentify programs that have gone wild and are suddenly taking up your
bandwidth.

The package is currently not in Sarge due to a RC bug, which will need to be
resolved before it might be able to re-enter sarge (iff you're on time, which
is doubtful).

 organizations or communities to run a private "mp3.com-like" Web site to
 access the music they legitimately own, distribute or are granted access to.
 .
 It supports most audio players, language packs (English, French, Catalan,
 German, Spanish), optional file downloads, media protection schemes,
 multi-level security, shared and private playlists, random playlists, images,
 etc. Also features an unusual, easy-to-use installer module to get you
 started in minutes (once you have php and a db). See the feature list below
 and documentation to the right for more information.

  Yes, but they are outdated. You can find them in the samba-doc package.

> Isn't it a better idea to build a binary package samba-ldaptools from
> the samba package?

  I believe is better to have an independent package, mainly because there are
  two different upstream sources (they are not in sync) and generating it from
  the samba source adds complexity to an already complex package.

  Anyway, if somebody thinks I'm wrong please tell me.

  Greetings,

Sergio.

Just close it, as I have done with this message.

By the way, if you want to prevent this problem then don't needlessly
include "Package:" lines when you're replying to bugs, and [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#261989: First try: please, comment

2004-09-11 Thread Luk Claes

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi Eduard

Attached is my first try to the gettextization of module-assistant. I
have not tested it as I haven't found the time to translate it and I
don't know how to use it (I haven't bothered, shame on me ;-)).

Any hints or comments are welcome.

Cheers

Luk

Bug#271166: ITP: fityk -- general-purpose nonlinear curve fitting and data analysis

2004-09-11 Thread Carlo Segre
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: fityk
  Version : 0.4.2
  Upstream Author : Marcin Wojdyr <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.unipress.waw.pl/soft/crystallography/fityk/
* License : GPL
  Description : general-purpose nonlinear curve fitting and data analysis

 Fityk is a flexible and portable program for nonlinear fitting of analytical
 functions (especially peak-shaped) to data (usually experimental data). In
 other words, for nonlinear peak separation and analysis.

 It was developed for analyzing diffraction patterns, but can be also used in
 other fields, since concepts and operations specific for crystallography are
 separated from the rest of the program.

 Fityk offers various nonlinear fitting methods, subtracting background,
 calibrating data, easy placement of peaks and changing peak parameters,
 automation of common tasks with scripts, and much more. The main advantage
 of the program is flexibility - parameters of peaks can be arbitrarily
 bound to each other, eg. the width of a peak can be an independent
 variable, can be the same as the width of another peak or can be given
 by a complicated - common to all peaks - formula.

Bug#270845: ITP: pperl -- Make Perl scripts persistent in memory

2004-09-11 Thread Florian Weimer
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: pperl
  Version : 0.25
  Upstream Author : Matt Sergeant <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/~msergeant/PPerl-0.25/
* License : Artistic/GPL (Perl)
  Description : Make Perl scripts persistent in memory

 This program turns ordinary Perl scripts into long running daemons,
 making subsequent executions extremely fast. It forks several
 processes for each script, allowing many processes to call the script
 at once.

(Package will be slightly patched to address the security issues present
in the upstream version.)

Bug#271186: RFP: gtray -- gmail new mail checker tray app

2004-09-11 Thread Adriaan Peeters
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: gtray
  Version : 1.1
  Upstream Author : Simon Howard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://fraggle.alkali.org/projects/gtray/
* License : GPL
  Description : gmail new mail checker tray app

This is a small notification area app to check the status of your GMail
account and display if you have any new email. It is inspired by Elias
Torres' GTray program for windows.

This uses the GNOME libraries but it uses the freedesktop.org standard
for tray apps, so it ought to work fine in KDE and other desktops.

It is written in Ruby and uses the Ruby GNOME2 bindings.

All dependencies are available in Debian testing/unstable. I might
package it later, but no time atm.

Bug#271166: ITP: fityk -- general-purpose nonlinear curve fitting and data analysis

2004-09-11 Thread Carlo U. Segre

The program as it stands has a GUI (using wxwindows) and a command line
interface which uses gnuplot for graphical output. I have not tried to
see what happens if the command line interface is used without
installation of gnuplot. At this point I am intending to provide both the
GUI and the command line programs in the same package and have a
Recommends for gnuplot (probably should be a Depends) and a depends on
wxwindows and X.

I think that I might eventually use this package. Question: how few
dependencies do you think you can package it with? Can you package a
useful core of it without X? Without Perl? Without other complex or
extensive dependencies?

Due to time changing time commitments in the short to medium term, i
dont expect to do much work on gnunet on libextractor.

It could do with some attention, with a bit of work it could be compiled
against libgcrypt7 instead of its internal crypto which would be an
improvment.

* Package name: apt-gentoo
  Version : 0.0.1
* URL : http://www-jcsu.jesus.cam.ac.uk/~mma29/apt-gentoo/
* License : GPL version 2 or above
  Description : enhanced package installation

 apt-gentoo enhances the Debian package installation experience to make
 it fully competitive with newly-popular source-based distributions.

 As packages are installed, apt-gentoo automatically downloads their
 build logs from the buildd network. The logs are then slowly scrolled
 past on the user's terminal to simulate building the software on the
 local machine.

 apt-gentoo optionally, and by default, gives increased realism by
 spinning the CPU in a tight loop between build log lines, and writing
 large files to disk.

 An additional utility apt-gentoo-benchmark is included to tune the
 delay loops for your hardware by finding the length of time taken by
 typical compiler and linker runs. (On slow or low-memory hardware we
 recommend leaving these values at their defaults.)

 A preliminary package of apt-gentoo is available at
 http://www-jcsu.jesus.cam.ac.uk/~mma29/apt-gentoo/

retitle 249230 ITA: asmon -- A system resource monitor dockapp for Afterstep
and WindowMaker
owner 249230 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
thanks

I use asmon and would be happy to take over maintenance of it.

I have a patch to add support for kernel 2.6 and will be putting
together an updated package shortly.

  Upstream Author : Larry Ewing

  Description : Digital photo management application

 f-spot is written in C#/GTK#, and is meant to be an easy-to-use photo
 management application. It allows for importing of your existing
 photo collections, tagging photos with identifiers, as well as doing
 simple edits of photos (e.g. rotating). f-spot was originally
 written by the late Ettore Perazzoli. After his passing,
 maintainership was picked up by Larry Ewing.

I'm currently building a package for f-spot. Once it is lintian and
linda clean, I will seek a sponsor on debian-mentors. The upstream
release says it is not yet ready for end user consumption, but I
believe there may be interest for early adopters to find the package
in unstable.

  Description : A simple wrapper around Apache::Session

This module is a simple wrapper around Apache::Session which provides some
methods to simplify getting and setting the session id.

It can uses cookies to store the session id, or it can look in a provided
object for a specific parameter. Alternately, you can simply provide the
session id yourself in the call to the session() method.

Note: I just simply need this module to upload new version of
MasonX::Request::WithApacheSession / libmasonx-request-withapachesession-perl
