This is true, see http://bugs.debian.org/270695 for a log of what
happened. The reason is that the (previous) maintainer doesn't have the
time to maintain this package.

Since Debian is a volonteer organisation, and nobody has stepped up yet
to reintroduce it, you can do one of the following things if you want it
back:

1) File a Request For Package (RFP), and hope that someone will solve
the issues with the last package and reintroduce it in Debian
   See http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp
2) Reintroduce the package yourself (you'll need to read a lot of
documentation before you can do so, it requires quite some work).
3) If you don't want to do that, you can pay sommeone, possibly someone
already active in Debian, to do #2 for you

I think debian-devel@lists.debian.org is the best audience for your
question, I've cc'ed that list.

This is very good news. I was planning to start the process to hijack
the sourceforge project because we got no reply to the mails sent to
your addresses listed there and in the project source files. I'm glad
I tried google to find your latest address first. :)

There are two of us interested in maintaining this package in debian,
Michael Potter and me. Would you be intersted in sharing the CVS with
us, so we could maintain the package together using sourceforge?

I found patches in the SuSe package to get gutenbrowser version
0.6.8.3 to compile and run with Qt 3. Do you want these?

I also have a few minor patches to avoid a crash when running with an
empty list of books and to initialize a variable to keep valgrind
quiet. Do you want these as well?

I'm going to upload a version right now to get the package into the
NEW queue. This will close this bug, so I guess we should drop
[EMAIL PROTECTED] from future discussions.

Is there still need for a new maintainer for this package ?

I'm looking for a small package to start, so tell me if this package

Thanks,

Well, it seems it isn't, the homepage quoted in the debian/copyright
file is now giving à 404 error : http://www.inxpress.net/~tomh

I cannot find any fda official webpage with Google...

What should we do then ? Is it still pertinent to maintain such a

Severity: wishlist

* Package name: octaviz
  Version : 0.4.0
  Upstream Author : Dragan Tubic <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Description : 3D visualization system for Octave

Octaviz is a visualization system for Octave. It is a wrapper that
makes all VTK classes accessible from within Octave using the same
object-oriented syntax as in C++ or Python. Octaviz also provides
high-level functions for 2D and 3D visualization. Using those
functions, most common visualization tasks (3D surface plots, contour
plots etc) can be accomplished without any knowledge about VTK.

The exprimental package (intended for the Debian experimental distribution)
is available at http://people.debian.org/~rafael/octaviz/

It seems nobody has adopted this package yet. I don't know how much
time the package needs since I wasn't the original maintainer. Your
best bet would be to start looking for the upstream source code to see
if this application is actually still being developed.

Bug#279367: RFA: cplay -- A front-end for various audio players

2004-11-02 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: wnpp

I'm looking for a new maintainer or maintainers for the cplay package.
cplay is a front-end for various audio players written in Python. The
package itself is in a fairly good shape but the main problem is that
upstream development has basically been stagnant for years. The new
maintainer has to be proficient in Python and must be willing to put
in work into upstream maintenance. The upstream TODO list is long and
hasn't changed very much over the last years - just like the
application itself.

cplay basically does what it's supposed to do, but there are many
areas where it could improve and also some area where it simply
doesn't meet today's demands of audio players anymore; for example, it
doesn't do UTF-8. It converts UTF-8 strings from OGG ID tags
internally to ASCII (ISO Latin1) because various functions don't cope
with UTF-8. Someone will need to fix this, as well as some other
things.

There is also disagreement between upstream and me about how to handle
a potential security issue related to /tmp handling (see #255768).
I've introduced a patch in the Debian package which was not and won't
be applied upstream. While it fixes the issues, it raises some other
minor problems... the new maintainer will have to work with upstream
to find a solution acceptable for both upstream and Debian.

There are a couple of bugs open, mostly feature requests. The biggest
problem at the moment is the lack of UTF-8 support. However, as mentioned
above, the new maintainer must be interested in putting in real development
time over longer periods and not just to fix this particular problem.

If you're interested, please get in contact (mail the bug report and
me) so we can discuss this. I still use cplay because of lack of
another simple text-based alternative. There's a program very similar
to cplay as part of the http://www.musicpd.org/ effort (ncmpc), but
the major problem of that is that it's based on a client-server system
so you cannot easily play local files.

Information about the package:

Package: cplay
Priority: optional
Section: sound
Installed-Size: 232
Maintainer: Martin Michlmayr <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Architecture: all
Version: 1.49-6
Depends: python
Recommends: vorbis-tools, python-pyvorbis
Suggests: mpg321 | madplay | splay | mpg123, speex, mikmod, xmp, sox,
python-id3 (>= 1.2-1)
Conflicts: madplay (<< 0.15)
Filename: pool/main/c/cplay/cplay_1.49-6_all.deb
Size: 40328
MD5sum: 500520735ae3906fae500589f71a0be3
Description: A front-end for various audio players
cplay provides a user-friendly interface to play various types of
sound files. It offers a simple file list with which you can
navigate around looking for audio files and a playlist to which
you can add the files you want to play. cplay can play the songs
in your playlist in repeat or random mode, and offers the option
 to store the playlist.
 .
Currently, the following audio formats are supported: MP3 (through
madplay, mpg321 or splay), Ogg Vorbis (through ogg123), MOD and
other module formats (through mikmod or xmp), WAV (through sox) and
 Speex (through speex).

The upstream location is http://www.tf.hut.fi/~flu/cplay/

Daniel, I'm just going through the list of orphaned packages which

know there was a long discussion about whether noteedit should ship

I just asked Google :), and it looks like some people have picked up
noteedit and say they're going to take over upstreem development. On the
other hand, the SVN repository was created 6 weeks ago, the most recent code
checkin seems to be from 5 weeks ago, and that was apparently to fix the fact
that it doesn't compile with g++-3.4. The mailing lists also seem to be
quiet. So I won't hold my breath waiting for future developments on that
front.

http://developer.berlios.de/projects/noteedit

I don't want the package back, regardless. I've already almost got more
packages than I can properly take care of at the moment, and I don't think I
should take on any more work right now. :(

Bug#274281: O: volume.app -- A dockapp enabling esay control of the volume level

2004-11-02 Thread Gürkan Sengün
Hello Martin

> Gurkan, is this package still maintained upstream? If not, I intend

the latest release dates quite some time back. but the homepage still works,
i assume the e-mail works too but didn't check it if the smtp host knows
the user still and didn't bother to ping upstream by mail. i've just
tried the software it works. it has "nothing"[1] to do with GNUstep, it's just
a dockapp. i prefer the wmmixer one over this one, but that's taste.
i don't intend to take over this one. but i'll cc: this msg to the
gnustep packager ml, maybe someone else wants to, i suggest removing
the .app from the package name (to avoid confusion).

according to popcon there's 30+ users..

I am upstream/deb maintainer for the volumemanager.app (which is known
to work well on OSS - since i never got ALSA working, i don't have support for
it though). i didn't look into the source of volume.app, fine for me to have
it removed.

Yours,
Gürkan

[1] as in it doesn't use the framework programmatically, but the look
is consistent (being a dockapp) with GNUstep/Window Maker

Bug#244768: Please remove lprngtool

2004-11-02 Thread Andrew Pollock
reassign 244768 ftp.debian.org
retitle 244768 Please remove lprngtool
thanks

Hi ftpmaster, debian-release,

I've had lprngtool up for grabs in WNPP for some months with no interest.
I've pinged all the people with open bugs, and those that replied all said
they could live with it being removed completely.

Basically, upstream is kaput. He seems to have been hit by a case of real
life or something, so LPRng in general is not a happening thing these days.

Release Management: lprngtool depends on ifhp, which is currently maintained
by the QA team, and also from the same stable as lprngtool. It may also be
worthwhile getting rid of it while we're at it. I'll have a chat to the QA
team and see what they say, and if that's the general vibe, file another bug
against ftp.debian.org for its removal as well.

regards

Andrew
